Coreg and high blood sugar

Common Questions and Answers about Coreg and high blood sugar

Avatar n tn The coreg causes problems controlling the blood sugar in the patient, and it causes bouts of vomiting and loss of consciousness it also causes very low blood pressures, fatigue and shortness of breath.
Avatar n tn about treating the high blood pressure. (145/95). I'm having an echo soon. I have been prescribed Coreg, which has worked great the last couple months. I feel wonderful! My cardio said this medicine is also used to treat and has preventative qualities against congestive heart failure. My question is, if I'm using Coreg for HBP, is it reasonable to use long term since it is used primarily for congestive heart failure?
Avatar n tn I recently went on vacation and splurged on food - ate more than my usual portion of foods high in sugar and saturated fat. Has a temporary dip in diet quality been known to produce a temporary increase in blood pressure? I've noticed that the past few days since I've returned from my trip, my bp seems to be a bit higher, even when I'm totally relaxed. FYI - with the meds and before my trip, it was averaging around 112/60; now it's averaging 122/65. Sorry again if it's obvious. Thanks!!!!
Avatar n tn But then it's a steroid and you'd kinda expect an adjustment period. Corticosteroids cause the body to retain more salt and water. Your high blood pressure may be made worse by this extra water. And with hypothyroidism, the body may not eliminate the corticosteroid at the usual rate, which may change the medicine's effect. I couldn't find anymore details than this about it. Something else to keep in mind: your Coreg can raise or lower your blood sugar levels. solu-Medrol can raise it.
Avatar n tn It keeps happening and I go see my regular doctor who does a full blood workup to check for thyroid problems and blood sugar ect. all was fine. Wore a holter monitor and had an echocardiogram and all was fine. Still kept having these attacks and Doc put me on effexor. This doubled my misery so off I went of the effexor and was put on zoloft. Basically did not respond well to zoloft either as this would cause tachycardia. Went to see cardiologist who did EKG and Thallium stress test.
Avatar m tn Just so you know, on the maximal amount of Coreg and Lisinopril that your heart rate and blood pressure can handle, the heart muscle can get stronger and we can see the EF improve!!! I think you may have 15 years left to your heart but you need to be very careful and take all of your medications (never stop plavix again with all of the stents you have) as prescribed and continue exercising at least 30 min 3-4x per week.
1200709 tn?1265639443 my husband has been diabetic since he was 21 he was in a coma in april of 09 and just went into cardac arrest on xmas eve he is home now he is on alot of meds but tonite for the 2nd time since he has been home he got up and had to get sick got dizzy and really hot and passed out on the floor when he comes to he dont know what happens when he gets up.
315318 tn?1353255400 In addition,to these, I take insulin for diabetes, synthyroid for hypothyroidism, metaprolol and lisinopril for blood pressure, Aspirin ( 320 mg) , and Efient ( 10 mg) as blood thinners to stop any clotting in a new stent on my LAD. Once I started taking the fenofibrate, I suddenly got muscular pain, especially in my thighs and getting up a flight of stairs became difficult. I stopped taking the fenofibrate pill nearly ten days ago and the pain has subsided.
Avatar n tn I have been a Type 1 (juv. diabetic) for 25 years & have done well with it. I was a sales manager for various TV stations across the US. I decided to quit the rat race 3 years ago, move home and start a licensed childcare center. Last February I suffered heart failure and at the same time was diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Avatar m tn Thanks. I'm just living with a litte high blood pressure. How high is too high and how much money do the doctors and big pharma companies want to make.......dunno but that drives me crazy. We have been eating more veggies, trying to leave much of the fruits alone to get away from the sugar......and just let things be. The side effects of the HBP meds I had were not good.......they did control my pressure for a few months if they didn't have many side effects but then it went back up........
Avatar n tn went inside the apartment and the pain started getting worse so I took my blood pressure (160/100. . never that high), went and chewed 5 baby aspirins and my husband took me immediately to the hospital (I could see the hospital from my balcony)-he drove me because it was less than a half a mile and we would have had to wait a long time on an ambulance. Went into the ER and told them I was having a heart attack. . .the nurse told me "no, you're not. . .
Avatar m tn They have me on metoprolol 200mg/day , cardizem 240mg , clonidine 0.3mg, and coreg cr 40mg to try and control it. However whenever it's not happening, i feel HORRIBLE. LIke I've just run 10 marathons in a row and can't even get out of bed (this is after I'm just waking up btw). Can anyone tell me what else I can do? I don't smoke or even drink more than 1 cup of coffee anymore. Everytime I have an episode I get this raging migraine that makes me want to take a hammer to my head.
943601 tn?1245488295 Last month, I am a diabetic and was diagnosed with HSP. I now taking very high doses of predisone 60mg bid. This dosage has been reduced to 50mg bit. I am finely down to 40mg bid. I am very concerned about damage to my week kidneys due to the very high blood glucose levels > 400 at times. I have been controlling it with a sliding scale using Humalog Quick Pen. How fast does the ill-reversable damage set in? My medicine has been change from enailapril to coreg. Biopsity shows nothing.
Avatar m tn On at least 3 occasions now I have had moderate chest pain episodes that seem to coincide with high blood pressure. I am currently on coumadin, coreg and lipitor. In one case I did go to the ER and everything checked out, blood test was fine, nothing on my CT. Just this weekend it happened again, I was doing moderate work around the house, my chest started to hurt, my blood pressure was running between 95-100 on the low end.
Avatar n tn I didn't really have a diagnosis for PVCs until about 5 or six years ago when I went to the doc for a normal physical and he found my blood pressure a little high. That's when I told him I was having skipped beats on a pretty regular basis.
Avatar n tn They may be mysterious, inexplicable, difficult and even painful. But they are right. My mother received tainted blood years ago and now she is in her final days of liver cirrhosis. The last 36 hours I would never have been able to deal with this experience had it not been for the six month I was able to take care of my husband.
Avatar n tn I personally have increased my dose of BB by 50%, and my BP and HR went high and was chaotic for awhile, until the autonomic nervous system can become stable again. I am 56 and I would LOVE to decrease my dose of BB which is Coreg CR, but unfortunately I can't. I have fairly bad side affects to BBs, such as fatigue, exercise intolerance, increased cholesterol and blood sugar, not to mention some embarrassing ones....
Avatar n tn A few weeks ago I had a blood pressure of 60/56 could barely function, had to go to ER, came to conclusion, that I did have a high blood sugar through the night and due to the urinating through the night, caused me to be low on body fluids and due to taking the coreg I had the very low blood pressure and irregular heart beat. Concerned due to the vomiting and the diarrhea it causes, I will experience complications.
Avatar f tn Mind you, I am just a RN, but 19% EF after having 45% in february? The surgery should not be decreasing EF and certainly not that much. I am glad the stents helped. Fatigue and generally "feeling bad" would be expected with that EF.
712042 tn?1254572809 After 2 ½ years of problems ( mainly shortness of breath on exertion) and after many interventions and tests which were all negative, including two left and right cardiac caths, I was referred to Emory University Hospital interventional cardiology. I underwent another cath as a way of a diagnosis by exclusion. They were pretty confident of the diagnosis they were to confirm.

Avatar f tn I am also on simavastin (zocor) even though my total cholesterol at time of heart attach was 164. I have done some investigating as to why my blood sugar readings seem to be so high and find that Carvedilol (coreg) and lisinopril can cause increases in blood glucose. Are there any other drug(s) that can do the same job as Carvediloland lisinopril and keep my blood sugars under control. I feel I am fighting a losing battle. Oh, I also eat a low carb high fiber diet.
Avatar f tn Other then that things were fine for years, my Blood pressure was normal and life was good. Eventually my blood pressure started slowly climbing again and I tried to increase my dose of toporal slowly, but I began to have a feeling in my throat shortly after taking the meds that I had a lot of mucus and needed to clear my throat. I also began to get dizzy.
Avatar n tn - exercised often but not regularly - my blood pressure was 130/80 - my total blood cholesterol was 164 - LDL, HDL and blood sugar were in normal ranges, however, my doctor did tell me that my tryglicerides were slightly elevated The only contributing factor I can think of is that my grandfather (on mom's side) died at age 65 of a ruptured stomach aneurysm and my mom had a brain aneurysm in 1992 which was caught in time.
326176 tn?1239519289 millimoles per liter (mmoles/L). If your blood glucose is high, it will have a very negative impact on your recovery. You need to ask about increasing your insulin, if that is possible and follow a strict diet. This trauma and possible blood glucose given to you while you were in the hospital could have caused an exponential increase in your blood glucose.
Avatar m tn i am only 34 years old,i have normal blood pressure and cholesterol. i have never smoked or drank or done drugs. i have not been eating the best foods, but i feel like i am way too young for this. i had a chest x ray for shortness of breath and the doctor noticed some calcification of my aorta. then i ended up getting a ct angiogram which showed a lot of calcification of my LAD artery throughout. now,why is that?
Avatar m tn doubts anything otc could have produced the damage I now have. I am now on coreg and Ramipril. I see him again in 3 months and we are going to retest the echo and stress test. From what I have written, is my longterm prognosis/outlook look ok? How long can I live with an EF of 30% ? I do not need anything sugar coated. Blunt, truthful answers. I keep reading conflicting ideas and opinions.
Avatar n tn 4. and has been prescribed lasix 10 mg, coreg 10 mg., and potassium. She has had some relief from the medication and can now sleep fairly soundly with less discomfort from shortness of breath. The ejection fraction of <10% seems very low and I wonder if she shouldn't be hospitalized. Is she in immediate danger of heart failure? Her cardiologist said she would admit her if she wanted to and my wife declined.
Avatar n tn this should be followed over time and if it doesn't improve soon, medical therapy to control your blood pressure and blood sugar is indicated. (6) Does Coreg cause the feeling of not being able to keep up with exercise? Like something is working against me, pulling back. . can't reach the heart max.? It can make people feel tired or sluggish. I hope this answers your questions. Good luck and thanks for posting.
