dilantin

Avatar f tn if the levels are high, in the toxic range, and then your dose is cut down and your episodes stop, then it could be the dilantin. But non-toxic (normal) dilantin levels to my knowledge do not cause sleep attacks. If you are suffering from sleep attacks, one possibility is a sleep disorder. Sleep apnea, which is due to increased resistance in your airway during sleep, can lead to poor ventilation.
Avatar n tn 3 and they gave him a loading dose of 500mg. PO of dilantin, and 500mg. IV Dilantin. He is very regimented taking his Dilantin and does not miss doses. And told him to take 400mgs. today. I have a call in to our family Dr. and waiting for a return. We were being seen by a Neurologist, but she abruptly cancelled my husbands January appt. and said she was leaving town for a month, and did not refer us to any other Dr. so we saw the family Dr. who is prescribing.
Avatar n tn Hi, Your blood test report shows a slightly low WBC (White Blood Cell) count of 3.2 (Normal for most laboratories is 4.0 to 11.0) Also, the ANC (Absolute Neutrophil Count) is in the lower range at 1.7. Low counts can transiently be seen in absolutely normal people; in others, it may represent diseased states. Do you have any symptoms like weakness, fever, bleeding? If not, then your doctor may simply choose to repeat the test after a couple of weeks.

Avatar f tn Dilantin Withdrawal Symptoms The most significant Dilantin withdrawal symptom is a seizure. Suddenly stopping Dilantin can increase your risk of seizures These seizures can be especially severe and very difficult to control. Anxiety, sleeplessness, feeling cold, anger, seeing dead people in sleep, nausea, little appetite, shakineness are usually not due to the withdrawl of dilantin.Reduce your dose gradually to avoid seizures. Avatar m tn t find a workable dosage of phenobartibal, you might want to ask your vet about either Dilantin, Valium, potassium bromide, felbamate, or a different type of anti-seizure medicine that can be used in conjunction with potassium bromide and/or phenobarbital together called Zonisamide. Zonisamide is totally unrelated to any of the other anticonvulsants, but, like Keppra, the full extent of its side effects is not yet known so to some vets, it is somewhat controversial to prescribe it.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm a 53 year old male and my ammonia blood test just came back at 89 umol/L. I bellieve the normal range is 10-45. I'm also taking Valproic Acid (2500 mg/ day), Lamictal (300 mg/ day) and Dilantin (500 mg/day) for seizures. All my other blood tests are in range. Can anyone tell me if this is a dangerously high level, i.e., liver or kidney damaging?

1327431 tn?1327072104 There is no normal range with thyroid, every person has an optimal range where the have no symptoms, the problem today with thyroid is that many mds still use an old reference range for TSH as an example, some go by .05 to 5.5, some 0.4 to 4.5 and the better one use .03 to 3.

1666769 tn?1303248079 blood serum level--at least the medication level will stay within an acceptable range, but dilantin can have many unpleasant side effects, especially at 500mg. Neuroloigsts--better, epileptologists, or neurologists who specialize in epilepsy--know more about this jazz than internists. Dilantin is not prescribed as often as it used to be. SInce it has been around for many years, we have discovered that there are many side effects which are not worth risking.
Avatar m tn My neurologist just informed me that Osteoporosis and shrinkage of the Cerebellum are very serious side effects for long term users of Dilantin. Does anyone know more about this? I've been taking 500mg of Dilantin for over 30 years since I was a teenager, and now I'm terribly worried. Not one of the neurologists had mentioned anything about this over the years, and now at 46, I've learned that I may have severe osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know what can cause Dilantin levels to be too low after taking correct dosage? My levels have been around 3.2 and I take the correct dosage my doctor prescribed of 400 MG a day. 200 in the morning and 200 at night. My doctor thinks I am not taking my Dilantin and I cannot convince him otherwise!!! I don't know what to do or where to find any information about it. Would appreciate any information, please.
Avatar f tn can 20 years on dilantin after one seizure, then a stroke with no speech, cause terrible sideeffects?
Avatar n tn Is anybody here taking the new Dilantin? Are you having any problems with it?
506273 tn?1260138781 t remember much of anything. All the tests blood, catscan, MRI came back normal. The EEG came back abnormal and I was told it was my whole brain that was affected, not either side but both. With a recent drop of the medicine xanax, they attributed the seizures to that. Apparently, I cut my dosage in half for about a week or so before the seizures. I'm still a bit foggy. I am to see the neurologist on May 30, and don't know what to expect.
Avatar n tn My husband was recently diagosed with glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer. The neurosurgeon put him on Dilantin "for life." He isn't even going to check blood levels. My husband has not had any seizures. Does this seem appropriate?
1924139 tn?1322798705 From my experience no but people do grow out of it if they are lucky enough our healed from it. I was on Dilantin, Phenobarbital and Lamictal three years ago. My Dr took me off of Dilantin and no more problems. I was on Dilantin over twenty years and i was scared. Let me know what happens because depending on your dosage you would be off of it or almost by now. I wish you the best.
