Hello Danni! The symptoms you've described are something I've been experiencing as well. I am a 35 yr old male that has been smoking since i was about 19 yrs old. About a little over a month ago i was checked into the ER experiencing pretty much the same symptoms you described; the diagnosis was that i had asthmatic bronchitis. Its pretty hard to stay away from cigarettes, but that is a must if you wish for those symptoms to go away.

I would see your Dr and get a script for any type of athma med vs. self-medicating. Could be something ventolin might be able to help, but may need more or less and only your Dr can really help you with this . ... it's hard online . WELCOME to our Asthma Community!

Dear All, My son is three years old, sometimes he has a constant cough and I use for him 1ml combivent and 1ml pulmicort in the nublizer, these days combivent is out of stock, can i use pulmicort alone and what is the recommended dosage. Please advise.

I have been using Combivent for about a month together with Asmanex to treat my cough-variant asthma and have had pretty good results. However, the first inhalation of Combivent always triggers a major coughing spell (sometimes it's so severe I almost vomit or my ribs hurt). Are there other bronchodilators that might be easier to inhale and still be effective? Or would using a nebulizer help? I've heard there can be adverse side effects with a nebulizer.

I use this new combivent inhaler 4 x a day so how long does one inhaler last and how often does it get refilled.

Yes, it feels like I don't need the combivent regimen since I started the flovent. I use the combivent mainly before exercise with 02. . Unfortunately my insurance is minimal and I only get to see my pullmanary doctor who proscribes these meds, once every six months. my chest gets heavy off and on throughout the day I take Combivent Respimat 20-100 MCG/ACT IN AERS, Levalbuterol HCL 1.25 MG/3ML IN NEBU 2X a day before Advair, Singular 10 MG PO TABS, Advair Diskus 500-50 MCG/Dose in AEPB 2X a day, Qvar 80 MCG/ACT IN AERS 2 puffs 2X a day for my severe asthma and I do get relief from the Combivent only to have the chest heaviness come back hours later.

I mean I am a respiratory therapist and I developed asthma. However I never sounded wheezy on auscultation. So when I tried getting ventolin and a corticosteroid my doctor didn't believe I had asthma. He keeped saying I had anxiety. Of course I looked anxious.....I had trouble BREATHING!!!!. I ended up stealing the vetoiln from the depatment. The ventolin helped but I really need a corticosteroid for the inflammation. It was so chronic and I could not even sleep on my back.

Advair and Spiriva is a common combination of meds for COPD patients. However, you should also have a rescue inhlaer containing some form of albuterol. Combivent is another option used by many COPD patients. It contains albuterol and ipatropium. Combivent may be off the market in the US though as the EPA has banned the use of CFC's propelants in inhalers. I don't think they were able to reformulate this medication to fit these new laws.

I am worried about the availability of Ventolin inhalers. Some months i may need to use more than one Ventolin inhalers based on my asthma triggers. Will it be a problem to get 2 ventolin inhaler prescription per month in US.

If you are having troubles with your ventolin not working .... don't be stupid like me. Get a new one and see if it helps. recently diagnosed with COPD/emphysema. hospitalized three times: finally determined that i'm allergic to sulfate based albuterol, combivent, all of the usual "suspects." i'm now on advair (one week= 115 ) and doing okay - except the only rescue inhaler i can tolerate is primotene mist. just took an oximeter test - came out 86-87. i think it's too soon to go on oxygen, until we see if advair works. but i worry about the advair too.

Unfortunately with asthma you cannot treat it without inhalers and medication. Ventolin is going to be the best immediate action inhaler to help open your airways - it is a fairly safe drug and worth it. You MAY need other medications to help lower your overall inflammation which is the cause of asthma symptoms.
