cozaar and gout

Just wanted to know if losartan(Cozaar) is the best option for an alcoholic with gout and high blood pressure? Of course, the best scenario would be to completely delete alcohol out of the equation, but it is not an option at this time for the person involved.

I got on Cozaar for my tx induced high BP specifically for this reason! I had read studies about Cozaar being beneficial for ED, Fibrosis, and depression...and asked my GP to switch me from diuretic style BP drugs to the ARB class. I did notice benefits in ED function after a few weeks, and also definitely noticed a more positive mood. I am hoping there will also be an impact on my stage II fibrosis after my SVR, and will do a follow up Fibro-Sure test next year to check for any changes.

He went to his doctor and was diagnosed with gout. Since then, he only had one gout-like attack (not painful at all) on the toe next to his big one, and only lasted a couple of hours. He isn't complaining about pain or anything, thankfully.. but I am still worried about gout in general.

My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic. I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?

I noticed I had put on about 10 pounds and new I was under more stress than usual.. Lost the weight and got life under control and every thing BP wise went back to normal..

True Gout affects the joints of our body and occurs when uric acid crystals are deposited in and around the joints. I think after this month, that will be 3 months on losartin(cozaar), I will see how my blood work is then add vasotec to the cozaar wait 3 months check my blood work and make a decision on dropping cozaar for vasotec. It was first published as far as I can see that losartan reduces fibrosis in 2000, that sure seems much to long a time lag between discovery and clinical use and I'm sure it is that way across medicine.

I opted for the RAI (3 months ago) and I take cozaar (6 months now) and in these last 3 weeks I am suffering from muscle fatigue, muscle cramps if I stretch them too quickly or exercise them. Could the cozaar be causing the problem or is the disease the problem or both?

There are articles which link uric acid levels (high uric acid is associated with Gout) with HCV and interferon but I don't think that gout is a side effect of HCV or treatment. What I do think is that you need to find out the reason your foot is swelling. The swelling alone can damage tissues and structures if left untreated...which you certainly don't want to do, especially at 25. Dark urine could be from nothing more then not drinking enough fluids.

I am suffering from acute gout right now and have found many connections with hypothyroid and gout and a fair amount on its (hypo) connection to tooth decay and gum disease! Does anybody have any knowledge of these relationships? How about the tale of Lugol's Iodine on the bottom of your feet at night? Do you have to be on meds to manage hypothyroid or is iodine replacement enough?

In my opinion, experience and search Coreg is the best and main medication (with other pills) if you have low EF. Up until the EF improves like a year or more good to be on Coreg. If your doctor says not for you, ask him to explain why?

I have recently stopped taking Coreg 6.25ng and started on Cozaar 50mg to manage my blood pressure which is working out really great according to measurements. I was weaned from Coreg by taking just my dosage at night and skipping the morning one for two weeks and then to stop. Genetic's doctor spoke of two beta blocking drugs for 'aorta root dilatation'. Atenalo and Cozaar. In reading about these in pill book, I already suffer from cold spots in the extremities, kidney problems at times and several of the other nasty's listed as side effects, etc. Have a hard time keeping weight on me[130 lbs -5' 5 1/2"], low body temperature [97]. Blood pressure today-108 / 60.

I have exactly this problem. A very fit and healthy 51 year old right hand that only a week ago had a comment about my firm handshake. Now I can't shake hands, the knuckle at the top of my middle finger is sore and swollen making it difficult to both lay my hand flat or make a fist. There was no impact injury that I can think of and xrays showed nothing. I've never had gout and the only other joint issue I have is a bad knee. Any clues?

Hi ggreg and thank you for the link. I looked it up and yes, it does sound like Gout with the exception of the inflammation. I am currently undergoing tests, to do with my kidneys, as they think there may be some damage from the Diomax I was taking for two years for IIH. It does all seems to link up together,unfortunately.
