Avatar n tn My father had a brain tumor removed and now has to take a nasal spray called Desmopressin. His endocranologist only wants him to use it one time a day, but the problem is he goes to the bathroom sometimes every 15 minutes!!!! He is also on 1/2 mg of Dexamethasone and that's part of the problem. Sometimes he takes two puffs a day but the doctor doesn't want him to do that daily.
Avatar m tn There is a drug called Desmopressin (DDAVP) it reduces urine production at night. But drinking too much liquid with the medication can cause problems, and Desmopressin should be avoided if you have symptoms such as a fever, diarrhea or nausea. Be sure to carefully follow instructions for using this drug. Desmopressin is given orally as a tablet and is only for patients over 5 years old.
Avatar f tn Surely a doctor could at least explain WHY he or she is refusing to look at alternatives? There is a huge doctor shortage in this province. Could just whipping out the whole gall bladder be faster to do and that's why they won't consider alternatives?
Avatar n tn Now with this shortage his doctor has to switch his oxycodone. what would help as well as the oxy with out major side effects.
Avatar f tn t mention in your question what medication you were taking. Commonly central DI is treated with desmopressin. Desmopressin works by limiting the amount of water passed in the urine. I don't know why you would suddenly notice a decrease in your symptoms after 34 years. I would recommend making an appointment with your regular doctor to see what might be causing this. Until you can be seen, it is important that you remain aware of your fluid intake and output.
Avatar n tn talk to your doctor about desmopressin, it works.

Avatar m tn Is there a medication for Diabetes Insipidus other than Desmopressin? The headaches as a side affect are dibilitating. This discussion is related to peuatrygland diabetts.
148588 tn?1465778809 Hmmm, I heard a report that the drug shortage was on meds not making pharmaceutical companies enough profit, not that the drugs weren't working. Why are the people on the bottom being asked to sacrifice while the top is making record profits? In my opinion until our values alter, away from greed, nobody is going to want to 'sacrifice' anything.
Avatar n tn I was doing alot of research last night on the shortage and I have seen that alot of people are going to the compound pharmacy to get their 30 mg. They are compounding it with ginger in the Tampa area I know and some other areas too. It seems they are expensive though at 5 bucks a pill:( I called mallinckrodt last night also and they say that the shortage will soon end.
Avatar f tn I just went to see my endo today for a 6 month check up and was told that there is a shortage on Thyrogen in the US and that I'd have to off meds for 6 weeks this time instead of getting the thyrogen injections like I have since my second scan. I simply cannot fathom going off meds again for 6 weeks. It was a horrible experience for me the first time and I simply do not have three more years to get myself back on track again after it's over.
Avatar f tn I would have to say anyone that could not see a food shortage coming as a result of all this and the rising prices as a result would have to have their head in a hole somewhere. Our water supply is at risk as well. So is it the result of our government trying to take us over? lol sorry. Nope, we are killing our planet and seems it is fighting for survival. In other words believe it or not, the bible is being fulfilled.
Avatar m tn Michigan seems to be having this problem too :\
Avatar m tn DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men). Check with your urologist about the possibility of this treatment. Best of luck.
606423 tn?1271824088 I guess they changed their formulation or something along thos lines and thats why there is a shortage. A lot of us have switched to other natural brands such as Westhroid and Naturethroid.
535882 tn?1396576685 Have you noticed any differences in the consistency of the NP tablets since the "shortage"? I had yet another shortage here last month.
Avatar f tn Do you use shaving cream?
Avatar f tn A coalition of health care groups has suggested some legislative and regulatory steps in addressing the drug-shortage crisis. Among them are creating an early drug-shortage warning system, streamlining the FDA's approval process, improving communications between stakeholders, and exploring incentives to encourage drug manufacturers to stay in, or re-enter, the market.
535882 tn?1396576685 Whats the possible problems with using 2 different brands or a combo of compound plus a brand of natural thyroid short term to get over a shortage of a brand of thyroid being available???? any thoughts on this?
