1281900 tn?1320336402 Vegetarian sources of DHA come from seaweed. DHA is essential for the proper functioning of our brains as adults, and for the development of our nervous system and visual abilities during the first 6 months of life. In addition, omega-3 fatty acids are part of a healthy diet that helps lower risk of heart disease. Our bodies naturally produce small amounts of DHA, but we must get the amounts we need from our diet or supplements.
1095404 tn?1333992839 Supplements containing EPA may not be recommended for infants or small children because they upset the balance between DHA and EPA during early development. Pregnant women should talk to their doctor before taking fish oil supplements. Fish oil capsules may cause minor side effects, such as loose stools, abdominal discomfort, and belching. In addition, they may prolong bleeding time slightly.

Avatar f tn ) No harm there but be very sure to get Fish Oil or EPA DHA (Omega 3's) that are certified mercury and contaminate free. In this arena, the latest thing seems to be Krill oil. Its cleaner, more concentrated and the capsules are WAY smaller. ;) Vitamin D should be in the normal to high normal range. Most of us MSers started out with low D levels. There again a blood test will let you know where you stand on D. I was instructed to take L-Glutamine as well.

Avatar f tn You can go to cheaper brands, however, suggest looking for supplements that have the same content as what you are buying now. If some of the supplement have less omega 6 that is ok. Research has found that omega 6 counteracts omega 3's so the more omega 3s in the supplement, the better. Hoped I helped you and not confused you.
Avatar f tn The DHA supplements r believed 2 help brain development, but they are NOT proven 2 help anything. That's what my doctor told me. I wouldn't worry so much...DHA in prenatals is a relatively new thing...take our moms 4 instance, they didn't take DHA and we're obviously fine!!
668044 tn?1225913014 I have been taking the Enfamil DHA supplements for pregnant and nursing mothers. I think it is a good idea to take them if you aren't sure you are getting enough omega- 3 in your diet.
688450 tn?1259468734 I wanted to know the same info when I was pregnant. I was taking Prenexa prenatals (which contains 250mg DHA) vitamins along with 2 fish oil pills daily. I read that the recommended daily amount is 300mgs, but that is conflicting as you mentioned. I think I was taking about 475mgs total daily...anyway, they say the asian culture eats tons of omega 3 fatty acids primarily from fresh fish and there has been no reportings of problems...other than very bright children : ) Which I hope I have!!
Avatar f tn I buy special supplements during breastfeeding for brain development and after a year old I buy supplements that you put in yogurt that are for brain development. Hopefully they make up for me not taking it during pregnancy. I normally do all three if I remember. I was super excited with this baby because I remembered to take my prenatals for about 5-6 months before I got pregnant and I was going to go buy the best prenatal then found out I needed prenatal with a stool softener.
Avatar m tn t bad for you, and there are many different ones, some of which are as good for you as omega 3 fatty acids, such as GLA. As for seaweed being a source of DHA, it is generally believed that the DHA in seaweed isn't absorbed by humans. It is absorbed by fish, which is where the fish get the DHA from in the first place -- eating seaweed, particularly red seaweed, which is usually not digestible for humans.
Avatar f tn DHA is a kind of Omega 3 fatty acid (which is usually DHA+EPA) Omega 3 s are considered really beneficial for our brain and general health..and considered really good for fertility.. they're found in fatty fish or you can take them as supplements..
Avatar n tn I heard she can take multivitamin and dha ( omega 3 ) , cassine protine, l glutamine and l arginine?!!!
Avatar f tn My doc said there was no reason to get prescription prenatals, that otc were just as good. She recommended nature made prenatal capsules with dha. The dha is important. Often Walgreen's has nature made b1g1 which is nice. You'll need everything in the multivitamin more now than normal cause baby is using up your vitamins.
Avatar m tn 85) for EPA, 0.64 (95% CI, 0.41-0.98) for DPA, and 0.56 (95% CI, 0.35-0.87) for DHA. These inverse associations were similar irrespective of HCV or HBV status. CONCLUSIONS: Consumption of n-3 PUFA-rich fish or n-3 PUFAs, particularly EPA, DPA, and DHA, appears to protect against the development of HCC, even among subjects with HBV and/or HCV infection.
Avatar f tn I take a prenatal vitamin with iron and also a DHA only prenatal vitamin. I'm 8w+2d and haven't been to my first obgyn appt yet, have that at 10 weeks. Don't know if this helps, just what I decided to do.
Avatar f tn Prenatals should make up for it. Enfamils dha pill is veggie friendly but the vitamin one is not. The one a day pill is but the dha is not.
Avatar f tn Are the Nature Made Fish oil 1200mg ok for me to take? Im taking a prenatal from Wholefoods called Baby & Me, but it has no Dha in it... so im taking fish oil, with no mercury in it... im wondering if that is Safe to take. Please help?!!
7062279 tn?1388370086 DHA is in fish oil, and it's for baby's brain development. Some women don't like fish, or won't eat it because they're afraid of the mercury content, but the DHA in capsure form is mercury free, and has a lot of really good benefits for you and baby (if you weren't getting DHA from the pills, or from eating lots of fish, baby would just take the DHA in your body and use that, but you use it too, so you'd be in short supply).
Avatar f tn ve read several articles stating that acupuncture could be used to lower FSH Levels and therefore my husband decided to go for it. He did five sessions and the acupuncturist advised him to take some tests to check whether there is any change at all in the results. My husband took the tests about 30mins after his fifth session and his hormone levels went sky high. His FSH shot up to 80, LH went up to 34, Prolactin went down to 324 and Testosterone went down to 1.6.
Avatar f tn My prenatals are called prenateDHA with quatrefolic. It has everything you need and with insurance it's pretty reasonably priced.
