My father had a brain tumor removed and now has to take a nasal spray called Desmopressin. His endocranologist only wants him to use it one time a day, but the problem is he goes to the bathroom sometimes every 15 minutes!!!! He is also on 1/2 mg of Dexamethasone and that's part of the problem. Sometimes he takes two puffs a day but the doctor doesn't want him to do that daily.
There is a drug called Desmopressin (DDAVP) it reduces urine production at night. But drinking too much liquid with the medication can cause problems, and Desmopressin should be avoided if you have symptoms such as a fever, diarrhea or nausea. Be sure to carefully follow instructions for using this drug.
Desmopressin is given orally as a tablet and is only for patients over 5 years old.

Ok, first off-the reason why my endocrinologist thinks I don't need my ddavp pill anymore is because he said my sodium level has never went low (I think he said it gets either extremely low or high when you have diabetes insipidus). I also went for a urine test called urine specific gravity right before I take my next dose of the pill. He said it came back fine/normal-which I think ment my urine was fine without the pill.
t mention in your question what medication you were taking. Commonly central DI is treated with desmopressin. Desmopressin works by limiting the amount of water passed in the urine.
I don't know why you would suddenly notice a decrease in your symptoms after 34 years. I would recommend making an appointment with your regular doctor to see what might be causing this. Until you can be seen, it is important that you remain aware of your fluid intake and output.

today the consultant gave me tablets called desmopressin acetate. i understand they reduce urine amounts. will try but cant see them working well.

Is there a medication for Diabetes Insipidus other than Desmopressin? The headaches as a side affect are dibilitating.

I had been on Ambien for less than a year. Mostly 7.5mg a night max. When I went through vicodin withdrawal I upped the dosage to 10mg, which was my script max. I have had withdrawal symptoms galore. I got body jerks, metallic taste, no memory, disorientation, depression, anxiety, difficulty swallowing, breathing difficulty, panic attacks, vertigo, high to low BP... on and on. So my doc says my cervix is really thick. So I started taking max dose of primrose orally about two weeks ago. And then 4 days ago started doing it vaginally before bed as well. If I've thinned by Monday he will induce me Tuesday. I'll be 39 weeks ftm. What do you guys think the odds are that I've started thinning?
DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men). Hello, what was your highest dose and a big congrats on stopping... I stopped at 3 mg after 10 yrs with a max of 100 mg and my worst withdrawals lasted 10 days then eased up but no sleep and rls lasted a good month. How fast you dropped and max dose to 10 will make a difference. I tried to stop at a higher dose but couldn't. We are all different but methadone has no favors. 3 months 3 yrs it will be very hard. Hang in there it does get better....
Our five year old American Staffordshire Terrier had a dose of Iverhart Max (first time he took this) last Friday and Monday he started limping on his back legs. It has gotten worse every day. We took him to the vet yesterday (had to carry him into the truck) and when we got there I was getting ready to pick him up, but he mustered up enough strength to walk into the vets office by himself, so the vet said it was probably arthritis. Usually when Psychiatrist refer to "maximum dose" they are refering to the maximum effective dose at which any more of the drug is simply never going to produce further theriputic results.
I know it sound as if it means "max dose" as in "that's the most you can take before the danger level" but that's not usually the case.
For example if the maximum effective dose of Effexor is shown to be 350Mgs a day.
However, consistantly taking more than the max dose of tylenol greatly increases your risk of liver damage or liver failure. You are way too young to be dabbling with exceeding the tylenol dose. Liver transplants do not come by easily at all especially to those that knew they were doing themselves harm.
