Diltiazem and weight gain

Common Questions and Answers about Diltiazem and weight gain

tiazac

Avatar f tn Did the doctor mention why he wanted to raise your Diltiazem? I never lost weight with that med (I have the generic as well) but I did have dizziness and nasty headaches the first 2 weeks. I was too dizzy to drive. It got better of course and except for fatigue and some brain fog, I was back to normal. I'm not sure why you're losing the weight. Wish it worked that way for me. :-) Perhaps your thyroid is off for some reason. They can check that with a simple blood test.
Avatar n tn I am currently on 30 mg of diltiazem 3x day and i was wondering how effective is this dose at bring down your blood pressure. and how much would it bring it down. a rough estimate would be great. for i am hoping to come off of this medicine.
Avatar f tn The first in two years landed me in the Hospital. My meds were changed from Metoprolol to Diltiazem 360 mg per day and Fleconade 50 mg 2x per day plus Warfarin. The Metoprolol 25mcg 1 x daily has been making me wheeze for the past four years, but no one ever thought to change the meds. I have been on this new med protocol for 1.5 weeks. I just started the Fleconide and Warfarin three days ago. My question is I need to loose 45 pounds asap.
Avatar n tn It really depends on what you need. If this has been prescribed for you, and you are uncertain about it, then you can always ask your doctor for more clarification. It really just all depends on your individual circumstances.
Avatar m tn I am working on lowering my cholesterol and losing some weight. Is there anything else I could be doing to slow the progression of my condition? I'm currently taking Diltiazem once a day.
Avatar n tn I am on atenolol and paxil for anxiety attacks.. Wondering if anyone else has had weight gain with there meds they are taking.. I cannot seem to lose weight and I think I am getting even heavier. Please help... So tired of feeling crappy..
Avatar m tn I have suffered with taking diltiazem(180 mg ER) AND metoprolol (50 mg ER) for atril fibrillation for the past two and a half years. The side effects have been debilitating.. Both drugs have the same side effects and together and one or the other or both create what I can only describe as chaotic turbulence in my chest and pain in my left arm when the second drug kicks in.. My cardiolgist now wants me to add a blood thinner (xarelto) to my meds menu.
Avatar m tn Not all of us respond the same to the same medications. The indapamide worked better for you than the dilitazem so it only makes sense to stay w/the indapamide and forego the diltiazem since your doctor obviously didn't consider the indapamide and diltiazem a good combinantion. I understand about uninsured doctor visits. We lost our family doctor of some 30 years and got a rude shock when we started doctor shopping!!! From a standard $35 office call to a $150 initial office call!!!!!
1622431 tn?1299070442 I've taken Diltiazem and it works quite well. I have PAC's, PVC's and PSVT (a type of atrial tachy). Years ago they gave me Verapamil (similar to Diltiazem) and it did not agree with me at all. I can't take beta blockers because I have asthma. But the Diltiazem helped with the chest pain, slowed down my heart rate and lower my BP a bit, helped with my Raynauds (where my blood vessels spasm and my hands and feet turn a yucky blue/gray color).
605603 tn?1231784384 While resting my heart sometimes speeds up to around 90 to 100 beats a min. My face, neck and shoulder on my left hand side tingle and because of this and the feeling of the PVC I freak out! I have chest pains and I bloat in my wrist and fingers. I know this because I have to take my watch off and do not wear any rings for this reason. When I tell my DR about this they say nothing!! They act like I am nuts.My DR has put me on alprazolam .25mg for nervousness.
1375932 tn?1279301132 Lipids are good overall, but HDL could be higher and 1000 Slo-Niacin has not pushed down LP(a). Possibly adding Diltiazem and have recently read about Eplenerone which I understand suppresses cortisol/physiological stress response. I have breakthrough pain almost daily, particularly with emotion - I have always had an exaggerated physical stress response. Have been resistant to taking SSRIs as vaso-constriction is a potential side effect.
Avatar f tn I have been taking metoprolol and diltiazem for sixteen months and initially the medications brought the SVTs under control. Fourteen months ago I started coughing blood and experiencing chest congestion. This took my attention off any heart issues and sent me on a long search for the cause of the bleeding. After many tests and visits with various specialists I never did get the answer. The bleeding resolved itself after 10 months (last October) and has not reappeared.
Avatar n tn Then (like you) I went on to diltiazem for 3 days. While on this, I had some insomnia and almost felt like I was having a stroke at one point. I had facial flushing and weird body sensations. Came off that one. Now I'm on atenolol (25 mg) and it puts me to SLEEP very easily. It's so funny that some people like you experience insomnia whereas I can barely keep my eyes awake. I take atenolol b/c of tachycardia moreso than high BP but I do have prehypertension.
1033596 tn?1252519593 I don't want to play doctor here or anything, but I was in a similar situation for several years. My apartment got broken into, then I moved home, and then my house literally got hit by lightening. I started taking lexapro for the Post-Traumatic Stress. I'd always been a bit of a snacker and stress-eater, but I a burdensome amount of weight from it. I asked my doctor about other alternatives to the Lexapro, and she suggested Welbutrin.
Avatar f tn When I was taking Prozac I didnt gain weight.Paxcel made me gain some though.
Avatar f tn How long did it take people to gain weight, if any on Methimazole. I want to gain weight and nothing has happened. I've been on it for about a month now.
Avatar f tn I had a sudden onset of edema and weight gain from my waist to my feet. I also had a sudden onset of night sweats. I have no shortness of breath. I had a normal echocardiogram. Lasik brought the swelling down some but I am still swelling. I am type 1 diabetic, hypertensive, and stage 3 kidney disease. Since I have no shortness of breath and a normal echocardiogram is this likely to be some sort of heart disease?
Avatar f tn This is the time in your life more than ever that you should be eating healthy and exercising regularly. Expect to gain weight ; that is healthy and necessary for most women, but if the gain happens too quickly you MUST Work with your OB to ensure that you are as healthy as possible. I would really listen to Alaysha's advice personally.. She's a model and one of the most stunning pregnant women I've ever seen, so I'd follow her rules for healthy weight gain personally lol.
Avatar m tn I have taken quite a bit of different antibiotics back in May. I have stopped taking it a about 3 weeks ago, maybe longer and noticed that I have a hard time gaining weight now. I have had bad anxiety and depression as well recently which may have caused my appetite to go down drastically but when it comes back I start to eat a lot and it doesn't seem like I can gain weight like I used too.
Avatar n tn Keep in mind you could gain weight on Zoloft or any ssri, and your weight gain on Paxil has been minimal -- I gained 50 pounds over several years on it. And be careful going off it, it can be difficult. Do it slowly and carefully.
Avatar f tn SSRIs are notorious for weight gain, but Prozac has less of a weight gain potential (compared to say Paxil). Your weight gain may be natural - over the course of 20 years. Or it may be the result of the Prozac. But 2-3 pounds per year to gain from an SSRI is not very much. I was on Lexapro for 2-3 years and gained nearly 40 pounds in that time.
Avatar f tn It does make sense to take Abilify during the day if its keeping a person awake at night as it can be activating. If not it won't make a difference as regards weight gain. Abilify is the least likely out of the antipsychotics to cause weight gain. I have posted about the antipsychotics in development that won't do this but they still are not approved medications yet. If you were diagnosed with bipolar with psychotic features you need an antipsychotic.
