Common Questions and Answers about Difference between aciphex and protonix

aciphex

Avatar n tn Besides the cost, is their truly a difference between Nexim and Prilosec. The active components in Nexium are esomprazole magnesium and in Prilosec are Omeprazole Magnesium. Also, Nexium comes in 20 mg and 40 mg capsules and Prilosec is sold over the counter in 20 mg tablets. My GI switched me to Nexium because Aciphex gave me terrible side effects and Protonix made my water brash symptoms ever worse. I have tried Prilosec in the past and it didn't have much of an effect for me.
Avatar n tn Prevacid, Nexium, Protonix, Aciphex, Zantac, and Pepcid are all used to treat reflux. You can ask you doctor who will know best which one is least likely to cause you dizzyness.
Avatar n tn So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me. I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?). Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn Protonix and Nexium did NOTHING for me, nor did Aciphex. Prevacid works OK, and my doc suggested Kapidex and I took it for a month. I did about as well on it as the Prevacid if not a tad better. I think Prevacid and/or Kapidex blow away Nexium; although what may be right for me will not be guaranteed for you. My doc gave me a 3 week free-sample of Kapidex, and you take it once a day. I'm always open to trying something new.
2121656 tn?1395674749 I always took my thyroid med first thing when I got up, then my Aciphex and BP meds about an hour later. What you really have to watch out for and make sure you keep the 4 hour separation is vitamins/minerals, such as calcium, magnesium, etc. I currently take my BP med and fluid pill, along with my T3 med, about an hour after my Tirosint (T4). You could also try taking your Protonix at night, if you really want to keep that separation.
Avatar m tn to the point where I would wake up in the middle of the night gasping for breath with a mouthful of acid. I was on Aciphex first, then Protonix and now Nexium. My problem is that the back of my tongue is all white and bumpy (looks a bit like thrush). I was told that this is from the acid that has come up over the years. Is that likely? If so, is there anything I can do to remove it (treatment, over-the-counter remedy, medication, etc.)? Thanks for the help!
Avatar n tn Hi, probably it is cervical spondylosis. “Cervical spondylosis results from chronic degeneration of the cervical spine including the cushions between the neck vertebrae (cervical disks) and joints between the bones of the cervical spine. There may be abnormal growths or "spurs" on the vertebrae (the bones of the spine). These accumulated changes caused by degeneration can gradually compress one or more of the nerve roots.
193988 tn?1215023883 re cancerous. Luckily, prescription meds (aciphex) have made all the difference in his condition and he can now eat normally again. A reflux diet mostly involves avoiding acidic foods and beverages like alcohol, caffeine, tomato products and spicy foods. Because reflux is often worse when a person is lying down, avoid eating two hours before going to bed. In serious cases of GERD, over the counter meds won't help.
177337 tn?1310059899 When I thought back to all my times on Protonix or Aciphex, I can DEFINITELY tell you there is a correlation. I have extreme acid, so I've tested this over the last few months. Every single time I start one of these, my PVCs become much worse. When I posted I got a lot of responses that the same thing happened to others. Now I just take after-the-fact drugs like Zantac, tums, and Gaviscon. Nothing I can do. I had to decide which I hate worse.
Avatar m tn m not getting relief with chiropractic care or anything else for that matter, I started thinking about medication and side effects. The protonix s the only thing that could possibly be the culprit. I went off of it two days ago, took omaprazole instead, and have had a 50% reduction in the pain. Has anyone else experienced this. I am reluctant to mention it to the doctor because I'm afraid he will dismiss it. I want to be sure before I talk to him.
Avatar f tn Hi. I take Prevacid, which is a little pricey, even with insurance. However, there is another one, Aciphex, which was about 30 dollars cheaper. I am back on the Prevacid as the Aciphex didn't work as well ( for me...I was on Prevacid for years and only switched because of the cost...65 dollars). You may want to ask about that. Also, I was told my pharmacist that otc prilosic works well too.
Avatar f tn t have medicaid and yesterday my health insurance company said I must use generic of Prilosec first and if it does not work I guess my doc can request the Protonix. I really feel a difference not having the Protonix. Glad you can receive it. Thanks.
Avatar m tn I connect a straight line between the taking of aciphex and the development of GERD. Is this a reasonable conclusion? or is there some other more likely explanation?
Avatar n tn Hello, I have had heartburn and stomach problems for over 30 years. I'm 67 yrs.old and have tried all the different perscription medications. I have been taking protonix for about 5 years now and I'm concerned about long term use of protonix and all the other heartburn medications I have been taking for 30 years. I still suffer from heartburn daily. I have had 4 Endoscopy's done at different times and my Dr.
Avatar f tn aciphex, otc omeprazole, protonix, prevacid, nexium, prilosec, and zantac (and maybe more that I'm forgetting). They do nothing for me! Some help a little more than others. My doctors keep brushing me aside and I can't eat or breathe! I can't even lay on my side at night, I have to prop up on my back with pillows. Also, my father and aunt have severe Crohn's Disease and ileostomies. My dad just recently died of unknown causes and my aunt is on a daily feeding IV.
Avatar m tn 4 PPIs: Nexium, Prevacid, Aciphex, Protonix; 2 H2blockers: Zantac and Pepcid; 2 antiacids: Gaviscon and Riopan. I couldn't take any of these more than a few days (from 1 to 13 days) because of their side effects. The 2 bad side effects I've most often had are: worsened IBS - bad abdominal cramps (caused by Nexium together with fever and Zantac) a white-coated and burning tongue (caused by Prevacid, Zantac, Protonix, Pepcid, Riopan).
Avatar f tn The heartburn got frequent and severe enough to seek medical attention . They put me on aciphex and did a gastoscopy , finding just an irritated stomach lining . Ever since then I have had nothing but tons of epigastric pain and into my back . They switched me to protonix 40mg twice a day but I have minimal relief . Also had my gallbladder removed about 4 yrs ago . Any ideas ? Please Help !!!
Avatar n tn I have been on Aciphex 20 since 2007, with instant results. After changing Health Ins. , I am told by the current insurer that they won't cover Aciphex. I must go thru a step program, starting with Nexium, which my Doctor dosed at 40 mg instead of 20 mg, saying Nexium didn't come in 20 and the 40mg of Nexium is comparable to the 20 mg Aciphex . Questions: (1) Is the above true? (2) Are the side effects the same, and (3) What's the difference between the two.
Avatar f tn Even though medicines like nexium, prilosec, prevacid, protonix, aciphex, and dexilant are all very similar, sometimes you need to try many of them before you find one that works well for you. The nausea could be caused by the GERD. Are you on a GERD-friendly diet? Have you tried raising the head of your bed?
Avatar f tn s (proton pump inhibitors) are a group of medications used to treat GERD like Prilosec, Prevacid, Protonix, Aciphex, Nexium, and Dexilant.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the response. I've taken the PPI (aciphex) for 12 days but haven't really noticed much of a difference; I seem to have more relief from Liquid maalox than from the aciphex. My GP told me to switch to omeprazole and also requisitioned a blood test for Lipase and Amylase to make sure my pancreas was not involved. I don't really have any tenderness in my abdomen, and the doctor said she didn't feel or see any abnormalities.
Avatar m tn http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/barretts/index.ht I am making one such suggestion which you can follow and see. Omeprazole is a good drug to combat this. Along with it you can try over the counter antacids. Avoid heavy meals. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, fried food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal. Raise the head end of the bed or raise pillows to 30 degrees. Go to bed at least 2 hours after food.
Avatar m tn t working, take 2 of them or get a prescription for protonix or a stronger version of Nexium, aciphex, or lansoprazole. Protonix is really good. If it does not relieve your symptoms, get a GI consult and ask them to do an endoscopy if indicated. It could be a hiatal hernia, but its a stretch. Id bet GERD 99%.
Avatar f tn in Arizona Aciphex should be working. My wife has been taking Aciphex for 1yr and a half and it was not doing anything for her, if anything her condition was getting worse. So thats when we went to the hospital and they ran all the exams on my wife, and we are back to square one once again where no one can tell us what's wrong.
1030353 tn?1262485688 Did it help when you quit taking the medicine. I have acid reflux and nothing seems to help me. I've watched my diet and took medicine and now I have a sore throat and a swollen tongue. I'm deeing a ENT now. Let me know if it helped to quit taking the medicine. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Tried prilosec, Protonix and aciphex. Now on dexilant 30 mg. Incredible nausea and headache. Am trying once every other day. So take in evening and next day very sick. Day after when don't take the pill feel much better but acid taste starts to come back. Why do these drugs cause nausea. Tried pepcid and Zantac and got very bad headaches. Any suggestions? Don't know where to turn.
197575 tn?1215532624 Is there a difference between a complex nodule and a complex cystic nodule? I know complex means both solid and cystic. My friend's ultrasound call it a complex cystic nodule. Thanks.
Avatar f tn pylori bacteria in the digestive tract. The irony is, if you have ulcers and take Aciphex alone, the Aciphex could make the symptoms worse. Clearly something changed after taking the antibiotics, and now your ally in heartburn control has become your enemy. It might be worth getting back to your physician on this one, since antibiotics can often be a "swinging door", killing some bacteria while making it easier for other bacteria to get through that otherwise wouldn't have.
1806721 tn?1554333407 s stop production of the acids, when u stop taking the meds, it flips the on switch and many times our system makes too much all at once and we feel the same as we did b4....this is y it is very important to slowly step off these meds and know u may have some GERD until ur body adjusts. Taking antibiotics will also affect ur GERD issues and a probiotic is a good idea, ur Dr should be able to guide u as to which one and what dose is best for u.
