coreg or carvedilol

I got sick a few years ago and it wekened my heart. I take Coreg(Carvedilol) and Lisinopril. I still want children very badly and was told that basically, there were meds that I can take instead of Lisinopril, but I would have to stop taking Coreg. Of course, I would just have to see how I would do without Coreg... Are there any alternatives to Coreg?

First observation I know is correct, Coreg and Carvedilol are the exact same drug, except Carvedilol is the generic form of Coreg. Increasing the combination would mean over 120mg, an unheard of dosage. You are already taking a gorilla dose and that can cause a drop of EF in my opinion. EF ratings fluctuate. I'd ask for a BNP test that is used to determine the level of CHF one has. Usually less than 100 indicates no CHF.

I am active and with high a normal BMI of 25 No problem walking a fast mile or with light exercise. My LVEF was 50% right after MI and 45% 2 months later. due for another echo in 2 months. my lipids are under control - LDL < 70 and TC < 140, with or without the 10 mg pravastatin I am prescribed as I eat mostly a quality plant based diet, low in fats and simple carbs.. My question has to do with drugs. I will come off effient eventually and stay on a low dose aspirin.

Lisinopril and Metoprolol when I left the hospital, now Lisinopril and carvedilol (coreg). seems like a relatively common combination.

5 weeks ago I had a mild heart attack and received a stent in the one veinous graft (the 3 arterial grafts were perfectly clear). I have been placed on plavix and 6.25mg 2x/day of carvedilol - and the side effects of carvedilol is my concern. First is the feeling of lightheadedness, which was severe at first, but still remains.

Cardiologist understandably wants me on the highest dose of carvedilol for maximum benefit but I just cannot take the doses he wants due to extremely low blood pressure 80s/50s, dizziness, weakness. I've been on 6.25 in am and 12.5 in pm and doing just ok physically on these doses. Well last night I couldn't get my BP up so I only took 6.25 in the pm. I feel so much better today-bp is up and I've got more energy and am much less foggy.

I just got a refill of my Carvedilol (3.125mg) I take two pills in the morning and two in the evening and it has been this way since August '09. I read the side effects just out of curiosity and I had nothing better to do and what I found was, "Check with your Dr. as soon as possible If you experience cold or numb legs or feet or unusual leg pain". And it goes on to say "Contact your Dr. immediately if you experience....(lists what seems like 10,000 things)...

My cardio gave me some samples of 10 mg coreg to take once a day and a prescription to fill if the side effects from the metoprolol do not get any better. The side effects from the metoprolol have gotten a little better, though as I type this my heart rate is 52 bpm. Does any one have any comments on the pros and cons of carvedilol versus metoprolol? I'm not sure I want to switch if the side effects will be the same. Does anyone have experience with metoprolol?

They switched me to Carvedilol (Coreg) for a while, before taking me off that as well. But I did not have high blood pressure, which can be dangerous if untreated. I had much less side effects on that Beta Blocker (the Coreg), but it's still a beta blocker. And even so, it might not be the best one for you. I think toprol, of all the betas probably has the most side effects. Keep pushing your docs, there are other beta blockers with less side effects.

Then my PCP substitute it for Losartan- have been taking this drug/25 mg/ for a week and feel extremely dizzy and nauseated. The cardiologist suggested to cut Carvbedilol in half/so now I am taking 3.125 twice a day instead of 6.25 and my chest pain almost disapear.

In addition, feelings of fatigue are common with all classes of beta blockers. Carvedilol, or Coreg, has slightly more potent blood pressure effects but are otherwise fairly similar to metoprolol. Hope that this helps.

Does anyone know anything about carvedilol? How safe is it, what are the side effects? Has anyone heard of it being prescribed for tachycardia? HIgh blood pressure? I am sick of taking/switching medications, most of all I am sick of having tachycardia and believe my heart rate is just naturally higher than others' heart rates. They told me to stop the calcium channel blocker cold turkey and start the new medication, I thought I was suppossed to wean off of my current medication.

Currently, LV normal size and EF is 59%. My recovery was quick and there never has been any adjustment to dosage of coreg or ace inhibitor. The recommended starting dose of COREG is 3.125 mg twice daily for 2 weeks. If tolerated, patients may have their dose increased to 6.25, 12.5, and 25 mg twice daily over successive intervals of at least 2 weeks. Patients should be maintained on lower doses if higher doses are not tolerated.

Coreg (carvedilol) is a very effective beta blocker. All beta blockers can affect blood pressure and pulse rate, they work by controlling the adrenlin. They don't normally cause heart damage, however. Just the opposite, they improve heart efficiency. He might need a lower dose, I'm sure his doctor will weigh in on that issue. Don't under any circumstances stop taking it, one must taper off. I take the drug, and it has worked very well for my heart health.

I guess you could say that the price was also a side effect, but...We are trying the carvedilol (generic for Coreg) to see if it offers me better coverage. It is a 2x per day dosing.

She also takes a high dosage of Lisinopril and Carvedilol and it seems like she is getting weaker at times. The dosage for Lisinopril is 40mg and 25mg for Carvedilol She has been taking this medication for almost 2 years now, but now she has become weaker and is more nervous now, have anxiety attacks. On carvedilol (aka coreg) 6.25 mg 2x a day and lisinipril 10 mg a day to help protect my heart and keep my bp down from a pregnancy induced cardiomyopathy. I have some dizziness probably from both and some short term memory issues from the coreg. Wondering if anyone else has had the memory issues w/coreg, glad my dose isn't any higher.

I believe you are referring to carvedilol (coreg). That is a beta blocker that helps control an irregular heart rate and helps reduce any resistance the heart has to pump against by relaxing the blood vessels. About 6 years ago, I had a low EF and and enlarged heart (left ventricle). The enlargement was due to high blood pressure and the enlargement reduced the EF to below 29% (heart failure range < 30%).

If her cath shows enlarged heart and a lower EF, she needs to be on a beta blocker like Coreg (Carvedilol), an ACE1 inhibitor, possibly Aldactone, diuretics, needs to follow a strict low sodium diet, and try to exercise. Sometimes no cause is found for dilated cardiomyopathy. I think a complete bundle branch block would be more worrisome, and possibly you might want to wait 6 months or so before jumping into an ICD.

Granted I am well aware that doctors do not know every thing but since I never, smoked, drank alcohol, or used drugs that were not prescribed by my doctor I am quite concerned. t worry, that the Coreg will probably help. I asked him if I had Atrial Flutter or Atrial Defib and he said yes. he said right now it's OK, but it's a very serious condition and can cause 'sudden death'!?!? Doubling Carvedilol can be like a sleeping pill until your body gets used to it. Your symptoms are typical, you may also experience some weight gain. I'm guessing you had a heart attack prior to the bypass. Carvedilol (Coreg) is in my opinion a wonder drug, it can revitalize stunned heart cells surrounding the are area of dead muscle caused by the heart attack, and can improve heart function. It is typically doubled as needed gradually until improvement is seen in the heart function.
