Avatar n tn According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most effective products available are sunless tanning or self tanning lotions that contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. The tan is not a dye, stain or paint, but a chemical reaction between the DHA and the amino acids in the dead layer on the skin surface. The reaction is non-toxic and skin safe, without the potential risks associated with UV exposure. The tan is temporary and will fade gradually over 3 to 10 days.
467126 tn?1283144858 t be undesirable just during pregnancy, but at any time. DHA has been in use as a cosmetic ingredient in the U.S. since 1960 and no problems have ever been reported concerning DHA penetrating the skin, or causing problems during pregnancy. The reason the concern remains is that advances have been made in the cosmetic industry in developing ingredients that help other ingredients to penetrate the skin better. This applies not only to sunless tanners but moisturizers and other products.
Avatar m tn Hello, According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most effective products available are sunless- or self-tanning lotions that contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. Another popular form of sunless tanning is the bronzer. These powders and moisturizers, once applied, create a tan that can easily be removed with soap and water. More like make-up, these products tint or stain your skin only until they are washed off.
412873 tn?1329174455 The FDA previously approved the use of DHA as an ingredient in tanning products but strictly for topical application only. Spray tanning directly exposes you to DHA because you can inhale it and it will be applied to your face, near the eyes, nose and lip area. The dangers of DHA ingestion are largely unknown.
Avatar n tn I have tried almost every brand out there. Internet research has let me to think that I am allergic to DHA, the active ingredient in the tanners. Can't stand the smell either. Are there any tanners or bronzers out there that do not contain DHA?? I am 50 years old with fair, sensitive skin. I seem to have developed strange allergies to chemicals in the last few years and my skin has gotten very sensitive.
Avatar f tn Thx.ladies.
5049711 tn?1364572195 Depends where you go, definitely ask a doctor but I know that the one by me uses a product that's purely a DHA protein so I'm assuming its not bad but I'm gonna ask my doc too cuz I'm a pasty mofo, but you can go in a tanning bed, if you go 3 times a week for no longer then 8 min your fine ( depending on the bed), if stick with the lower beds that produce more UVB rays ( the burning rays) because they produce more vitamin d which is essential for the baby, the only danger factor
Avatar f tn Just use a tanning lotion out of a bottle. Spray tans are dangerous because Drs don't know what inhaling the tanning solution will do to baby and tanning beds are extremely dangerous in pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I had it before. Somebody told me to go to the tanning bed a few times and it will go away. I am so against tanning beds now because I had to have 2 skin biopsies (both benign) which put a scare in me. I used to worship the sun and went to the tanning bed for special occasions. I will say though it did work and got rid of the rash.
Avatar n tn Hi, my son is 11 yrs old and he is been coughing and clearing his throat for a month now and the pediatrian thinks it's just Tic and I would like to know if there any solution to it has he is tired of it but can't stop it and is not aware that it could be Tic .
Avatar f tn Im only 6weeks& 5 days, do you think its safe to use tanning beds. I have heard mixed opionions about it?
176495 tn?1301280412 sorry buddy. only indoor tanning ever messed with my sight. i have had doctor's put me on those 2 things at the same time though. never heard that it was a danger. live and learn. i hope you find a simple solution. oh, one other thing made my vision worse. passing the age of 40! lol.
438513 tn?1215703374 Could be you're sensitive to an ingredient in it. See if you can get on a brand of levothyroxine which doesn't have many fillers. I might have to go that direction too for the same reason.
867582 tn?1311627397 Holick is a PhD as well as an MD (dermatologist/professor at Boston University). He advocates brief exposure to sunlight or tanning bed UVBs. Now I understand why my "ex" got melanoma even though he wore sunscreen. Until the 1990s, sunscreens only blocked UVB rays, allowing people to stay in the sun longer and be subject to unblocked UVA rays which are believed to be one of the causes of melanoma!!! Amazing what we didn't know then!! Enjoy!
Avatar m tn She says she tried everything but I just want to get another womans idea on this issue, if anyone has this or knows of a solution. I want to help her so she doesn't worry so much about it. She gets so down when she see's other girls legs and then thinks of her own.
5076089 tn?1402504048 Has anyone experienced nonstop green BM? Is this something to worry about? I'm on Natures Made prenatal with DHA. I am 10 weeks 5 days today. I haven't been constipated just several BMs a day. Anyone else in the same boat and your OB say it's okay? Mine said I could stop by prenatals and see if it changes but totally terrified to not take them at all. She said if it were to stop I could change my prenatals... Any thoughts ladies???
12584065 tn?1436320514 So i just got a bottle of DHA 600 from gnc tonight. It also is combined with 250 mg of EPA(omega 3). Is that too much? How much do u ladies take???
1025521 tn?1252507728 I made an appointment with a dermatoligist, but it is not for almost 3 weeks and would like to find a solution hopefully before then. I do not know that this is caused by tanning or not, but it has happened twice now and always at the time that I am tanning... Please HELP! Does anyone have any suggestions on this or ever seen anything similar.
867582 tn?1311627397 I have come to terms with being lily-white in a sickly sort of way. I no longer lie in the sun, and I won't go to tanning places because to me the negatives far outweigh the positives. How I wish I could use the self-tanning creams, but I am allergic to whatever the chief ingredient is. I've turned into an itching, scratching maniac on all of them. Yikes. So now I try to think of myself as a fair-skinned beauty. Hah. But I have no other choices, so self-delusion works.
Avatar f tn The chemical solution for body chemical peels is typically comprised of a combination of trichloroacetic acid (the main ingredient in a medium-depth skin peel) and glycolic acid (the main ingredient of a mild peel). The solution for body chemical peels is formulated to be stronger than the chemical solution used for light or medium facial skin peels, though it is milder than the phenol solution used for deep skin peels.
Avatar n tn Good ones will have NO gluten and NO grains (this includes rice and corn), a good protein source (meat, fish, eggs, tofu, or poultry), green leafy vegetables, sweet potato, berries and some other fruit, fish oil (containing DHA), vitamins, minerals, probiotics, and digestive enzymes. The good food does not have to every single ingredient that I have listed, but will contain many of the ingredients. Some good brands: Wellness Grain Free, Evo/Innova, Orijin canned only.
Avatar f tn Does ur prenatal vitamins have dha? Is it ok to take them tablets with dha? The one i take doesn't have it but im trying to get gummies to substitute but all gummies seem to have dha.
Avatar f tn Okay so my current prenatal vitamin does not have Dha in it...is it possible for me to take a Dha vitamin in conjunction with my prenatal vitamin?...if so what is a good brand to take?
Avatar m tn Got up the next morning, and applied protopic again, then went to the tanning bed, because I was getting ready to go off on a cruise(i've since learned that tanning is very bad for you, and haven't been back since!). After getting out of the tanning bed, I looked at myself, and my face was a deep shade of red that I had never seen before. At first, I thought I had just gotten burned from the tanning bed, and that it would go away. Boy was I wrong.
Avatar n tn I looked up IGH on line and saw some new data on formulations for Vitilgo and IGH(hypomelanosis issues not related to fungus) I bought these compounds and it took me forever to get everything I needed because I am no scientist but it's funny how when you have something you want to get rid of you become very interested and find a way. I won't give away my secrets but there is nothing harmful in this and it is working for Vitiligo and my IGH very well.
Avatar f tn Ok so this is kinda weird. I was tired of feeling pale and sickly looking so I thought I would try going into a tanning booth. It's snowing and cold outside and I just thought it might make me feel better. Anyway when I'd finished my injunction site were really itchy and red. One of them the most resent is even a little raised and sore. It's been 5 days since I did injection. I'm on triple Therapy with victrelis.
1713150 tn?1314467342 m not sure if spray tanning is a contraindication in MS. I would call the tanning salon and ask what the dyes are made of. If it is made with vegetable dyes I don't see why you can't. I do know there are several brands on the market as my daughter goes frequently, so be sure to check with the specific salon you are going to.
