My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic.
I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?
I've been taking cozaar 100mg and amiloretic for 3 months I have stopped it for 4 days now my feet ankles are swollen and I have mild headaches
I am taking Losartan, which is the generic of Cozaar. Like Benicar (which is not available in generic yet, I believe) it is an angiotensin II inhibitor.
There are usually very few side effects associated with these drugs, but their action on the biochemistry of the body is complex, so anything is possible.
I have Hashimoto's disease, which means I am HYPOthyroid. Before the Losartan, I was taking 90 mgs of Armour (which is T3 AND T4) daily.
I'm sorry to hear about your cousin, my thoughts and prayers are with your family. The only thing that I do know about Marfan's is that it is hereditary and it can lead to problems with the heart. I know that people with Marfan's are more susceptible to aneurysms and other cardiac problems. You may want to post on the autoimmune disorder board. I have seen people on there that have discussed Marfan's since it is considered a connective tissue disorder.
Plavix is to be taken with precaution in presence of kidney problems. Cozaar is to be avoided or taken with extreme precaution in CHF. This along with low blood pressure could have prompted your PCP to stop these drugs.
For a person to have an angiogram he should be medically in a condition to tolerate the procedure and the dye used. Before doing an angiogram the doctors will do an EKG, an echocardiogram and/or chest X-rays.
This is a tough situation.
I think after this month, that will be 3 months on losartin(cozaar), I will see how my blood work is then add vasotec to the cozaar wait 3 months check my blood work and make a decision on dropping cozaar for vasotec.
It was first published as far as I can see that losartan reduces fibrosis in 2000, that sure seems much to long a time lag between discovery and clinical use and I'm sure it is that way across medicine.
t have EDS, but my aortic root is at the high end of normal, and I might have some mild degree of connective tissue problem (not enough of anything for a diagnosis), but the enlarging of my aorta was completely stopped by taking max dose of valsartan (similar to cozaar (ARB)). Many other people I know w/ connective tissue problems like MFS have had the same results, or aortic shrinkage. I have not yet heard of anyone taking a proper dose of ARB and continuing aortic enlargement.
I notice that the Express Script drug I now use is made by Apotex whereas the original Walgreen brand was Cozaar. I went back to Walgreens and asked the pharmacist if there was any chance that the Apotex was inferior/impotent to the Cozaar for some reason. She assured me that could not be the case and that there could be no difference. Losartan is Losartan is Losartan.
As an experiment(with GP consensus), I doubled my dose of Apotex Losartan from 50 to 100 mg a day for one week.
I opted for the RAI (3 months ago) and I take cozaar (6 months now) and in these last 3 weeks I am suffering from muscle fatigue, muscle cramps if I stretch them too quickly or exercise them. Could the cozaar be causing the problem or is the disease the problem or both?
Mylan is the generic that messed me up. It took a few weeks before I started having problems sleeping. My levels kept coming back normal and that is why the doctor says its not the medication. The pharmacist and the drug company tell me that it is the medication. I don't know who to believe anymore. All I know is I feel terrible and cant sleep.
literature suggests that Sertraline interferes with thyroid Meds. Also taking several supplements, and Cozaar; and Ambien for sleep. Am concerned that what I am taking, or increasing anything, will cause further interference with getting stabilized. I feel like anything I try to do for myself results in adding additional problems, and it is becoming confusing and frightening.
Any feedback on this subject is welcome....
less than a week after i started synthroid i had major problems and then i switched to levothyroxine the generic and still have problems. everyone says its not the med but i was hypo for years untreated and never had any problems and as soon as i started the meds i had problems and still do. my problems are the opposite of yours.
If you are taking generic, try switching to a name brand Levoxyl.
I am certainly not an authority on the subject. I'm recently hypo after RAI. Only been on Levoxyl for 30 days.
I've heard that so many have problems with the generic that I decided to skip that part and request brand name to start with.
Ever since I got my female dog fixed she's had problems with holding her urine. At times it will just come out. She was put on a med. from the Vet. Does anyone know of a generic brand or natural one that will do the same. I can't keep going back paying office visits everytime she needs a new med.

I am already on Betapace-a channel blocker for heart problems and also have Portal Hypertension between the liver and spleen. Hope the losartan wouldn't clash with the Betapace-likely though-my luck
