Diltiazem and heart rate

Common Questions and Answers about Diltiazem and heart rate

Avatar m tn Bear in mind that I am JUST a patient Dx'd w/and Tx'd for Atrial fibrillation. Diltiazem is scripted to slow heart rate. How soon in the morning after waking were you taking your heart rate? 60 bpm is a normal heart rate during sleep and shortly thereafter wouldn't be of any particular concern. Were you using a blood pressure monitor to check your heart rate? How was your blood pressure? Did you take any notice of the pulse pressure?
Avatar f tn Can't help you with the sex life part, as I'm a female, but I can share my experience switching from a beta blocker to diltiazem. I have been taking beta blockers for 8 years for SVT and afib. I had an episode of afib and was in the hospital is Sept. They took me off the beta blocker and put me on diltiazem. It didn't control my heart rate like the beta blocker. My resting heart rate went from upper 60s to the low 80s.
Avatar n tn I have some type of tachycardia that when i stand up(i dont even have to move) and my heart rate has gone as high as 170. it seems the only thing that helped my tach. was a b-blocker but i cant take them. they make me like a zombie and cuts my breathing out. I have lost 45 pounds since right after the birth of my baby. the doctor said im not over weight but my cholesterol is 225. so hopefully with the help of the lord i will be healed of all this.
Avatar f tn HI,I went back to my cardologist today because of my shortness of breath and chest pain and dizziness,,,he showed me the pictures of my stress test and he explained that the small portion that does not get adequate blood when stressed is not a serious thing,,,,but my heart rate problem,he gave me Verapamil sr to try this time 120 mg i have tried Bystolic and Atenol they made me feel very strange im so afraid this new med will drop my heart rate to much,,,,sometimes at night my heart rate is 86
1622431 tn?1299070442 But the Diltiazem helped with the chest pain, slowed down my heart rate and lower my BP a bit, helped with my Raynauds (where my blood vessels spasm and my hands and feet turn a yucky blue/gray color). The only side effects I had from starting it was a little bit of fatigue and a whopper of a headache. The headache lasted a couple weeks then tapered off. It's all a vascular reaction to the med and once I got past that part, the medication was great. But each person is different.
Avatar f tn I stopped taking the medicine 12 days ago could it still be in my system and be causing slow heart rate 40-45 during th day.
Avatar n tn Each time I stayed in sinus rhythm but the heart rate went up to 126 at the highest, and this was while I was on a calcium channel blocker, diltiazem, started by the internist who caught the rapid heart rate. The cardiologist switched me to verapamil and so far I haven't had any more episodes. I have kept track of my heart rate and BP for the last two months to see if there was a trend and because I'm trained as a scientist and we thrive on data!
Avatar n tn now my heart rate is between 80 and 92 . the last time i was but on a beta blocker and had a very bad reaction just after one tablet dr put me on proprananol heart all over the place so came off 2 days agow hospital changed my medication and put me on another beta blocker. i am back home havent taken it as am scared stiff its bisoprolol 1.
Avatar n tn I am a 64 yo runner (including marathons) who started noticing racing heart rates on occasion, even while sleeping. (I was using a heart rate monitor.) My max heart rate is 163 and resting heart rate is 38. Last week I went for a run and my heart rate went up to 260. Apparently it was already 130 before I started running So I went to the dr. yesterday and was prescribed Atenolol (25mg). Is that suitable for someone who already has such a low resting heart rate?
Avatar f tn My SVTs are usually less then 5 minutes and the maximum heart rate that was measured was between 160 and 180. So not very severe when compared to many posters. I also have hiccups and irregular rhythms that are a more recent development and have not been recorded by a monitor yet. The hiccups, etc. are many times daily now, while the SVTs are several a week, usually daily. Unfortunately I believe the increase in frequency is related to the reduction in meds.
Avatar m tn She told me to take one half of a 25 mg. at night and see how that works. But not to let my heart rate up go up too high because it can lead to afib. I tried that, need a little more during the day. She says Atenolol is a 24 hour drug, but it doesn't stay in my system that long. I do have a pulse oximeter, but it only tells the rate and oxygen saturation, not the irregular beats. My ep says some people are taking 200 mg. of Atenolol -- I believe he meant when in permanent afib.
672586 tn?1280933658 You are changing from one class of heart medicine to another. I would question the abrupt withdrawal directly with your doctor, and perhaps I'd ask your pharmacist about the possible problems. Also, a Cardiologist might have important imput in this decision.
866207 tn?1239495169 Did you mean Diltiazem? Because this is a cardiac and blood pressure medication to treat Tachycardia, Relax Heart Muscles and treatr Angina and High Blood Pressure it is in the Calcium Channel Blocker Group. What was this prescription meant to treat in your case? Check and make sure, You can go to www.drugs.com and enter the name in the search bar and it will give you all info regarding any medications, including side affects, interactions etc.
Avatar m tn Heart rate jumped up very quickly for 15-30 seconds, slowed for a few beats and then jumped back up again for 15-30 seconds, then slowed for a couple regular beats, then ran up again - this process of fast heart rate followed by a few slow beats, followed by fast heart rate repeated for several minutes - somewhere between 5 and 10 mins probably - during this episode I became increasingly dizzy, my breathing picked up and I sweated through my clothes - it left me feeling weak and with some che
Avatar m tn t get my heart rate down, and made me spend the night. (After the decision to hospitalize me was made my heart rate went back to normal.) The cardiologist put me on Diltiazem. The night nurse decided to quit the Diltiasem because my blood pressure was down to 80/40. Anyway, Diltiasem is what I'm taking now. I didn't get a lot of information from anybody at the hospital, so I don't know what kind of PSVT I have. Isn't that sad?
Avatar n tn The rule of thumb is that your cadio zone is calculated as a range between 65% and 85% of your "max" heart rate. You calculate your max rate by subtracting your age from 220 and then multiplying 65% to 85%. In my case, it's 220 - 43 = 177 max, and my range is 115 to 151. I can definitely go beyond 151, but a good training zone for me is between 130 - 145. An all out sprint for me is around 160.
Avatar m tn 22 june to 28 june very stable heart rate with only 2 or 3 times of irregular beating, and always good in the morning. However my blood pressure seams to be increasing.highest172/108p63 in the morning, but usually 140/95 pulse 70. If it stays high I think I will start monocor again, maybe 1.25 mg to see what happens. What do you think?
Avatar m tn My HR on a home blood pressure meter usually reads between 40 and 55. On a finger Pulse/Oximeter it is usually around 35-45. I used a blood pressure cuff in a pharmacy today, and my HR was 35 with BP of 116/57. It seems logical to me that PVCs leading to 20% skipped beats would cause a heart rate "count" at least 20% below a normal resting HR -- you can't count what ain't there. Can you? What am I missing?
Avatar n tn I was put on Verapamil at first and ended up in ER with chest pain, SOB and general weakness. Now I can take Diltiazem (similar but different) with no trouble. Two medications seem like a lot of drugs to control some atrial tachy. Can you be more specific as to what type of atrial tach you have: PSVT, a-flutter, a-fib? How fast and how long do the episodes last?
Avatar n tn The episodes are long and I have to go ER to terminate it by IV medicine each time. My heart rate is also very fast, around 200 b per min, even more. The situation is getting worse this year. I had four episodes already this year even I took medicine Diltiazem (180 mg) everyday. The good thing is I can terminate it by taking extra Diltiazem (250 mg) and lay down for 30 mins. My doctor told me my problem is left ventricular fascicular tachycardia, which is an uncommon tachycardia.
Avatar m tn 29, caucasian male. 2 weeks ago now (14 days) I went to have a physical b/c I had been lightheaded on and off for the 2 weeks prior to the physical. Had an abnormal EKG, which showed tachycardia. The Dr. sent me to the ER. At the ER, same EKG (tachycardia). They also did a CT which was negative showing I was not having/did not have a heart attack. Blood tests were normal - normal thyroid. Cholesterol is slightly elevated but that does not cause tachycardia.
Avatar f tn You take metoprolol, diltiazem, enalapril and telmisartan. The first two agents address primarily heart rate (HR) but are not great blood pressure (BP) drugs. Speaking of HR, what is the reason that you see an electrophysiologist? Atrial fibrillation? and are you feeling poorly when your heart rate is 40s?
Avatar n tn The issue is often one of controlling the heart rate. We will first try to control the heart rate with one medication. If that does not work, a second medication is added. Sometimes even a third medication is needed. Cardizem (diltiazem) is known to cause swelling at higher doses, it seems elderly women are common group to have this problem. One option is to use a medication called digoxin to help slow down the rate and decrease the dose of diltiazem.
Avatar f tn Test is next week, supposed to stop methimazole Saturday morning for test on Wednesday. I just spent 9 days on cardiac ward with hr in 180/190 every time I got up, in afib.. Finally they cardio converted and it straightened out. They tell me when the meds are stopped my heart will speed up... I'm taking bisoprolol and diltiazem and eloquis.. none of them slowed my heart while in hospital...
Avatar n tn Can Diltiazem 24HR ER 180mg Caps one taken daily cause sleepiness and fatigue during the day?
Avatar f tn And my research shows slow heart rate as a common side effect. She said I could switch back to the metoprolol and diltiazem regimen I had been on. But that was when I was experiencing very rapid heart rates that felt awful. So is this what life is going to be from now on? Or will I develop tolerance to the sotalol?
