Avatar n tn s contractions are weaker than normal, and digoxin helps provide a stronger beating heart. If one has increased functionality of the heart, the drug may be dropped, also, there can be a tolerance that develops with digoxin that may require discontinuation for a period of time.
Avatar f tn However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes. There are so many newer drugs now that are far more effective. My basic understanding of Digoxin is that it works on the heart's electrical system and decreases the heart rate, but increases each stroke volume.
162069 tn?1224677411 It seems that the addition of digoxin to her regimen is what has done the trick, as it has significantly lowered her amount of SVT pac's are still very frequent, but as long as her ef is improved I am a very happy camper....

Avatar n tn s explanation where he states digoxin is used to treat irregular heartbeats. I was on digoxin for a few months following my congested heart failue event. It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor. My research: "Digoxin is contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation.
Avatar m tn tachy with normal BP brought on by exertion. EKG was normal the next day. She's a dear family member who doesn't live in the states and her doctor didn't believe her when she described the episode. Luckily digoxin is OTC in her country, but she would not want to take it prophylactically due to potential side effects. Any ideas what this could be??? Thank you in advance!!!!
Avatar m tn I recently went to a new doctor to have my digoxin levels checked and he noticed that my afib had returned. He was concerned because digoxin would not have been his choice of treatment and he said I should have also been taking aspirin or a blood thinner. That same day I had to back to the office for an echocardiogram and treadmill stress test. The echo turned out fine but eight minutes into the stress test my heart rate peaked at 275 bpm.
Avatar m tn She is putting normal weight, and all other functions of heart is normal except this tachycardia, LV dilation, little enlarged heart and EF. While doing the TFT we found that Free T3 is on the higher side. The reading is as follows. Free T3 = 6.7pmol/l Free T4 = 16.8 pmol/l TSH = 1.85uUl/ml. Avatar m tn She had no chest pain, only palpitations and general weakness. She took 1 mg digoxin PO and eventually the episode resolved. Had two more similar episodes in the past year: tachy with normal BP brought on by exertion. EKG was normal the next day. She's a dear family member who doesn't live in the states and her doctor didn't believe her when she described the episode.
Avatar f tn I'm 76 and have had 2 cardio versions. My cardio just took me off digoxin and started me on propafenone which is really making me sick. Do you ever adjust to it? I'm taking 225 mg twice a day.

As far as other drugs to try other than Digoxin, there are beta blockers and calcium channel blockers that I would ask my Dr about. I'm happy to answer any questions you have about having an ablation.

Avatar m tn However other blood tests revealed no raised levels of cardiac enzymes. Following medications (isosorbide mononitrate 2x 10mg, nicorandil 1 x 10mg , 75 mg clopidogrel) my ECG has returned to normal but I am now having an angiogram. What I would like to know is did I suffer a heart attack, if not what happened?
Avatar f tn I had a cardia ablation for atrial flutter on March 26. Supposedly it was a success, and I remained on 150mg daily of toprol xr and 1 tablet daily of digoxin.nwith that my pulse remained at rest between 57-65bpm with a high of 70bpm. I have short periods of feeling my heart race but it always reverts back and it's just a few seconds. But today it did not go back, shot up to 107bpm briefly and has slowly increases from 91bpm to 95bpm.

390388 tn?1279636213 He went so far as to call my cardiologist which I am scheduled to see today anyway and now I have to have the blood test to check for toxicity levels of Digoxin. Not a big deal in the end but it makes one wonder sometimes.
2021358 tn?1328748117 It made a tremendous difference in my pulse, bp, and even in decreasing stomache nausea and constipation (stomache is also controlled by vagal nerve). I felt almost normal. Digoxin is the only drug I know of on the market which strengthens the vagal nerve. It is an old drug which was used for heart failure years ago. Unfortunately, I had bad side effects and had to cut my dose in half. Even if the MD does't go along with the digoxin, they are the specialists to see for the vagal nerve.

Avatar n tn I went to my cardiologist, she increased my digoxin from .25 to .375 and told me that my potassium level was on the lower end of normal to eat a banana or drink a glass of OJ daily. I had asked her if she thought it was some sort of panic attack (I have no prior panic attacks) with really no response other than lets monitor for the next 3 months. Well it has been 3 weeks now and I have woken up at least 2 times a week w/ the same problem.
