Clopidogrel drug class

Common Questions and Answers about Clopidogrel drug class

plavix

Avatar f tn I had an MI in July which was treated with angioplasty and 5 drug-eluding stents. I was prescribed 75mg Plavix and 81mg. Nothing about getting my blood levels checked was ever mentioned. I understand this is necessary if a person is on Coumidin but do not know if it is needed when on Plavix. Does anyone here know?
Avatar m tn New data show that when clopidogrel and omeprazole are taken together, the effectiveness of clopidogrel is reduced. Patients at risk for heart attacks or strokes who use clopidogrel to prevent blood clots will not get the full effect of this medicine if they are also taking omeprazole.
690060 tn?1247841741 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has new data showing that omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC)—a medicine used to reduce stomach acid—reduces the anti-blood clotting effect of clopidogrel (Plavix) by almost half when these two medicines are taken by the same patient." "...Patients using clopidogrel should consult with their healthcare provider if they are currently taking or considering taking omeprazole, including Prilosec OTC" but then, there's also this: http://www.
Avatar f tn I suffered a mild stroke (blood clot) Consultant prescribed Clopidogrel but cannot tolerate side effects. Then consultant prescribed Dipyridamole. I cannot tolerate this either. Severe headache, vomiting and diarrhoea. Has anybody got a different medication they are on?
214864 tn?1229715239 with clopidogrel which has major implications for the millions of patients currently taking the drug. Plavix, the brand name of clopidogrel, is the world's second largest-selling drug, with annual sales of $5.9 billion. The study also may impact the concerns over late stent thrombosis that have significantly reduced the use of drug-eluting stents over the past year. P. Michael Ho, MD, PhD and John S.
Avatar n tn Warfarin (coumadin): Because of the increased risk of bleeding, the concomitant administration of Warfarin with Plavix should be undertaken with caution. (See PRECAUTIONS - General.) At high concentrations in vitro, clopidogrel inhibits P450 (C).
Avatar n tn If a patient has drug eluding stent (DES) implant it is recommended that plavix (clopidogrel) be prescribed up to a year to help prevent blood clots with the implant. If one has A-fib there is a risk that blood clots can occur as blood may pool due to the very fast beat. Information regarding the use of the 2 anti-platelet together can present a problem and the source is MedinceNet.com.
Avatar f tn s like if I want some Clopidogrel (another form of anti platelet med) I could ask for either Clopidogrel or Plavix, Plavix is the brand name the drug company trades the medication under.
Avatar m tn It has been my understanding from what I have read and my experience, plavix is recommended for individuals that have a drug eluding stent to help prevent clots for up to a year. That has been my experience. DES when compared to bare metal stent implants have an increase of clots and restenosis for a period of one year...after that time the risk is very low and plavix is no longer of any benefit and the patient is on aspirin indefinitely as with the BMS.
Avatar m tn At 18-month follow-up, there was no difference between patients with a drug-eluting or bare-metal stent in cumulative rates of death or myocardial infarction (MI). However, after clopidogrel discontinuation patients receiving drug-eluting vs bare-metal stents experienced higher rates of death and MI (4.9% vs 1.3%, respectively). These results have created uncertainty regarding the minimal necessary duration of antiplatelet therapy after drug-eluting stent implantation.
Avatar m tn I would just keep to the medications prescribed and eat a healthy diet. The Clopidogrel is important for the Stent and the drug coating on the stent will help to inhibit the formation of scar tissue.
Avatar f tn If you’ve already had a heart attack or stroke or are resistant to the beneficial effects of aspirin, your doctor may suggest supplementary aspirin therapy with another clot-preventing drug, such as clopidogrel (Plavix). Clopidogrel may even be suggested as an alternative drug therapy, particularly if you’re allergic to aspirin or can’t tolerate its side effects." Maybe someone will be able to add a thought or 2. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn My cardiologist is pressing me to shift from asprin+clopidogrel to warfarin. He says I have chances of getting a clot in damaged section of heart (anterior) and warfarin is more effective. For last two yesrs I am on asprin+clopidogrel. My EF is 35% due to MI in 2007. Anyone who has experience and/or information on above, please advise.
482754 tn?1341791494 If so can you tell me about any side effects? I had an Everluminous drug eluding stent placed in the right coronary artery in May of this year and was placed on plavix and aspirin therapy. I've had no problems since the placement except for a severe allergic skin reaction which the dermatologist thinks is from the plavix. I know that Effient has recently been approved in the US as an alternative, but is it more expensive than plavix and are there side effects?
Avatar n tn I am asking for a friend. Is there an alternative drug to cumadin, for example, plavix?
Avatar f tn Based on the level of risk, most patients are either started on aspirin or Warfarin (Coumadin). Clopidogrel (Plavix) is an anti-platelet agent and acts via a different mechanism than coumadin does (coagulation pathway). Adding Clopidogrel to aspirin is a guideline that holds a Class 2b (see below) recommendation, and usually considered in those in which Warfarin is unsuitable due to patient preference or physician's assessment on a patient's ability to safely sustain anticoagulation.
Avatar n tn It is recognized drug eluding stents reduce restenosis compared to metal only stents, but there appears to be an increase in thrombosis (clots). The following is from FDA dated 2/1/08. The issue of clots with DES remains unsettled for length of time with clopidogrel regimen, and evaluation should be patient based and doctor's judgement.
Avatar n tn after a stent inplant how long must clopidogrel-winthrop be taken my heart attack was caused by cholestral which now a 3
1346447 tn?1327862572 ClopivasAP150 is a combination of anti-platelet drug clopidogrel and blood thinner aspirin. If there is an internal bleed, and this drug is continued, then it can worsen the bleed. Depending on the location of the bleed, an increased bleed can become life threatening. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar n tn Aside from the expense and the risk of bleeding posed by the long-term use of this drug, using clopidogrel (because of the pronounced bleeding tendency it causes) essentially precludes any invasive medical procedures whatsoever. The drug must be stopped for several days prior to any such medical procedures, and some cardiologists are now very reluctant to allow their patients to do so, for at least a year or two after the DES is implanted.
Avatar m tn Which is better anticoagulnt from rivaroxaban and clopidogrel for stroke prevention. My grandmother had stroke 6 years ago and she has atrial fibrilation. So far she used clopidogrel as treatment but her new doctor perscribed medication with rivaroxaban (but it is far more expensive) ?
Avatar n tn My cardio prescribed Deplatt Cv (Ecosprin 75 mg,Atorvostatin 10 mg, and clopidogrel 75 mg and I am taking since May this year. Actually i was diagnosed with Transient Ischemea in the year 1977. I have taken intially for about 35 years ASA 50 (Acityle saclyilic acid) and then from 2005 to 2017 april , Ecosprin AV 75 mg. Now I am taking Deplatt cv .
Avatar f tn Several components of the DES could be responsible for the hypersensitivity reaction. These include the polymer coating, the drug (rapamycin for CYPHER and paclitaxel for TAXUS), or the stent itself. Of particular importance for the clinician is the hypersensitivity reaction to the commonly prescribed thienopyridine antiplatelet agent clopidogrel (plavix), which occurs in 5% of patients.
Avatar n tn s heart valve and a pacemaker and they were taking the medication clopidogrel for 7 years and then stopped taking it for a few months, could there be any ramifications?
