Avatar m tn I take 5 mg of Warfarin each day and a low dose aspirin once a day. I take the aspirin in the morning and the warfarin at bed time.
Avatar n tn I have been prescribed and current taking Diltiazem. I have seen a cardiologist had EKG and all he did was tell me to continue the med. When I asked him if I will have future attacks he said because of my age it is likely. Is there a treatment that will prevent these attacks from happening again because everything I read indicates strokes follow these attacks? I am not on any blood thinners unless the Diltiazem is one.
Avatar f tn Hi i have been diagnosed with atrial flutter and im really scared. i am 24 and am now on diltiazem lowest dose. i am very symptomatic to meds. i was on metoprolol and i had bad asthma with it. so recently i was switched. well i am a nursing student ready to graduate and am pretty fond of the heart and conduction, so i am affraid of things like clot formations and the fact that the medicine isnt stopping the flutters.
237039 tn?1264258057 Huh, I never thought about the meds. My ears ring and tick (like a pocket watch). Sometimes it's pretty loud, sometimes it's hardly noticeable. I have noticed it's affecting my ability to hear things as well as I used to. I take Diltiazem. For some reason I thought people got ringing in the ears from high BP. Also if they take too much aspirin. I've never bothered to look it up though.
5745288 tn?1373476059 After about 10 days of this treatment, Fluffy started to display obvious signs of intestinal distress, including heaving, vomiting, and diarrhea, we called the vet, and he said to cut the aspirin dose in half, and if Fluffy is still having problems, administer pepsid twice a day as well. He is much better on a half dose of aspirin, but still not quite himself and his little stomach bulges out on the days I give him the aspirin (it does not appear to be tender).
177337 tn?1310059899 I just got back from my internist. She is truly a wonderful compasionate doctor that really wants to help keep me as healthy as possible. Of course all my blood tests came back perfect except that I was low in Vitamin D. I was actualy hoping something was off so that I had a reason for the increase in these damn episodic pvc's that have been lasting for hours at a time. She wants me to try a channel blocker called diltiazem on an "as needed" basis.
Avatar m tn I remained in the hospital for two days. They treated me first with Diltiazem and then gave me Flecainide which stopped the afib within 45 minutes. They kept me for monitoring, and then discharged me. I am now taking 120mg Diltiazem once a day, and Flecainide 50mg twice a day along with an aspirin. I was told by the cardiologist, that I will have to take this medication for the rest of my life. I am a 61 year old male 5'6" 145 lbs.
Avatar m tn 4 years ago had partial colectomy and 6 months chemo. Have peripheral neuropathy in legs and hands from FOLFOX. For the last 6 months I have been very fatigued after little exercise. Mostly sedentary and 30 lbs overweight. Blood pressure good but slow pulse and can't take beta blockers. Ongoing meds: Lipitor 20mg (cholesterol levels pretty good), Xanax 0.
3086858 tn?1340852861 It is uncommon that an asthma problem start later in life (not in childhood) and is that sever that produce fatigue and shortness of breath. Talk to a cardiologist and complete your study.
Avatar n tn It really depends on what you need. If this has been prescribed for you, and you are uncertain about it, then you can always ask your doctor for more clarification. It really just all depends on your individual circumstances.
Avatar n tn I got worried so I looked up sudden sweats on the internet and found it could be a sign of a heart attack. THis scared me very much and so I got a little panicky and got more flushed and got the feeling I recognize when people have told me I look pale. The sweats lasted about 5 minutes and the panicky feeling came and went for hours. The episode and the feat associated with it are combined enough so I can't completely tell them apart.
1225040 tn?1274025598 and 400mg. vitamin E and wear a nitro patch at night for 14 hrs. and take nitro when needed. and diltiazem cd 120mg. once a day. I am supposed to call him in 3 weeks and see how I am doing, he also took blood work for thyroid and anemia. hopeful at some point they can get to the bottom of this. I at least have a little better outlook. I will keep everyone posted.
1302576 tn?1273270866 I suffer from permanent AFib, but my symptoms are not difficult as yours are. I take aspirin and warfarin to reduce risk of stroke and beta and calcium blockers to slow down my HR. With all of this I feel reasonable and can even engage in moderate physical activity. No mountain climbing or running, but I can walk and do yard and house work and have no problems.
Avatar n tn I am currently on 30 mg of diltiazem 3x day and i was wondering how effective is this dose at bring down your blood pressure. and how much would it bring it down. a rough estimate would be great. for i am hoping to come off of this medicine.
Avatar m tn Any ideas how I can control the A-Fib without all these bad side-effects? Am tempted to dump the Diltiazem and go back to low dose of beta-blocker and hope the nasty side-effects won't be so severe with only 25 mg/day. Feeling like a guinea-pig with an out-of-control heart at this point. Also, is it OK to take 1/2 - 1 mg of Lorazepam during an A-fib episode? It seems to help slow down the racing. Any suggestions/advice very welcome. Thanks!
Avatar m tn Not all of us respond the same to the same medications. The indapamide worked better for you than the dilitazem so it only makes sense to stay w/the indapamide and forego the diltiazem since your doctor obviously didn't consider the indapamide and diltiazem a good combinantion. I understand about uninsured doctor visits. We lost our family doctor of some 30 years and got a rude shock when we started doctor shopping!!! From a standard $35 office call to a $150 initial office call!!!!!
1622431 tn?1299070442 I've taken Diltiazem and it works quite well. I have PAC's, PVC's and PSVT (a type of atrial tachy). Years ago they gave me Verapamil (similar to Diltiazem) and it did not agree with me at all. I can't take beta blockers because I have asthma. But the Diltiazem helped with the chest pain, slowed down my heart rate and lower my BP a bit, helped with my Raynauds (where my blood vessels spasm and my hands and feet turn a yucky blue/gray color).
Avatar f tn I have been taking metoprolol and diltiazem for sixteen months and initially the medications brought the SVTs under control. Fourteen months ago I started coughing blood and experiencing chest congestion. This took my attention off any heart issues and sent me on a long search for the cause of the bleeding. After many tests and visits with various specialists I never did get the answer. The bleeding resolved itself after 10 months (last October) and has not reappeared.
Avatar f tn Anyway, he said that I was over medicated so he lowered my dosage back down to 240 mg. of Diltiazem CD and he also put me on Enalapril 2.5 mg. Since my Diltiazem dosage was raised I have been losing weight unintentionally. Believe me I have been eating VERY well and the pounds are still dropping. I have struggled to lose weight for months and now all of a sudden I'm losing. My question is could the Diltiazem be causing me to lose weight and has this happened to anyone else?
Avatar n tn I emailed my cardio and he said that with no symptoms and the heart rate is ok that I do nothing and wait it out. Your opinion, please?
Avatar n tn Then (like you) I went on to diltiazem for 3 days. While on this, I had some insomnia and almost felt like I was having a stroke at one point. I had facial flushing and weird body sensations. Came off that one. Now I'm on atenolol (25 mg) and it puts me to SLEEP very easily. It's so funny that some people like you experience insomnia whereas I can barely keep my eyes awake. I take atenolol b/c of tachycardia moreso than high BP but I do have prehypertension.
Avatar f tn The first in two years landed me in the Hospital. My meds were changed from Metoprolol to Diltiazem 360 mg per day and Fleconade 50 mg 2x per day plus Warfarin. The Metoprolol 25mcg 1 x daily has been making me wheeze for the past four years, but no one ever thought to change the meds. I have been on this new med protocol for 1.5 weeks. I just started the Fleconide and Warfarin three days ago. My question is I need to loose 45 pounds asap.
Avatar n tn First time, adenosine failed twice to bring down 180+ pulse. Diltiazem given, and worked. Sent home with extended-release 120mg diltiazem. Experienced breakthrough arrhythmias and eventual return to tachycardia 170bpm that lasted 8 hours before heading to the ER again. Given fast-acting diltiazem 60mg, which seems to be working so far, although I'm still experiencing arrhythmias. Cardiologist preliminarily diagnosed AVNRT and recommended ablation asap.
Avatar f tn I was on it for a week but my side effects were not very pleasant, a bit out of the norm. They took me off of it. Now I take Diltiazem (another CCB) without much trouble. A heart rate of 86 at night is still pretty brisk. Mine is normally 60 at rest, in the low 70's when I'm up moving around. And that was before Diltiazem. No, I'm not athletic. I'm an old pudgy lady.
Avatar f tn I had an episode of afib and was in the hospital is Sept. They took me off the beta blocker and put me on diltiazem. It didn't control my heart rate like the beta blocker. My resting heart rate went from upper 60s to the low 80s. After a few days without my beta blocker, I ended up in the ER, in sinus tachycardia with a rate of about 120. Long story short, it did not do a good job of keeping my heart rate down.
996946 tn?1503249112 I know what you mean, jerry about the human meds. We haven't left for the appt yet because the Vet was tied up with surgeries. But we will be leaving shortly. I have had time to do some research on the meds Barney is on and it sounds like they are exactly what he needs but I still question the Diltiazem....I took that once before myself and didn't have good results with it and poor Barney can't tell me how he's feeling on it.
