I want to Thank You both fo your answers My dr took me off of novalin and put me on Humulin 15 units twice a day and it is working some what better I take the humulin like I did the Novalin 15 minutes before meals sugars are doing some better not running near as high as it was on the Lantus If I do not see any results in the next couple of weeks will ask to be referred to and endro

They carry it under the Relion name, but it is the same as Humulin N, which is another nph insulin, similar to novolin. Most dogs do well on either Novolin N or Humulin N. Personally, I found Humulin N to work better for my dog. The cost of a bottle of insulin at WalMart is about $25 compared to $50 for the same thing at a regular retail pharmacy.

In the past I was put on Novolin NPH (28 units morn and 28 at bedtime) and I was taking 7 units of reg with each meal. Well, I recently changed drs and the new dr put me on Novolog pen 70/30-I am at 18 units ever 12 hours and it is not lowering blood sugar readings at all. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is the Novolog pen comparable with the NPH and Reg regamen? I was doing well with the Novolin and I am confused as to why I was swithched.
You might need a long lasting insulin at might that works doing the day also. I take Novolin and i don't need anything else and i eat what i want.
Hello Dr., in 1993, at 37 yrs age, I was diagnosed with Diabetes Type II, since then I have been taking the insulin injection (huminsulin), but this week my fasting C-peptide came out 0.1 and my Dr said that it is almost nill, and recommended I should go on insulin pump. The person tests their blood sugar before each meal and at bed time and compares the result to the scale prescribed by the doctor and inject the appropriate amount of insulin (if indicated). It is a good idea to record these levels in a journal so it can be shared with the doctor.
The idea is to keep the blood sugar at a steady, consistent level. If your friend's sugar is not consistent, he or she needs to see their health care provider for a thorough check up.

When you see your specialist, tell them about your needle fears. There are micro fine needle and insulin pens with needles so small it's unbelievable. They usually have samples and will walk you through doing injections. Then, you can experiment as to which locations are most comfortable for you.
I am on Humalog and Humulin N, with 4 injectiins daily. I use insulin pens with nano needles. I prefer using my belly. Most of the time, i feel NOTHING. Good luck!!!

After giving birth, the gestational diabetes took a respite for 6 months and then my sugars shot up and I lost 30 pounds hoping to avoid insulin but I ended up on insulin anyway. I kept off those 30 pounds and was at an average weight until I started Lantus and now I gained back all that weight.
While doctors will tell you it's not the insulin as they don't want you to stop taking it, I do believe some insulins (like any medication) have side effects.

I didn't see your msg until today and hope I can be of some help to you. I'm not a physician, but I have been a pumper for ~9 years and have had DM for ~35.
When I starated pumping, the only insulins available were "Regular" insulin and the main difference, as you know, is "how quickly" the insulin starts working, when it peaks and how long it lasts. Regular normally kicks in later than Novolog or Humalog will.
