Ct angiogram of chest with contrast

Common Questions and Answers about Ct angiogram of chest with contrast

angiogram

Avatar n tn Hi, I had a ct angiogram Dec 21 and my calcium score is 694. My cholesterol is 242. My doctor put me on crestor 10 mg per day. I just got the hard copy report today and my dr. is away for the holidays.... what does that score mean? I have chest pain frequently but they thought it was all in my head....
Avatar m tn If you continue to have exercise related chest pain, you can discuss the possibility of getting a coronary angiogram with your cardiologist. During this test the cardiologist can directly visualize the heart’s blood vessels and see whether or not significant blocks to blood flow exist. In the context of a negative coronary CT angiogram, this too might show that the blood supply to your heart muscle is good.
988735 tn?1249174656 Hi, I have had a prior anaphylactic reaction to contrast medium used for CT scans about 5 years ago. I was hospitalized twice for it and it wasn't any fun. I had not had any problem with the other 5 CT scans or the contrast prior to that. I know they (the imaging center) were using a new type contrast. Anyhow my question is what precautions can be used and how effective are they before a possible angioplasty.
Avatar n tn I have had a echo come back abnormal, echo bubble test them come back abnormal, then my TEE showed no PFO, had a CT angiogram with contrast pulmonary and heart. 1. Left anterior descending        CAD-RADS 3    - % Stenosis:  50-69%    - Interpretation:  Moderate stenosis  . I had soft and hard plaque seen in my LAD. ER sent me to have emergency Cath. Was prepared for stints and more if needed and coronary disease. He goes in and they said it was clear. Is this normal?
Avatar f tn Were the chest scans all CT scans or just conventional chest x-rays? If they were CT scans were they all with or without contrast dye or both? You say you had several ct scans...can you give the exact number of scans? Can you also give the time frame in months over which you had the scans? Finally, if I may ask, could you say why you were having these tests? With this info you can calculate the radiation dosage that you were exposed to and have a better idea of what risk you incurred.
Avatar f tn This revealed mild stenosis in left descending artery and advised me to do on aspirin and statins which i have been taking since last july. I had CT with contrast in august which confirmed other CT and cardiologist put me on 5mg bisoprolol which i have been taking. I feel my throat tight/tense still when waling for a while - up, straight and downhill. I wonder if this could be tension as i have suffered from this in the past?
Avatar n tn You would need a stress test or a CT scan of your heart ( 64/128 Slice Coronary CT angiogram ). Make an appointment with a cardiologist. Why do you think you have a clogged artery?
Avatar f tn I was in the hospital recently due to vertigo issues. They ran a CT angiogram with contrast. The only thing listed on the radiology report was “minimal calcified plaque in the internal carotid arteries, no significant stenosis”. Does this mean I have heart disease. Also I read that if I have any plaque in my carotids then I most definitely have it in my coronary arteries and it is probably worse. Is this true?
212161 tn?1599427282 re talking about the same thing...a regular CT scan of the chest does NOT look at your coronary arteries for plaque - the only CT scan that does is the aforementioned CT angiogram.
Avatar m tn I am 28 years old and had an ablation for SVT and wound up with pericarditis. I had about 6 chest CTs with contrast dye and at least a dozen chest xrays. They wanted to do the CT test you are thinking about. I scheduled it and went to speak with the doctor beforehand about it, because it is a considerable amount of radiation exposure. in the end, i chose not to do the test because the risks outweighed the benefits for me.
Avatar m tn ve had the contrast dye before on a different CT scan and no problems, will the amount of dye used for this affect my heart in anyway with the lopressor and xanax?? thanks so much?? I've had alot of CT's and X-rays for my age, is all this adding to my cancer risk from radiation exposure?? Should I have the test done?
Avatar n tn They did a regular cat scan of head no contrast used for that. They did use contrast on on chest cat scan they did. Heart doctor did check the heart not pumping in sync and the drop in heart rate. Only happened once during the 3 day stay at hospital. Dont think i have been tested for plasma free metanephrines.
Avatar f tn t think you have to worry. I had an angiogram with a lot of contrast to try and locate my collapsed grafted veins. They made me wait a week before I was allowed a CT scan. That was in 2008 and I have been on the angio table for over 4 hours since then. I feel no effects whatsoever. They are aware of the dosages being given and have guidelines. The only problem is if you are allergic to the contrast, but that's very rare and symptoms come about very quickly.
Avatar f tn Just a comment about going for an angiogram....can you ask to do a high speed CT scan with contrast....this is a non-invasive procedure compared to an angiogram and except for a dye reaction certainly has less risk. Provided almost as much information as angiogram. The CT scan can also give you a calcium score which may be helpful.
Avatar f tn Besides echocardiogram, can a cardiac ct angiogram also diagnose CHF? I had an echocardiogram done 2 weeks ago, but didn't get my results yet, but will Monday as well as my holter test. My cardiologist reluctantly did the echo and holter. I'm fatigued and short of breath all the time, except when I'm sleeping. My hr dropped to 61 walking to my kitchen and my o2 sat dropped to 93 for a brief second.
Avatar f tn An arteriogram/angiogram is procedure with contrast dye to establish whether or not there vessel stenoisis (narrowing) that may effect the blood supply to specific heart location. The arteriogram can be an interventional procedure (cath moved through femur vessel) or non-intervention with CT scan that takes images. What procedure have you had to determine ischemia (low blood supply) to the heart's apex of a heart wall? Do you have symptoms for the ischemia?
Avatar m tn You may want to google COURAGE study before you have a discussion with your doctor. It will give you an insight of the appropriate treatment for coronary artery disease. Thanks for sharing, and if you have any further questions feel welcome to respond. Take care.
Avatar f tn I had a workup for headaches 5 1/2 years ago which included an MRI with contrast dye and a CT with contrast dye. Would an aneurysm show on those tests if I had one at that time? (I've seen MRA's mentioned and don't know the difference between that and an MRI.) Also, are aneurysms generally slow growing/forming? Any info appreciated!
1491262 tn?1288413065 The Doctor wants to have a CT scan or angiogram taken of the coronary arteries to see exactly where the blockages are, and how large. From the results shown in those images, he will be able to decide on the best options for your husband. Once he knows the severity of the situation, he will be able to decide the best option by laying risk against benefit. For example, he may decide to continue with medication.
Avatar n tn If there are blockages, a stent implant (usually done at time of angiogram) will increase the diameter of the occlusion/occlusions permitting more blood to the deficit area. Sometimes the area of blockage can not be stented because of location, tortuous segment, too long, etc...then a bypass surgical operation may be the only remedy. Alternatively, some people find relief from chest pain with medication.
Avatar f tn I had a terrible time last month after they injected me with radioactive tracer. I went into a kind of shock state. Couldnt finish the test. I did the excercise part it showed some narrowing of mid ventricle, E.F 69%. They have offered me an angiogram or C.T scan but I am very worried about more radiation.I need a diagnosis am deteriating rapidly ,chest pain constantly and so weak cannot walk 10 meters , too tired to talk , difficulty even bathing or cooking - every thing makes me so exshausted.
Avatar n tn The link to ANGIOGRAM at the bottom of your post gives a doctor's information about an angiogram with a cath (intervention) that is threaded through a vessel to your heart. Takes about an hour and a surgical doctor will be on standby in the event there is a puncture, etc. My complaint is an interventional cardiologists is inclined to implant stents during the procedure.
