Diclofenac and liver

Common Questions and Answers about Diclofenac and liver

Avatar f tn Acetaminophen can be very toxic to the liver. Taking it and alcohol together can cause severe liver damage. If you have liver disease, NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), like Advil (ibuprofen) can also be dangerous to take. Aspirin should also be taken with care because it can lower a person's platelet count. People with liver disease often experience a swelling of the spleen. This can destroy platelets faster than the body can make them. Taking aspirin will add to this problem.

Avatar f tn Supartz and other forms of viscosupplementation are not anti inflammatory medications and if your articular cartilage is destroyed or you have Rheumatoid arthritis they may not work. Diclofenac is purely a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug and it will relieve the pain till it is acting in your body. Always take it after your food and avoid taking the medication on empty stomach.
Avatar f tn I also take acetominiphen and Diclofenac daily because of pain related to several back and neck surgeries. About six months ago, I began to experience episodes in which I feel faint, over-heated, shaky and I have visual disturbance. If I eat something immediately, it only lasts about 30 minutes. I'm thinking this is hypoglycemia and I'm wondering if it has developed because of possible damage to my liver from the meds I take.
Avatar f tn I knew something was wrong. Went to the doctor and the blood lab showed really high levels of liver enzymes and bilirubin. The doctor prescribed me ursodiol and referred me to a liver specialist. I was diagnosed with Hep C 14 years ago and I did pegintron and ribavirin for a year but I relapsed. My liver levels two years ago were normal. How can this happen? I have been in Diclofenac (Naproxen) medicine for 3 1/2 months as result of a foot injury.

553516 tn?1255870819 Patients who take these medications (regularly or daily) should undergo monthly laboratory testing for the first three months of therapy and then every three to six months because of the association between these medications and liver disease.
Avatar n tn I would suggest being urgently seen by a physician. Causes can include any number of gallbladder and liver diseases - including hepatitis, medications, gallstones or other gallbladder disease. An abdominal ultrasound would be the first test to obtain - this can evaluate the liver as well as the gallbladder. A hepatitis screen should also be sent. The next course of action would be dependent on the results of these tests. Followup with your personal physician is essential.
163305 tn?1333672171 ) In fact, acetaminophen is the recommended medication for relieving minor aches, pains, and headaches in people with liver disease. However, when taken in excessive quantities or when combined with alcohol, acetaminophen may cause death due to liver failure. (!) The consumption of alcohol in conjunction with acetaminophen significantly increases the likelihood that a person will incur severe liver damage.
Avatar n tn I recently heard from one pediatric anesthesiologist that long-term use of diclofenac can cause potential liver and/or kidney problems, and this doctor ordered blood tests to test for liver and kidney function.
Avatar f tn Both of my breast have been swollen and sore and very heavy heavy for over 2 months now. I recently lost my healthcare and is wondering what is causing this misery. I am trying to set up a free mammogram. I am 39 y/o and is wondering very much is anyone else suffering from this and has been diagnosed? It is a daily issue for me right now.
Avatar n tn However other important causes are fibrocystic breast disease, ductal ectasia, mastitis(inflammation of breasts),galactoceles, benign and malignant pathologies of breasts, referred pain from liver or musculoskeletal system, arthritis of the ribs, costsochondritis and inflammation or sprain of pectoralis muscle. I feel that an examination by a gynecologist will be the best if the symptoms persist for long.
Avatar f tn Till that time, apply some warm compresses on the breasts and take some over the counter pain reliever(analgesic) like ibuprofen or diclofenac. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Avatar f tn I was fortunate the level was not that high. It was an easy cure and I'am fine, (no damage to me or my new liver), but I wanted to warn everyone about this. My doctor told me there are many foods that are being tested to see what there reaction is when Prograf is used by a transplant recipient. The new foods being tested are all citrus fruits. Pomegranate and apricots are now being studied to see if they have the same effect as grapefruit juice, (increasing Prograf levels).
Avatar f tn I was put on antibiotics for a week on day 4 and booked in for an ultra sound. I was also given diclofenac to help with the pain. Avo upper data later the pain did not get better. I went back to the doctors and they weren't sure it was a kidney stone. Occasionally pain worsened on some days. Was prescribed codeine for when I needed it. I continued having pain and was signed off work. I only had fever on day 2. Had my ultrasound and nothing was found: no stones, no cysts or swelling.
1684282 tn?1505701570 I am becoming somewhat frustrated with the way a lot of my colleagues practice medicine. Disenchanted, angry would be the other words that could be used. We all get ostensibly that same training and all of us are supposedly in it to help our patients. So, how come have I been getting so many letters lately on my addiction forum from desperate people unable to quit taking the tramadol pills that their own kind doctors have so freely prescribed for them?
Avatar f tn I use glucosamine, chondroitin, cod liver oil and ensure my diet contains oily fish. TENS doesn't work, heat does work to a degree and so I try to utilise this as much as possible, hydrotherapy is beneficial (but not to the bank balance!) and I also use swimming as a method of controlling pain (though I do suffer afterwards). So if anyone has any bright ideas be the natural remedies or prescribed then please let me know!

Avatar n tn Right now he has me on Lortab 10 over 500. He gave me gabapentin and diclofenac, then only 100 out of 120 Lortab. The first day of this mix(minus the lortab), My eyes turned so yellow that I did not want to be seen in public. My eyes never did this before. I was fine for months, no pain increase, no tolerance built, so why is my doctor being an idiot like this? He says I am on a drug dependancy type drug. As long as I am in pain, I will be dependant on something to relieve it.
Avatar n tn my breast are tender all through the day and around my nipples feels hard.
Avatar n tn please do yourself a favor, and stay away from fumes and traffic - stay away from eating high iron foods like liver and beef. eat beef in moderation if you must - NEVER cut back on your protein intake. don't neglect your chicken intake or you'll be sorry i'll post more soon...
Avatar m tn It responded to anti-inflamatory drugs like Diclofenac and hot massages. The hot water bottle helps. I have arthritis and had had pains in some rib joints before so the explanation is that when the rib joints are inflammed and you breath in, the inflamed joints prevent the chest from expanding and that has an effect on the big chest muscles located in the rib cage. This causes intense pain. Mine sometimes takes about 3 weeks to clear.
681148 tn?1437665191 I'm unable to take Acetametaphin (Tylenol) and we all know that's pretty useless for FMS pain and pretty toxic to the liver anyway. I can take NSAIDS, but I have to limit how much since I have GERD and gastritis both. So, I can't take Naproxen even as often as the neurologist would like for me to take for treating the migraines. I am particularly sensitive to many pharmaceuticals and unable to use narcotics at all, including Tramadol. I am clearly allergic to Tramadol.
Avatar n tn However, in ultrasound, my liver is a bit larger (16.5cm). I have been using Diclofenac (Voltaren) and sometimes indomethacin due to neck and lower back stiffnesss-pain for over ten years and I have stopped to take these medications since last month thought that they could harm my liver. perhaps they caused my liver larger, and I really do not feel pain and swallon liver on the upper side since I left taking these medications.
