You could use acetaminophen for headache, eat a light diet, light activity around the house, avoid alcohol etc. Concussion with brain damage needs hospital care. Full recovery is expected in an uncomplicated concussion. The symptoms may continue to occur weeks to months later. Take care.
Your headache most certainly is a tension headache as you have rightly mentioned. I would suggest you to make some lifestyle changes if applicable and see if it helps you.
Make sure you eat healthy and on time, exercise regularly, sleep for at least 8 hrs in the night. Avoid caffeine, smoking and alcohol if applicable.
Do some breathing exercises and meditation. You can also try acupressure therapy.
Your headache will go away with the exercises I suggested on July 14, 2008 on this thread. Try it seriously for 11 days, just to feel the benefit and then continue until the health is back to normal.You can do it yourself everyday, without the need for classes.
You might want to see if you can find a neuropsychologist who using neurofeedback I have used to help with my post concussion syndrome and I have read about people who have had strokes who used it and benefited. If you are interested here is some links to info about neurofeedback:

The way people describe this varies according to personal expression, but it is usually best described as an expanding sensation behind the forehead as if the brain is growing larger with nowhere to go. Well we decided on a wim to try but that ment me going off my headache medication. I have a cronic headache that is controlled by Amitriptyline, 10 mg I take before bed. I have been taking this medication for over 15 years. My doctor said when we decide to start a family that I must go off it, that it was just a matter of stop talking it. Well I knew I had to stop taking it and we decided to not use any protection anymore and I would go off the amitriptyline.
I've never broken bones and I've never gotten a concussion so that wouldn't be the cause. I have gotten hit in the head sometimes but never to the point of unconsciousness or a concussion.
Does anyone know if I'm dying or if I should be like immedietly going to the hospital or something,or if I really don't have to worry about it and it's normal?
I'm perfectly fine in everything else and feel fine and well and normal and everything.
I think it's a migraine-type headache too, but apparently brought on by a concussion from a few months ago, which I did not even think of when I posted this. The doctor didn't give me any medication and said it would eventually get better, just take advil. I have not had another headache, fortunately.

I did realize that there is also fiornal WITHOUT codeine.....but unfortunately, for me, I think it's the codeine in combination with the other medications in the fiornal that help me with the daily tension headaches. Bad for me! You're right though, I think that perhaps just the fiornal alone is NOT addicting (harder to get addicted to just aspirin, a little caffeine, and that other thing that's in it). Typically the following day I start getting immense fatigue and a constant mild headache for days. If I take motrin, the headache may go away, only to be there when the dose wears off. If I push it and continue working out, I will begin getting random bouts of vertigo lasting a couple seconds at a time. During all of this, my head feels like it is vibrating, I can be light/sound sensitive (which makes me short/grumpy.
However when I had a concussion about a year ago I had a lot of head pain, not a real headache, head pain. Hydrocodone didn't touch the head pain but oxycodone did. I think each of us respond differently to different medications. I also think that different types of pain respond differently to different pain meds. Just my thoughts.
So for the rest of the night I had this headache feeling but not your usual headache. FOr about 3 days after that, I had a constant headache which would worsen when i did anything active, even so much as getting out of a chair would raise the pain level.I went to the doctors and he thoguh it was post concussion injury, BUt i never really got hit in football or anywhere, which i would even consider having a concussion in the first place.
I slept and slept when i got home, when i was awake i stayed flat on my back and drank a lot of water or caffeine, slept a lot in the first few days. I didn't get a headache of any kind at all, the only pain i had was when my bandage patch was ripped off, now that hurt and stung for longer than the LP.
(anti-inflammatory, painkiller, nausea medication), which stopped my headache within minutes. I was given Fioricet on my first ER visit (2 weeks ago) and took it for one week. It took away the headache, however, I have to drive a lot for work and it made me very drowsy and dizzy, and each day I needed more Fioricet to control the headache (started with 1 pill per day, on day 7 was taking 1 pill every 4-5 hours).
It is a combo of Aspirin, Tylenol and Caffeine and that happens to be an excellent combo for migraines.
5. I mentioned caffeine before...well, drink coffee, Mt Dew, take Vivirin...sometimes a mega dose of caffeine will stop it in its tracks.
6. If you get nauseous or dizzy get some Meclizine from the pharmacy (the stuff behind the counter) you can take 25mg three times a day as needed. Yes it works on both.
You also just need to take it easy. Lighten your daily load as much as possible.

Last year I had a spell at work and passed out at my desk, I had been having these spells for a while (6 months) and this day at work I woke with the worst headache of my life. I took some Tylenol and went to work, at my desk I had a spell and thought this one was a strong one and then woke to firemen around me. I have seen 2 neurologists, ENT(I have nasel polyps), sleep specialists, my regular MD and have had countless tests and all show I'm normal.
sometimes I would have a welling-up of emotion and I would cry, and there were a few times that my face or forehead was a little sore from it, but I never got a headache or anything really bad as a result of it. I've hit my head accidentally MUCH harder in the past and never had symptoms like this).

I was diagnosed with a nummular headache by a nuerologist. It truly is a coin shaped headache that is constant, and is on my temple. It is a pain that is always there, and unfortunately, there is no cure. Sometimes the pain is worse than other times. I was prescribed Neurontin for the pain, and have seen some improvement. I also get regular migraines, and the Neurontin is supposed to prevent those as well.
I'd get dizzy, and think I needed more vitamins or sleep, or less caffeine. There were quite a few others, but you get the idea. The more I learn about CM, the more I realize there were warning signs for much longer than I thought.
And as Shannon said, we find out some of the strangest things seem to be in common with other Chiarians, one being the walking on the toe thing (or putting more pressure on the ball of your foot).
This sounds like a Primary Exertional Headache.
This is like a Primary Cough Headache because it accurs as a result of increased pressure to the head, particularly if the exertion is from lifting weights.

About 5 yrs ago I lost my balance and fell off a ladder working on my home. I suffered a slight concussion, no broken bones or anything, recovered fairly quickly. About 6 mos. later I had a severe attack of vertigo. No headache, so dizzy that just moving my body lightly caused me to vomit. Lasted about 4 days, went away completely. Aprox. 6 mos. later same thing happened again, just as severe. Went to the doctor, thought it was sinus infect. or something. Got med. , It went away.
Late this spring while planting my garden after only 3 instances I had a whole rush of weakness fatigue etc and headache that took 2 hours in a chair to go away. This is when I called the Dr to draw more attention to my issues. I'd started seeing him in march with a list of various symptoms I'd had for varying lengths of time and being my first visit only a couple were pursued, namely my respiratory issues, chronic constipation and chest pain.
WELL, on the Monday she stopped, having cut back to one a day since the previous Friday, she was nauseous, achy, awful headache, shaking, tons of mucous and hot/feverish, and could do little more than drag herself to classes (in college) feeling like she was 'dying' and curling up in bed in between.
