Avatar m tn However as the oral HRT does not suit you, other medicines are available for dealing with hot flushes like clonidine. Consult your Doctor regarding the same. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar n tn Have been getting what they call Hot flashes for over 1 year, mine our Hot Events as it last for days not minutes, I have been using an estogen patch that has been working for 6 months, now it back to happening just like at first every 1 -2 weeks for 1 full day and night, sometimes almost 3 days. I don't know what to do. My gynocologist says i am on the highest dose of the patch. don't know what to do.
Avatar f tn I'm almost 60 years old and have been experiencing severe hot flashes for years. A couple years ago I was put on 0.05mg Vivelle-dot patches. I'm still having the flashes. My forehead, especially, sweats a lot wetting my bangs completely! Would going on a higher dose of Vivelle stop the hot flashes? I want to keep on bioidentical-type remedies and wondered if something else included/instead of would do the trick. I'd greatly appreciate help!

Avatar f tn Hi there, I am tapering down from methadone, was at 130mgs two years ago, and am currently at 41mgs, now tapering 2mgs/ week. I know this is a low and slow taper but still I am not feeling so great. I keep getting hot flashes, nausea and going hot and cold, it's uncomfortable. My methadone doctor suggested clonidine for these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it and I was wondering if it helps much, and is it worth even taking? Thanks for your responses...
Avatar m tn I am 95 days off methadone, and 15 days off Norco. I took clonodine for hot flashes. I had the patch for over a year until I figured out that my unrelenting rash and itching that my doctor called stasis dermatitis due to lyphemdema, was actually an allergic reaction to the catapress patch. I've been on the pills now for about a year or so. Time gets away from me.
Avatar f tn I am already starting to get withdrawal symptoms which surprises me as this is not really a small dose. I am going hot and cold and getting hot flashes and really nauseous. My methadone doctor told me that clonidine will help these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it. I was wondering if I should start taking it, I am so uncomfortable. I know this is a slow and low taper, is it worth getting it?
Avatar f tn I have been using the estrogen patch (Vivelle dot .1) since my surgery and have had no problems with hot flashes. However, for the past 8 months I having been getting hot flashes every now and then. Is this normal? When I mentioned it to my doctor, he just said I was already taking the highest dose the patch comes in and didn't like the idea of me using the oral kind. I'm just wondering why this would start after so many years and if anyone else has experienced this.
518001 tn?1212419235 I'm new here and wondering what's helped each of you with your hot flashes? I'm currently using Effexor and Progesterone Cream. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I was having mild menopausal symptoms of hot flashes about twice a week, prior to removal of my right ovary due to a large endometrioma 10cm. Since then I have had severe hot flashes whereby I'm soaking wet more than twenty a day and sleeplessness.because of night sweats. I am taking effexor and estroven over the counter with minimal effect. Its been 5weeks since the surgery.
Avatar f tn My doc says Effexor and Clonidine will help flashes. I do not want to take Effexor, and Clonidine may lower my blood pressure too much since I am already on two blood pressure meds. I will try the Evista and if get flashes again, I may just stop. I read magnesium helps, so I tried. It did help quite a bit, but unfortunately, if you take enough, you get diarrhea. Some choice. So if anyone knows of other alternatives for flashes, please post.
Avatar n tn I was an emotional wreck, sweats, hot flashes, stomach etc.... Does clonidine help with the mental at all? Is it addictive? Am I to far along in the process to start it? Meaning the worst is behind me? I have really been looking into Suboxen because I do not want to relapse. The thing that scares is me I would be trading one addiction for another and I dont think my case is severe enough for it.
Avatar f tn I regretfully didnt use clonidine or anything else when detoxing (I am an idiot and would have done it differntly this time).. but from what I understand the creepy crawlies, hot/cold flashes are peaks and valleys in your BP - mostly spikes in your pressure. Clonidine is a very old and reliable blood pressure medication. Taken short term it is supposed to help the skin bumps, hot/cold flashes by controlling your blood pressure. Its also known to make you very sleep (an added bonus I guess).
Avatar f tn This should settle down when the body gets adjusted or you can take recourse to medicines like clonidine which help with the hot flashes. Also the option of HRT is available. The decision can be taken in consultation with your Doctor. Hope this helps. Take care and good luck.
Avatar m tn Oh I am taking norco 10/325, probably 7-10 a day. But now cut it down to vicES 6 a day. So did the clonidine help for sweats n hot flash? I was thinking bout stopping in a day or two. I still have a prescription for norco but just wana stop n c if I can take the pain. This will b my 2nd wd. I just didn't wana it to be bad as the 1st. I'm lil scared. Just wana to be lil easy the the 1st. When did u start the clonidine?
Avatar m tn I was on hormones for years and my doctor, who is from Canada, put me on clonidine and it has been a miracle drug for the hot flashes with almost no side affects. Clonidine has also been used to reduce menopausal flushing, to treat postherpetic neuralgia, to treat ulcerative colitis, and to diagnose pheochromocytoma. Clonidine may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
Avatar f tn I have been taking clonidine for the side effects of the hot flashes, and I must say, it helps quite a bit. It also works like a sleeping pill for quite some time, and that is very short-acting. Clonidine is not the same as Klonipin, and which is a sedative. Clonidine is a high Blood pressure drug but used for a variety of other causes. (I started out with .1 mg and am now taking .2 mg) it;s very cheap also, and I thought just worth mentioning, as I have never heard this mentioned anywhere.
Avatar n tn after my hysterectomy 2 years ago i have hot flashes and night sweats it is severe i have tried everthing at the wal mart pharmacy over the counter nothing is working im going crazy pls help me on wat to do
Avatar n tn I am 51 and began taking Effexor XR 75 mg as prescribed by my physician to help reduce the hot flashes. I've taken this same level of Rx for 3 years. It has helped to reduce the hot flashes, however, I have other side effects that concern me. I am now trying to wean myself off the Effexor and the side effects are significant (vertigo, confusion...) and the hot flashes seem worse than ever! Is there anything I can do to reduce or eliminate these without antidepressants?
198154 tn?1337787265 Clonodine is a blood pressure medication that helps immensely with leg cramps and those hot/cold flashes, it will also help with the anxiety and some other w/d symptoms like insomnia. Just make sure you watch your blood pressure is all I'm asking. Be safe. You will only need it during the acute w/d phase....the first 2-4 days in most cases. Also, if you get 0.1 mg tablets, I would recommend that you only take 1/2 at a time.
Avatar m tn This has gone on for almost 7 years now and while their severity has lessened some, I still experience hot flashes at least once an hour during the daytime and every 20-30 minutes at night. I have tried all the soy-based products, black cohosh and a prescription drug for blood pressure that my doctor said may help with hot flashes but none of them had any effect at all. After 7 years of hot flashes 24/7, I am at my wit's end.
Avatar f tn Can I ask what you are WDing from? That might help. I have found that Lyrica (a med for nerve pain, fiber etc is great for this. It is not a narcotic medication. Also, a hot bath helps for a short amountnof time. I can handle the other symptoms of WD but this is the worst! Good Luck!

Avatar f tn I am now on Soy Isoflavones - 40 mg daily and it has minimized to making the hot flashes disappear. Most people take more than that dosage but I seem to do very well on low doses.
Avatar m tn Hi, I'm in my late 40's. I have autoimmune disorders, one of them thyroid. I also have spinal cervical stenosis with cord impingement. I was given 15 mg. oxycontin straight 3x a day for a long time, then reduced my dose and changed my narcotic to percoset 7.5 3x a day. I have high blood pressure but am on clonidine for this. I am healthy, my labs are all normal.
