Avatar f tn At first the machine will make you very tired but after you get used to it it wont bother you and you will be able to get more sleep
967168 tn?1477584489 I have Moderate OSA and haven't been able to tolerate any of the masks I've tried; not even a small nasal piece I tried at the hospital or dr's office. I sleep on my side propped up on 2 pillows plus 1 in front, 1 in back. I think it's because I have major ANS (autonomic nervous system) issues and the masks make me feel like I can't breathe; my HR goes up and I almost faint, as soon as the air goes into the nasal passage I start feeling weird and dizzy.
107693 tn?1252864443 s a lot of controversy about the connection between sleep apnea and hypothyroidism. We do know that obstructive sleep apnea can lower suppress your thyroid functioning, and low thyroid levels can cause you to gain weight, which can aggravate sleep apnea. It's the chicken or the egg problem. In general, by treating the obstructive sleep apnea definitively, thyroid levels can return to normal in some cases. Getting used to CPAP masks can be challenging.
Avatar f tn However, the 2 titration studies I had seemed to have been focused on apnea; the CPAP pressure used only reduced my RERAS to 12/hr hour, and the sleep fragmentation was worse than my diagnostic study. I have used CPAP faithfully for 3 months, trying every setting from 5 to 9 cm. None of these pressures restore my sleep - I am waking every hour or so and feeling as tired as ever.
Avatar f tn Treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea is by CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) where air under gentle pressure is passed into the airways keeping it patent. In the meantime you could avoid taking alcohol and try to sleep on your side as this keeps the airways patent. If any nasal blocks try to keep them patent with OTC nasal decongestants. Aim for optimum weight with exercises or long walks and walk your way to sleeping well!! Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn One of my main issues is sleeping in bed with the mask on. I have to sleep on my back because if I turn on my side the mask leaks and sleeping on my back is not normal for me as I usaully sleep on my stomach or side. I've been sleeping in a recliner but did have a good night sleep when I slept on the couch. I woke up 1 time. I tried again but had a bad night as the mask kept leaking and just slept without it.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Sorry I can't help, I have opened more to learn. If you will indulge a couple of questions: Is CPAP the mask worn at night, supposedly while asleep, that provides a slight increase in air pressure? I recall my brother-in-law using an air pump for sleeping - but he suffers from emphysema - not sleep apnea. was your apnea determined by a sleep study done in a clinic?
439553 tn?1210776816 Your sleep might be disturbed if you are still in hospital due to change in place and your routine. You can see your sleep doctor as scheduled and know your sleep study assessment. Do update on the opinion of the doctor and take care.
1622896 tn?1562364967 Sorry KatEyes replying late been busy but many thanks again i am on CPAP .
1218873 tn?1300091216 Have them call the doc - or do it yourself - if a script is required (I believe the sleep-ologist neuro has to include humidity and settings on the CPAP Rx here in the US). Then go buy a liter or two of DISTILLED water. That’s what you’ll need to fill the thing.
Avatar m tn Dcel, have you by any chance started sleeping on your back since going on CPAP? People with sleep apnea often learn to not sleep on their backs because the apneas are at their worst in the supine position. After going on CPAP, they then sometimes start sleeping on their backs because they discover they can now breathe comfortably in this position.
Avatar n tn I have sleep apnea and was using the cpap machine but used it only once cause i could not at all sleep with a mask on my mouth and I could not aford to pay for it. So I returned it ,but now i cant sleep and during the day at abut after 12 noon i feel really tires and headaches and very sleepy . So i take caffine pills everyday to stay awake. I know taking pills is no the answer and I should be using the machine. My question is is there any other way to cure my problem with out the machine.
Avatar m tn Best solution to CPAP problems with severe obstructive sleep apnea has been for me switching sides sleep on, and never sleeping on back with arms straight out to side (asphyxiation of JC). Works for me, just a suggestion. I sleep with 'mask' on R side then L side to sleep. Adjusting 'mask' is most important thing. Happy sleeping and breathing at night.
Avatar m tn As you wait for your evaluation, you could avoid taking alcohol and quit smoking and try to sleep on your side as this keeps the airways patent. If any nasal blocks try to keep them patent with OTC nasal decongestants. And aim for optimum weight with exercises or long walks. Good Luck. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Hi Dental devices are used as an option for obstructive sleep apnea patients who cannot tolerate CPAP. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends dental devices for patients with mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea for whom the CPAP is not suitable or those who have failed on the CPAP machine. The two common types of devices are the Mandibular advancement/ Mandibular Repositioning Device and the Tongue retaining device.
Avatar m tn I have a mask that only touches my face on the forehead, the tube runs down my nose and makes a u-turn to stick the nasal pillows into my nostrils. I hardly ever get air leaks, and I can sleep on either side or on my stomach, if I wanted to. All masks have an air vent that constantly blows air away from the wearer's face. My husband and kitty don't like when it hits them, but they have adapted.
Avatar n tn m reconsidering continuing to take Trazodone now that I have a CPAP and am hoping that maybe with CPAP I can learn to sleep without medication and the dry mouth due to this medication will go away.
Avatar n tn CPAP works in part by splinting the airways open that could facilitate clearance of the mucus and blood from inflamed airways, which would otherwise be collapsed when not on CPAP. Such small airway inflammation could also be enhanced in an individual with a history of cigarette smoking.
Avatar f tn i thought there may of been other alternatives but she basically needs the CPAP.. and i know its not oxygen..its pressure of air flow..obviously related to her rare muscle disease...but..we have to go and stay over in hospital to try to ensure maria gets used to using the CPAP... as right now there is no alternative... im not posting to ask a question..im just updating like i said i would...But..
Avatar n tn That's an unusual side effects, but not unheard of. It sounds like you're proven cause and effect. I agree with BoHager that maybe you should play around with your humidity settings. If that doesn't work, talk to your sleep doctor about trying different settings/models for your CPAP machine.
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm 255 pounds/30 years old. I recently had a sleep study and I won't bore you with whole report but can you tell me how severe this sounds and would you consider CPAP mandatory? My main SYMPTOMS have been waking from my sleep with sinus tachycardia and shortness of breath, as well as depersonalization and sleepiness during the day. Does the follow explain this?
Avatar m tn I need to sleep so I can cope with all this in a more efficiant way. my Dr. looking into cPAP or biPAP depending on sleep study results. Any thoughts that might help?
Avatar n tn Do you have a humidifier on your CPAP? Dry air can cause these kind of complaints.
Avatar m tn So I have found, if I sleep on my side, and eliminate the two foods which bother me, I sleep very well without CPAP. Getting your nostrils open to where you can breathe well is essential if you are going to use CPAP or not.
Avatar f tn I've been on a CPAP for 2 1/2 weeks. I'm sleeping relatively well with it, 7-8 hours per night. Almost every day since I've had the CPAP I've had headaches. The headaches don't start when I get up, but rather a few hours later in the day. Earlier this week I saw my doctor for a check up and told him about these headaches, and he said they were real and probably caused by pressure on the brain.
