Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar m tn I have beem taking carvedilol for three years and have never seen a description of it so concise and clear.
Avatar f tn Potassium is a chemical element and it is part of the electrolyte that should be in balance with other lytes to adequately conduct an electrical impulse that originates with the sinus node in the right atrium. The mechanism of action is not completely understood, but what is when a voltage (unit of potential for conduction) and electrolyte there will conduction and passage of electrical impluses.

Avatar m tn Oyakawa I am in my 3rd year of medical school and I was wondering the mechanism of action of steroid injections in the eyelid causing cataracts. It is not an osmotic agent so why does that occur? thanks so much.
Avatar f tn beta blockers can cause growth restriction so they will do ultrasounds every 4 weeks. i was on propanolol for headaches and then it stopped working so i was taken off of it. i don't know the effects of the meds in the begining of preg as far as birth defects. many docs don't either. there just isn't much research with meds and pregnancy. you will register with a med site so they track if you or the baby have any complications. i am on a ton of meds and see so many docs.

Avatar f tn This effect is likely to be caused by reduction of sympathetic activity or increase of parasympathetic activity. Increase of systolic blood pressure during sleep is probably caused by the positive inotropic effect of the drug. Oxygen saturation levels are measured before nebulisation to check the amount of oxygen required to be administered . After the process , the levels are checked to see whether the required levels of above 95 % or more have been reached or not . Hope this helps you .
4703993 tn?1379768388 t tried this, but Lanoxin (same thing) was offered to me by one doctor and I mentioned it to Heiferly who explained how it could be a possible fit in my situation (I have P.O.T.S. and I.S.T. and have had high catecholamine/inactive metabolites of same numbers here and there in the past with testing. But I was concerned when I read about possible toxicity so I didn't do it. But if things ever get so bad I need to do something like that, I'd want to get close monitoring if I tried it!
Avatar n tn My father recenlty fell, fractured his hip and I have been getting contradicting information about digoxin, since he has low blood pressure and digoxin may not be safe for him.. Thank you This discussion is related to Dijoxin Level.
Avatar f tn Plavix has a unique mechanism of action by blocking the amplification of platelet activation by released ADP, and often used with aspirin to prevent the risk of clots for the first year after DES implant. Plavix and aspirin have different mechanism of action to prevent clots. After a year, plavix is usually discontinue as the risk for clots is decreased, and aspirin is continued long term. The risk of a clot is about 3%.
Avatar n tn There is preload and that is the amount of blood that fills the left ventricle during the resting phase and expands the heart wall chamber. An expanded chamber nomally increases the EF by the Frank/Starling mechanism...an anology would be a handspring that is stretched will spring back with more force, and over stretch is will become flaccid. When the heart is over stretched (dilated it will lose its contractility) and that will decrease the EF to a level below 29% (heart failure range).
Avatar f tn The Heart Rhythm Society did a few randomized trials to assess the efficacy of calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers and digoxin in SVT. A comparison of verapamil, propranolol and digoxin showed equivalent efficacy in a small group of patients. However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes.
4356842 tn?1353312209 So I had a pretty crappy cold about a week and a half ago, now being on digoxin I can't take cold meds so I stick it out. Well the cold is now over and my teeth are hurting. I see no signs of abscess' and my mom thinks it might be a sinus infection. No from what I've read online they usually give amoxcillin to treat it. My question is has anyone else on digoxin taken amoxcillin? Is it safe. Being on dig I know there's a lot of stuff we can and can not take.
Avatar f tn s common use is for Afib and Aflutter, beta and calcium channel blockers are the more modern medicine of choice. Digoxin has potentially dangerous interactions with verapamil, and amiodarone, and a number of other commonly prescribed drugs.
Avatar f tn s my completely unprofessional opinion on what I know about digoxin, and I took it for a number of years as a kid for SVT. It's an old drug that's been used literally for centuries. I took it back in 1957. It's inherently toxic and if that fact was not enough to curtail its use, there's evidence that suggests the drug, even at dosages normally considered safe, can cause visual problems, serious skin rashes, and may significantly aggravate asthma.
Avatar n tn A heart murmur is a sound heard as the blood flows through the heart and especially the blood flow through the heart valves. If there is a defect, a stethoscope hears a specific sound for different defects. â– Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. ACE inhibitors lower the system's blood pressure. The mechanism of action is to relax the blood vessels and that provides less resistance for the heart to pump against and decreases blood pressure.
Avatar n tn Although plavix and aspirin are anti-platelet agents, plavix has a different mechanism of action that seems to be specialized for drug eluding stent to prevent restenosis. Laviquin is an antibiotic medication! and there is a class-action suit against Laviqiin providers that is currently unresolved.
Avatar n tn The right-upper chamber node produces electrical impulses that are transmitted to polarize and depolarize specific heart cells. This action contracts and then relaxes heart tissue for heart pumping contractions and relaxation for filling heart chamber. Nonspecific ST-T wave abnormalities, is frequently used when the clinical data are not available to correlate with the ECG findings. This does not mean that the ECG changes are unimportant!
Avatar m tn We elucidated the unique mechanism of action of glycyrrhizin on HBsAg processing, intracellular transport, and secretion.
Avatar f tn I take Metoprolol to lower my HR which is driven by AFib. It helps, and in the beginning gave me a case of too low BP, but that has mostly gone away... my BP is now near normal, again. I am not sure if I feel any more energetic, but I do not have dizzy spells.
Avatar n tn They gave me a beta blocker and a shot of digoxin and told me I had tachycardia. I went to my cardiologist, she increased my digoxin from .25 to .375 and told me that my potassium level was on the lower end of normal to eat a banana or drink a glass of OJ daily. I had asked her if she thought it was some sort of panic attack (I have no prior panic attacks) with really no response other than lets monitor for the next 3 months.
