Avatar f tn s Colitis. As I had stopped prednisone to go onto budesonide, I had no protection in the colon, hence the flare. After leaving hospital (where I was on holiday in Florida) I saw my gastro in England and asked for methotrexate, oral at first 25 mg a week, now for the past 6-7 yrs weekly injections of 12.5mg. Doing very well, and although there can be serious side effects such as liver toxicity and disruption to the bone marrow, I am monitored monthly and have no problems.
Avatar m tn Have you tried saline sinus rinses like the neti pot? There isn't much blood flow to the sinuses which is why antibiotics don't always work. This helps to flush out the sinuses of whatever is irriating them and helps the cilia (the little hair cells that help to move mucous through) heal and work better. It has helped immersely for my allergies and greatly reduces the time it takes for me to get through a sinus cold. I use the neli-med system that is available in co-op and walmart.
Avatar f tn Thanks so much for the comments. Its good to know what meds work. Q: Does the dr. give you Budesonide when your having a flare up or do you take it like Asacol on a regular basis to control Crohn's? I'm so afraid to take prednisone again, I didn't like how I had so many side effect with it. I have been hearing a lot about Methotextrate (thats what you meant by mtx, right?) All the things I have heard are good. Q: Do you take mtx on a reg. basis?
Avatar m tn He developed diabetes and pancreatitis and had to be hospitalized for 10 days! We have now switched to 1mg of Budesonide a day to help with the inflammation and to try and bring the diabetes under control, we are giving our cat 1cc of insulin a day and we have switched his diet to Nature's Variety Instinct brand of cat food in the rabbit formulation.
Avatar m tn The prednisone is giving your body cortisol, so I'm not sure if you'd still have low cortisol while on it. How long have you been on Synthroid? That kind of fatigue sounds like the typical debilitating fatigue from hypothyroidism. Thinking maybe you haven't been on Synthroid long enough to get the full benefit or, if you have been on it for a while, perhaps you need to be on a higher dose. I happen to be someone who didn't get great results from Synthroid.
Avatar m tn I took Primatene mist for asthma 2 months back but my doctor asked me to stop using it and prescribed PREDNISONE, ALBUTEROL inhaler and BUDESONIDE and I have been taking these for past two months. My tests came negative. My question are 1) Is test conclusive? 2) Does medications mentioned above cause false negative? 3) It was 8 panel test which includes Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HSV 1, HSV 2, HIV and syphilis. All except HSV 1 came negative.
Avatar f tn Prednisone takes hours to convert as well, so if you took it at six and tested at 9, it was not fully converted to a usable form. This is why you can't use prednisone for a crisis and need hydrocortisone. Check out a steroid calculator. Prednisone is not my favorite replacement for this reason... So your family has Conn's? Or a pheo?
Avatar f tn After a few days of suffering side effects and getting much worse I went back to the doctor and he confirmed that I am allergic to budesonide, which he said is quite unusual. He prescribed me atrovent but from what I understand it is usually a substitute for ventolin not steroids. He directed me to take both atrovent and ventolin 2 times a day for a month but I don't really have a long term treatment plan. The doctor seemed a bit stumped as to what else to do.
Avatar m tn Last year I was hospitalized with Stevens Johnsons Syndrome(SJS), which left me with chronic dry eye and chronic bronchitis although I did not experience any obvious respiratory symptoms. Prior to that I was absolutely healthy and played sports and worked out fairly regularly. After a few months recovering from this, when I started strenuous exercises i.e. running, sprinting, I felt my chest tightening up.
1137036 tn?1263515995 What do you think, is it likely the sinus infection moved to my ear tubes, should I try prednisone or steroid nose spray or both? Any ideas, other thoughts? It is difficult to explain all this to the Thai doctor with the language differences, but I will tell him for sure about the throat clearing that started 3 months ago and ear pain now.
Avatar n tn Hi i am having throat tightness everyday for 15 years. I am regularly using Ventloin, Fomertrol+budesonide and Motelukast+LC. The only problem is breathlessness arising from throat tightness. I never wheeze in the life. The throat tightness is getting reduced when i take Ventolin. The doctor say i don't have to take ventolin beacause Fomertrol+budesonide and Motelukast+LC. will prevent the difficulty. But only medicines which seems to be working is Ventolin and Motelukast+LC.
Avatar n tn Over that period I have tried different combinations of Prednisolone, Budesonide, Salazopyrin, Singulair and Colpermin, all with limited success. Presently, I am taking Budesonide (9mg daily) and Salazopyrin (150mg daily). Whilst this allows me to function normally (i.e. normal bowel movements) I have discomfort, bloating and cramping all day, every day. Has anybody ever come through this disease to lead a normal life, or has anyone treated a patient that has done so?
17080824 tn?1453552185 t take any form of drugs. and do not smoke, do not drink and I am a vegetarian. Yes I am inhaling Budesonide Powder to tackle with chronic cough issue. Is it the reason then ? Thank you doctor for your reply and suggestion.
Avatar f tn My husband just got diagnosed with emphysema and sent home with steroid inhalers and no instructions on what to do with them. Or even which one to use when. All he knows is not to take both at the same time. And he is already skipping doses because he doesn't know if there is a need. Its Advair and Symbicort. I am hoping they will send him to a pulmonologist who might be more forth coming with info. He probably just has a mild case and I'd like to keep it that way.
776872 tn?1247938680 Prednisone is a "rescue therapy" - i.e. it is used to help bring an acute flareup in control. Depending on dosage and length of use, it can cause multiple side effects, including weight gain, insomnia, mood swings etc. If you don't see reduction in frequency of bowel movements or amount of blood, check back with your doctor - you may need higher dosage or other meds in parallel. Note Crohn's is unsolved, so best the meds and docs can do is try to control it and its symptoms.
Avatar n tn Sorry to hear of your needle stick. We'll get straight to your questions. 1. Neither the azithromycin, nor the decadron would delay production of HIV antibodies. 2. At nine weeks, an HIV antibody test would be expected to detect 99% of persons who had acquired HIV 9 weeks earlier. 3. The 12 week test will add very little. As you can see from the answer above, less than 1% of persons who have gotten HIV will develop positive tests between 9 and 12 weeks.
Avatar m tn I've had a terrible headache that comes and goes, but has been burning throughout my face, top and sides of head for over a month and nausea for the past two weeks. Generally, the worst attacks or "flare ups" as I can best describe them occur first thing in the morning when I get up and at night time.
Avatar f tn I have to agree a slower taper will be much easier on her also better to monitor her response rather than put her system into a rapid reduction, only reduce by 1/4 at a time not 50% that's way too fast, and any Vet would/should be in agreement with that. Plus get an inhaler ASAP, she does need to have this for emergencies if nothing else.
Avatar n tn We have taken our son to a pediatric gastro for one year. We are still unable to get answers. He has had a colonoscopy, endoscopy and cameraoscopy. He originally was diagnosed with H-Pylori and was given two rounds of antibiotics. He started feeling almost 100%. That was 5 months ago. Symptoms are back and he is fatigued, nauseous, and is unable to go to school. Throughout this last year he has lost weight. Our Dr. says maybe Crohns, maybe not. The only med he has done well with is Creon.
Avatar m tn s a human supplement but safe for cats. Comes in powder form, needs to be mixed with some water to make a gruel than give by dropper. Called slippery elm bark, I buy the NOW brand from iherb.
Avatar n tn that has always helped mine, It almost sounds like a pancreatic flare up which happens when they are not used to the fat in their diet. metronidazole / flagyl SHOULD be short term and it shouldn't hurt.
Avatar n tn Under normal conditions, cells continually convert about 40% of T4 to T3. They convert about 60% of T4 to reverse-T3. Hour-by-hour, conversion of T4 continues with slight shifts in the percentage of T4 converted to T3 and reverse-T3. Under normal conditions, the body eliminates reverse-T3 rapidly. Other enzymes quickly convert reverse-T3 to T2 and T2 to T1, and the body eliminates these molecules within roughly 24-hours.
Avatar f tn FDA Pregnancy Categories The FDA has established five categories to indicate the potential of a drug to cause birth defects if used during pregnancy. The categories are determined by the reliability of documentation and the risk to benefit ratio. They do not take into account any risks from pharmaceutical agents or their metabolites in breast milk.
Avatar m tn The thing with oral steroids is that the get absorbed in the body and have been adversely affecting me. I need to get off it, but every time I try to reduce the dosage my asthma tends to get worse. Can anyone offer me any advice regarding this matter?
