my 77 year old husband was tested for active TB but the lab results came back as mycobacterium abscessus. he has shortness of breath, weight loss and lots of mucus. what would be a starting treatment for his condition? are there any other treatments before the tygacil IV twice a day for 2 months ? our doctor did not give us much information ( and of course, we did not ask what we should have done.

But here is my question. I ended up with a respiratory infection and the Doc gave me Clarithromycin, I have to take 2X 500mg a day for ten days. A different doctor changed my prescription from Doxy to Clarithromycin, as I work outside but told her I am managing the sun well as I cover up thoroughly. Well I am not even working that much during meds as they drag me down so i can certainly get away with Doxy.

He had some left over clarithromycin 500 mg about 10 days worth and he began taking that. I told him he should just get tested but he dosent have insurance currently and is unemployed. A skin test was done and it was very positive (20 mm +), however I do not sweat or show other symptoms beside a chronic cough and shortness of breath (so they don’t think its active TB….active TB would show those symptoms with weight loss etc etc). Due to my age (26), non-smoker and pretty healthy, they are thinking latent TB for the time being, but more tests will need to get done. I am also very nervous. Hope its latent TB and not lung cancer.

Hi, I was diagnosed with a sinus infection a few weeks ago and prescribed a z-pack, which I took with no issues. I am still feeling the symptoms in my sinuses so I went to the Dr last week and was prescribed Amoxicillin. About 20 mins after taking it I had this strange sensation on my lip...like a tingling/itching feeling and became itchy all over. I called the Dr and she prescribed Clarithromycin. I didn't want to take it right away, just in case I had a similar reaction.

s been well over a month since I stopped taking Clarithromycin (sp?). As soon as I stopped taking it (and even a few days before), I was having tenderness in BOTH sides, not just my GM (left) breast. My first thought was definitely that it was starting again. But after a week or two of tenderness and shooting pains, it just stopped. My breast is almost normal again.

t mean you have TB, but at some point in your life you have been exposed to TB. Usually, a positive TB test is followed up with a chest X-Ray to confirm that you do not have TB. Being exposed to TB does not prevent you from working with the elderly, but having TB would. Hope this helps.
