Avatar f tn Recently due to some episodic spikes in my blood pressure I have been put on atenolol and my doctor would like me to add Micardis (thiazide diuretic and ARB) to this blocker. Now this is I guess common practice but this is exactly what the Professor in charge of the study has asked doctors not to do. Would you know anything about this? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Edema is a common side effect of the Norvasc and a low dose thiazide diuretic will take care of the swelling and also help the BP.
Avatar n tn s contractions are weaker than normal, and digoxin helps provide a stronger beating heart. If one has increased functionality of the heart, the drug may be dropped, also, there can be a tolerance that develops with digoxin that may require discontinuation for a period of time.
478554 tn?1208034407 I seek alternative Hyrochorothiatide Diuretic HZT drug to avoid the side effect of raise Triglycerides. I have medium high blood pressure problem for years. Typical measurements is around 148 / 95 without medication, 138/89 with medication. I am seeking alternative to the Hyrochorothiatide diuretic HZT drug. My current blood pressure prescription are the following three drugs: 1. Diltiazem extended release 240mg 2. Amlodipine 2.5mg 3.
Avatar m tn I know there was a recent recall of Digoxin in the U.S. Check with your doctor about any changes in medications. Is there any chance the pain is because of the ICD? I've heard some people say they have some discomfort from the leads/placement of the device, etc. Does your doctor think it's OK for you to take over the counter pain medication? If so, what does he suggest?
Avatar m tn It is essentially the same as Hyzaar which contains a combination of hydrochlorothiazide and losartan. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention. Losartan is also in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Losartan keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow which is exactly how Diovan works.
Avatar n tn ve taken ACE inhibitors, ARBs, calcium channel blockers, and now the renin inhibitor and diuretic. Should I still take the thiazide diuretic and renin inhibitor?
Avatar m tn A diuretic might be the first drug prescribed. A thiazide is probably the cheapest anti-HTN drug available. Are you exercising? That can have a dramatic effect on BP lowering. Among other things, exercise can increase Nitric Oxide, which relaxes arteries. There's a Nobel Laureate named Ignarro who has a beginner's book out on the subject of increasing NO through non-drug means. All of the non-drug means apply mostly if you are borderline HTN.
Avatar f tn Generally it is commmon to see a anti-hypertensive, a antiarrhythmic, and possibly a cardiogenic agent such as digoxin, and a diuretic, prescribed together when heart disease exists. This is not unusual. Good luck with your research!
Avatar f tn To help prevent calcium stones from forming, your doctor may prescribe a thiazide diuretic or a phosphate-containing preparation. * Uric acid stones. Your doctor may prescribe allopurinol (Zyloprim, Aloprim) to reduce uric acid levels in your blood and urine and a medicine to keep your urine alkaline. In some cases, allopurinol and an alkalinizing agent may dissolve the uric acid stones. * Struvite stones.
Avatar m tn Many drugs can increase or decrease the level of uric acid. In particular, diuretic drugs like thiazide drugs can cause uric acid levels to go up, but also aspirin can have effects.
Avatar n tn Certain medications can cause a physical reaction which is known as photosensitivity. The consequences can range from itchiness to an uncomfortable rash, UV burns, or in extreme cases, death. The underlying cause can be those sensitve to thiazide.
Avatar f tn Digoxin (Lanoxin) -- Low blood levels of magnesium can increase negative effects from digoxin, including heart palpitations and nausea. In addition, digoxin can cause more magnesium to be lost in the urine. A doctor will monitor magnesium levels in people taking digoxin to see whether they need a magnesium supplement. Diuretics -- Two types of diuretics known as loop (such as furosemide or Lasix) and thiazide (including hydrochlorothiazide) diuretics can lower magnesium levels.
Avatar m tn Diagnosed with CHF and DCM in 1999. Probably tachycardia-induced. Multiple ineffective DC cardioversions, months of amiodarone, years of Tikosyn, Sotalol, and so many other drugs. Had my 2nd ablation at the mayo clinic in 2007. Restored NSR for 24 hours until an echo-tech jammed the probe really hard into my chestwall, knocked back into permanent afib since then.
Avatar m tn PTH and calcium are the most important, vitamin D would be interesting as well. This trend is most consistent with either normal variant for you (slightly high Calcium, normal PTH) or early primary hyperparathyroidism or young age (usually <30yo), or high calcium intake or thiazide diuretic use or vitamin A exposure (among other possibilities).....
Avatar f tn My husband and I would like to start trying for a baby but i'm on Betablockers for a tachycardia that no-one can find a reason for! i'm only on 1.25mg of bisoprolol, and would like to know what risks there are. I'm currently on a waiting list to see cardiology and find out what their opinion is but would like a bit of advice.
1090984 tn?1463769850 I am on 10mg lisinopril and 12.5 of a Diuretic. My fingers have been swelling up so bad the last 3 months to the point I had to have my rings cut off. My doctor doesn't seem concerned, just gave me another Diuretic 12.5 to take it when I swell up again. Will that lower my BP a lot or make me feel weird? I never heard of anyone taking that much unless they have CHF. I am a little concered why my fingers are so puffy all the time.
408795 tn?1324935675 If the diuretic isn't helping the swelling, could the swelling from another cause, such as osteoarthritis? I'm pretty sure that if lasix "stops working" they can prescribe a diuretic pill for you that contains more than one type of diuretic. There are 3 basic types of diuretics; each of which work in a different way. Attached is a link describing diuretics by Mayo Clinic. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/diuretics/HI00030 Good luck with this.
Avatar n tn My father recenlty fell, fractured his hip and I have been getting contradicting information about digoxin, since he has low blood pressure and digoxin may not be safe for him.. Thank you This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/239460'>Dijoxin Level</a>.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar f tn There’s a third class of drugs which help by improving the contractility of the heart and that is digoxin. You should consult another cardiologist and maybe another echo will help in settling the matters. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
4356842 tn?1353312209 So I had a pretty crappy cold about a week and a half ago, now being on digoxin I can't take cold meds so I stick it out. Well the cold is now over and my teeth are hurting. I see no signs of abscess' and my mom thinks it might be a sinus infection. No from what I've read online they usually give amoxcillin to treat it. My question is has anyone else on digoxin taken amoxcillin? Is it safe. Being on dig I know there's a lot of stuff we can and can not take.
