I have two failed implants due to infection which did not respond to Clindamycin. I also got a bad reaction to Clindamycin a feeling of big lump in throat, sore throat and severe heartburn. In spite of the fact that I drank at least 10ounces of water with each pill.
My question is since I'm allergic to penicillin. What antibiotic is effective for teeth and gum infections????

I was prescribed a ten day course of clindamycin for a gum infection, which it took care of. Six weeks later I developed severe diarrhea with terrible gut pain and fever. Had blood and mucous in stools an perhaps some intestinal lining. I lost 10 lbs and was very weak and the thought of food made me feel sick.. Emergency room diagnosed clostridium difficile after stool samples and CAT scan. I was put on a 14 day, 4x/day course of oral solution vancomycin which solved the problem.
My dentist uncovered the implant and did a bone graft over the top of the implant where the infection had eaten the bone away. He soaked it in clindamycin and I took clindamycin orally afterwards.
Six weeks after that, I started feeling bad again. My dentist put me on another round of clindamycin coupled with metronidazole. A 3D CONE x-ray showed that there was infection behind the top of the implant. This time, I had an oral surgeon uncover the implant and clean it out.
The pain is in the gum around the tooth all the way into my jaw. I have been taking clindamycin four days now. I cannot feel an absess. Could this just be a tooth infection?
The next day I was in pain, and the pain continued to worsen, including some pretty severe jaw pain. The dentist adjusted the bite, then assumed it was infection, so put me on 10 day penicillin. Nearing the end of that, I developed swelling on the outside gum, the dentist put me on 7 day clindamycin. The swelling has decreased, the pain is nearly absent, but with 2 1/2 days left of the antibiotic, I have been feeling "twinges" in the tooth.
I have been on clindamycin 150mg 2 every 8 hours for 4 days with a gum abscess. Its still hasnt come to a head yet, and very painful , I can feel a heart beat in it.Was wondering how long will it last. And is there any way to make it come to head. Had mini dental implants put in 3 years ago with 4 up top ,, and the gum abscess is right on top of it .
Second, about a week before the incident I had a root canal and because of a gum or tissue infection in the area of the tooth I had been on Clindamycin for about five days, would that lower my chances of getting oral ghonorrea or would the prior infection raise them? Finally, there were no visible sores in her vaginal area so I know this lowers the Herpes risk, but does my being diabetic raise it and if I had gotten HSV 1 or genital type on my mouth how long until sores would appear.
I had waited through toothaches for almost 3 years to get this root canal done due to fear, but once I saw a giant fistula form on my gum above the infected tooth, I finally decided to get it done. I had the procedure done in one sitting completely under IV sedation. I came home confused and went straight to rest. I was prescribed Vicodin and Clindamycin. I forgot to take the Climdamycin for the first two days, but picked it up immediately on day three.
I've been on antibiotics 3 X, every time I'm done, infection comes back, even after tooth extraction. Please see details below, I need your opinion. Thank You...
Started with Left sore throat, then Gum Pain & hard white painful bump near #17 wisdom tooth. Got severe, hard to swallow, chew, painful. My reg. Dentist Rx'd Amoxicillin - took 6 days to start working. After swelling went down,did x-ray, he could not find any problem -tooth not abcessed.
m getting lower right jaw pain where I can feel a bump forming underneath the molar when I run my clean finger along the gum line that is tender. Lost my job 2 months ago and I'm seeking another. Meanwhile I applied for the Maryland exchange program and dental services do not cover root canal treatment. Trying to see what I can do apply for Care Credit but not sure if I'll be eligible as I do not have a job at the moment.
i am going back to the gum the next time i can get away from work, but no one has been able to tell me what kind of infection this is or what kind of treatment will work. i would think it was only bv but the doctor said that it was an infection of some kind. so what kind of infection cannot be cured with all these antbiotics?
I had *graft material* placed in an extraction site to facilitate bone for an implant. This was done July 23, 2009. Last month I had a painful lump appear on my inside gum at site of former tooth #11. I was out of state from where my periodontist is located. I had a prescription for Clindamycin with me and started taking that on the second day. The lump ruptured and drained. Returning home on the fifth day after beginning the antibiotic, I went to my periodontist for an assessment.
I had a root canal preformed 3 1/2 weeks ago on a molar, with a crown, for an infection but not fully abscessed. This was not my first root canal so when I began excessive swelling within 6 hours after I knew something was not right. My Endodontist saw me that next morning and removed the temporary filling to allow for the infection/pus to escape. 4 hours later I was even more swollen and it the tissue became hard.
has given me 10 days of clindamycin to be taken 3 times a day at a dose of 450 mgs. this is fine, i can take clindamycin with no ill effects.
HOWEVER, i have read that this drug is not commonly used to treat std's as there are so many better options. Is clindamycin going to work??? Thanks.
Recently I have been going through a series of physical ailments, starting with a gum infection, to going to herpes appearing on my shoulder because of stress (that's what I have been told), and now, a few things regarding my urinary system that have been present for roughly 3 weeks. I mentioned the other ailments because I have taken medication for them (Clindamycin for the gum ailment, Aciclovir for the herpes).
Monday I had an RC on infected upper molar. Everything felt much better by Tuesday night. Wednesday I went for crown prep. When the dentist was drilling, I got a whiff of the same putrid odor that was there when endo cleaned out roots. My dentist didn't seem concerned, went ahead with composite fill and temp crown. Had intense pain agian Wednesday night after rinsing with H202, but that got better Thursday.
t want to treat me or even consult them on if it was safe or okay to give me more antibiotics or pain medication. So I did. Hospital gave me 300 mg 4x a day clindamycin for the infection but said I would have to see a dentist for something for the pain. I can barely eat or sleep and at this point I'm almost ready to rip this tooth out myself because I can't get any relief.
The smell is bad and I have been doing oil pulling to help pull the pus /infection out.
The affected area of my face give a white smelly liqued. By mY doctor I use adapalene Microspheres+ Clindamycin Phosphate, Gel Deriva-CMS Gel & Benzotl Peroxide Creamy Wash 4% after 25 days of using this medicne the doctors change the medicne and now i am using Accare Gel , Adaplene & Clindamycin Gel with Doxycycline Hydrochloride capsules I.P.. on present dtd. 04.02.
Seeing an oral surgeon to eliminate the source of infection is advised. Although clindamycin is narrow spectrum antibiotics, it is highly effctive for bone infection.
On my left upper side, it was excrutiatingly painful, the gum around the tooth was swelling, there was pus/blood, and excess saliva. Never having experienced this before and not having a family dentist I went to the ER where they said, not a Dentist but a regular MD, the tooth was absessed. I was started on Clindamycin and told to take Advil for the pain. This was Sunday, today is Wednesday and I have been taking the anti-biotics regularly every six hours.
05%(base), i also just started using Fougera Clindamycin Phosphate gel USP, 1%(equivalent to 1% clindamycin. i have been using the first one for past three month twice a day and it is almost having no affect. the area is increasing and i m afraid it will get bigger and it is. what should i do? any recommendations on what i should use to get rid of it? can you recommend any medicine/cream??

I've taken Clindamycin and fluconazole to kill a yeast infection. But now my doctor tells me I might possibly get it back because antibiotics can cause yeast infections. I'm not even sure...
On 1/17/06 I had a RCT done on tooth #10, as well as an incision in the roof of my mouth behind that tooth to help extract the infection. On 1/19/06, I had a RCT done on tooth #20, with one 0.05mm post placed. I have been on Antibiotics since 1/13/06, taking Penicillin VK 500mg QID, so I'm now on my Eighth day of antibiotics. I am sore, but not badly, and not bad enough to warrant pain meds, however, I am running a fever around 100, which was not present over the past few days.
) On the other hand, would I endanger my health by taking the Clindamycin after so many other recent antibiotic courses (including 16 days of Clindamycin in September)?
