cpap

Avatar n tn Im new to this and am asking if Im doing something wrong here. I am use the Autopap unit for Sleep Apnea that I have been diagnosed to suffer from. Been using it near 6 to 7 weeks now. I have a nose cup on my face at night. But at times I feel a need to cough at 1st. Like something is tickling the back of my oesophagus. Feels like a hair but I can't spit it out and it's always their when I put the mask back on. Then when I wake my lungs hurt like Im getting an infection in them.
Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the forum, firstly you need to rule out the cause of sleep apnea. Obesity and upper airway soft tissue abnormalities are known risk factor and smoking multiplies the risk by 3 times. Even alcoholism, nasal congestion, craniofacial abnormalities, hypothyroidism, acromegaly, and adenotonsillar hypertrophy can lead to such symptoms. Hence, the above mentioned conditions should be ruled out by physical examinations, thyroid profile and other blood tests.
586101 tn?1239680323 ve tried already with your CPAP, but one great resource is a forum at the American Sleep Apnea Association. Go to www.apneasupport.org. There are lots of experienced CPAP users that have some great advice for people who are having trouble using CPAP. If you can't use CPAP period, talk to your sleep doctor about two other option which include dental devices or surgery. Not everyone is a candidate for these two other options, so see someone that's experienced, and do your research.
559187 tn?1330782856 For whatever it's worth, I have sleep apnea, MS and degenerative disk disease. Also insomnia which could be caused by pain and sleeping meds (go figure!). I saw my pulmonary specialist/sleep doc after the dx of MS and he said there is a link to MS. He wants to repeat sleep tests every two years. I can't recall what the numbers from my last study are but I'll be repeating the test soon; I feel the need to research this more. The more I read about apnea, the more concerned I get.
Avatar m tn ventricular function significantly improved after 3 months, associated with a relative 81% risk reduction for mortality or cardiac transplantation. Recently, in a randomized trial in 55 patients, CPAP therapy for 3 months improved ventricular function and reduced sympathetic activity in patients with heart failure and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
Avatar n tn There is clear and recognized link between MS and sleep disorders --- at least some types of sleep disorders and especially when MS lesions are present in the brain stem. MS can definitely cause a type of sleep apnea called central sleep apnea. I'm wondering if you have that and if it might be why you need bi-pap instead of CPAP. Do you have trouble exhaling against the constant air pressure of CPAP (if you ever used it, of course)?
Avatar n tn You are posting this on the cardiology forum, and I am not an expert on CPAP. However if you have any episodes of OSA, you are at higher risk for sudden cardiac death, and you need the CPAP to diminish the episodes of hypoxia that are driving you rbc production. But what you really need is to loose probably 70-80 pounds, as this is the cause of the OSA.
Avatar m tn They told Craig he has moderate to severe sleep apnea and needs a CPAP immediately. So it is arriving tomorrow. It is the size of a laptop computer and has a "smart card" in it that records data during the night while the person is sleeping. We then take the card to each follow up appt and they will download the information on it. Anyway, the sleep doctor was telling me that many problems could be caused by sleep apnea.
Avatar m tn Apparently I slept well at 4, but as soon as the CPAP started getting into the higher pressures, I was showing signs of complex sleep apnea, which is a mixture of obstructive and central sleep apnea. Ironically enough, because the CPAP gave me such bad results, my doctor decided to recommend a CPAP machine to use. Now here's where I don't think I have sleep apnea. When I wake up in the morning, my blood pressure is lower than normal.
603216 tn?1244710593 I will be purchasing a cpap machine next week for my sleep apnea and wondered if anyone had any tips or advice on what I should be looking for or at when purchasing one. Also does anyone have any comments on the face mask verses the nasal mask??
747266 tn?1401745317 One year ago I was diagnosed with Severe Sleep Apnea. I was given a CPAP to sleep with. The machine seems to work however there are times when I take it off. Most recently, I gave birth to premature twin girls. While I was in the hospital I used the CPAP as instructed by the hospital staff. the doctors fed my daughters every three hours around the clock. I never used the CPAP machine at this time. Eight months later I am still not using the machine. I hope this makes sense.
Avatar f tn I'm writing this in the hopes it may help someone. I've had the same curse that many of you who come to this forum have. PVC's and the destruction they can bring to your life. I'm 44...I played college basketball. I've experienced PVC's randomly since I was in 9th grade. They became consistent in 2012. That said I tried everything to fix them and I've posted here a few times on things that I "thought" was helping.
1622896 tn?1562364967 Sorry KatEyes replying late been busy but many thanks again i am on CPAP .
Avatar m tn I've been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. I also have major sinus problems. I've tried the bipap and cpap machines with many different mask and can't find anything I can tolerate. The mask is one thing, but the air being forced causes my sinus problems to increase by stopping up my nose which makes me breathe through my mouth which as everyone knows won't work. Does anyone have issues close to what I have or any other suggestions.
233622 tn?1279334905 Park could add some clarification here, if he reads this forum regularly. In central sleep apnea (as explained to me), the patient stops breathing due to causes that don't involve the closure of the airway. I would be surprised if MS couldn't sometimes, for some patients, interfere with the signals between the brain and the chest muscles that keep us breathing, as I think we've already talked about how it might be suspect in some heart arrhythmias.
712042 tn?1254569209 I'm looking for pearls of wisdom, advice and general 'user' comments on CPAP.I'm newly diagnosed with sleep apnea, and more importantly long and frequent episodes of decreased oxygen due to airway obstruction. I didn't know I had an apnea problem. I am now on day 11 of CPAP use at pre-set minimum of 5 lbs pressure which auto adjusts higher as needed. And nothing goes with this new sleep outfit! Any thoughts? Joan.
Avatar n tn I have sleep apnea and was using the cpap machine but used it only once cause i could not at all sleep with a mask on my mouth and I could not aford to pay for it. So I returned it ,but now i cant sleep and during the day at abut after 12 noon i feel really tires and headaches and very sleepy . So i take caffine pills everyday to stay awake. I know taking pills is no the answer and I should be using the machine. My question is is there any other way to cure my problem with out the machine.
1555684 tn?1294434646 Many elected surgery over CPAP and ended up STILL needing CPAP. It takes time for the medical community to get a good picture of a new treatment's long term effectiveness. I would consider the device you mention, but not for a very long time. Since weight is not your issue, you could very well have a jaw structure that is more narrow than what allows comfortable breathing once the tissues relax during sleep.
Avatar m tn His only medical history up to that point was that he developed migraine headaches a couple of years before the strokes, a history of peptic ulcer disease, and sleep apnea. He was using CPAP prior to the strokes without a problem. Since the strokes, the migraines are almost a daily occurrence (although he does take propranolol as a preventative med for them), he cannot tolerate the CPAP( we have had additional sleep studies and made changes to the CPAP without any improvement).
Avatar m tn Treatment plan is to determine the extent to which the CPAP reduces my lung pressure (am told that CPAP can possibly reduce my pressure to normal levels - is this correct and if so, what is the likelihood and appropriate time to allow this treatment to work?); then start calcium channel blockers, if advisable, after determining efficacy of CPAP 4.
Avatar f tn I suffer from obstructive sleep apnea and wear a cpap but have never experienced the issues you are having. Medhelp does have a Respiratory Disorder Expert forum and there is a Dr. on there that perhaps can give you some suggestions, just click on this link below...good luck to you:) http://www.medhelp.
572651 tn?1530999357 Sleep is worrisome to her because of this problem, and she mentioned that she was going to ask her doctor for a CPAP machine to use to help keep her airway open. Her problem is not sleep apnea, and we discussed that. This started us wondering about a general question - can CPAP be used by someone with a trach tube?
385668 tn?1301793880 I too gave up and quit cpap for a few months, but when I tried again it was with the support of a forum of cpap users. Now I am totally adjusted and forget I even have the thing on. When you read online all the negative things about any surgery it is good to take heed. However, do consider that only those who had a problem make their way to an internet forum to state their case.
Avatar f tn You may need to use a sleep aid while you adjust to the sleep apnea treatment. Once your cpap treatment is giving you restful sleep with no oxygen desats, you may find other pains improve also.
