both ALP and GGT are elevated in disease of the bile ducts and in some liver diseases, but only ALP will be elevated in bone disease. If the GGT level is normal in a person with a high ALP, the cause is most likely bone disease. GGT can also be used to screen for chronic alcohol abuse (it will be elevated in about 75% of chronic drinkers).
ve recently had another set of blood tests (after being taken to hospital after a another seizure )which are, ALP 384 (258) , GGT 615 (292), ALT 155 (82) and ASP 66 (56), up from the month prior (see the figures in brackets). I have been on Dilantin now for three weeks. Would this new medication be the result of the elevation in one month. Additionally I have noticed swelling of my feet and hands, bloating and very pale coloured faeces.
i started taking dilantin and im late for my period almost 4 weeks.
I have a TSH of 0.24 and T4 of 1.04. I have been on Dilantin for 30 years. I have been on Thyroid replacement therapy for 18 years with monthly injection of B12. I have had extreme fatigue and chest pains. Seeing neurologist for medicine change and have be referred to endocrinologist. How concerned should I be? What tests should be given? Is this my pituitary gland?

At the same time she sent me for liver function tests. I went for the results and all was fine except my GGT was 93. (I do drink regularly).
She asked me to wait 1 month and go again, which I did.
I received a letter from her today asking me to fast from midnight to 9am and then go for further tests (this time not GGT) but liver profile, FBC, Lipid profile, glucose, fe studies and Hep B&C serology.

Stopping Dilantin quickly is not recommended. Although Dilantin is not addicting and is not likely to be abused, stopping it too quickly can cause seizures to worsen.
Dilantin Withdrawal Symptoms
The most significant Dilantin withdrawal symptom is a seizure. Suddenly stopping Dilantin can increase your risk of seizures These seizures can be especially severe and very difficult to control.
my neuro is taking me off dilantin slowly. i take 400mg daily . my neuro told me dilantin will cause mood swings and cause me to be irritable and was hard on your body after being on them so long. i have started keppra and dropping 1 dilantin a month . i was told my moods will improve and i will start to think more clearly. my neuro told me dilantin does slow your thinking and leaves you in a fog.
I took 2 old, and 1 new for about a month, then 2 new and 1 old, and am now on 3 new dilantin 100mg. every day. I have been on this for about 2 weeks, and I have not had any problem at all. I do feel kinda nervous about it, though, and never leave home without my medical card in my wallet. (something I never even had to think about with the old dilantin). How about you? Are you on the new capsules? If so, how are you doing?
3 and they gave him a loading dose of 500mg. PO of dilantin, and 500mg. IV Dilantin. He is very regimented taking his Dilantin and does not miss doses.
And told him to take 400mgs. today.
I have a call in to our family Dr. and waiting for a return.
We were being seen by a Neurologist, but she abruptly cancelled my husbands January appt. and said she was leaving town for a month, and did not refer us to any other Dr. so we saw the family Dr. who is prescribing.
Two meta-analyses (an analytic study combining the results of several clinical trials) done by Sirven, et al (2004) and Tremont-Lukats, et al (2008) showed no benefit to giving anti-epileptic drugs in general, and Dilantin in particular, to patients with brain tumors in order to prevent an initial seizure. Your husband may have an option not to take Dilantin since there's no difference in outcome.
