Avatar m tn Clarithromycin isn't the treatment of choice for any STD. However, it would effectively prevent most cases of gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, or nongonococcal urethritis (NGU). But not all. Antibiotics, including clarithromycin, have no effect on viruses and therefore cannot prevent herpes, HPV, or HIV.
Avatar f tn So, had brief encounter with sex worker. I am a male and she a female, just for clarity and accuracy of response though I'm confident that this is irrelevant. In any case, I received oral sex lasting only a couple minutes then shortly after completed with handjob. Anyway, that night I had extreme regrets as this not something I regularly do, only once before. So in my anxious state, I thought it best to be proactive and see if I could prevent any full infection from developing.
Avatar f tn As fas as I know, nexium (esomeprazole) only interferes with biaxin (clarithromycin). It heightens the amount of esomeprazole by inhibiting the degradation of esomeprazole. Macrobid is nitrofurantoin, not clarithromycin. You may also look here: http://www.ehealthme.com/drug_interactions_side_effects/Nexium-2792078.

Avatar n tn erythromycin, minocycline and sulphamethoxazole) has demonstrated poor efficacy and high relapse rates. (Tigecycline is a derivative of Minocycline – see previous) Clarithromycin is active against most strains of M. abscessus, and current expert opinion recommends clarithromycin monotherapy for localised cutaneous disease, and combination therapy including clarithromycin and parenteral agents for treatment of disseminated infection, pulmonary infection or extensive cutaneous disease.
Avatar m tn But here is my question. I ended up with a respiratory infection and the Doc gave me Clarithromycin, I have to take 2X 500mg a day for ten days. I started the medication the day of the sexual encounter. Will Clarithromycin help clear up any of the STD's that I might have caught during the act? There is not too much info on Clarithromycin and STD's out there. I know one thing it is sure working on my respiratory infection big time. Thanks for your responses!
1138687 tn?1548643978 A different doctor changed my prescription from Doxy to Clarithromycin, as I work outside but told her I am managing the sun well as I cover up thoroughly. Well I am not even working that much during meds as they drag me down so i can certainly get away with Doxy.

Avatar m tn He had some left over clarithromycin 500 mg about 10 days worth and he began taking that. I told him he should just get tested but he dosent have insurance currently and is unemployed. Avatar m tn prescribed the triple therapy which consists of Lanzoprazole 30 mg, Amoxicillin 500 mg and clarithromycin 500 mg. The problem is that she told me to take only one pill of amoxicillin (500mg) every 12 hours but it was supposed to be two pills (1g) according to FDA and other resources. I am very concerned because I know that this bacteria becomes resistant to antibiotics. What should I do?, How long do I wait before I take another test to see if the bacteria is gone or not?
577106 tn?1219839345 t know if this is were I should be posting this question, but there are no forums for MRSA or staph so I took a chance. If I need to be in another forum please let me know and I will look there. On to my question..so is MRSA curable? If the bacteria shows sensitivity to an antibiotic is the antibiotic more likely to kill the germ? My problem is I have read on the internet and been told two different things, yes it can and no it can't. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I also had MRSA and have just found out that I am a MRSA carrier although, I am not infected at the moment.I also have RA and take 7.5 mg of Mexotraxate one time per week. My new orthopedic surgeon called my RA doctor and said hey, need to back off the Mexotraxaate and ALL steriod shots until the foot has healed. My RA doctor concurred. Now, the Orthopedic surgeon was okay with me taking the Medrol which is "Tablets contain methylprednisolone which is a glucocorticoid.
Avatar m tn About a month ago I was prescribed a course of Clarithromycin for a skin infection. Since taking the drug I've suffered huge surges of adrenaline, which kicks in like a lighting shot at the point of sleep. It kept me away many nights and I was beside myself with worry. It's now more than three weeks since I stopped the medication (I only completed 2.5 days out of 7) and I find that the adrenaline surges have subsided somewhat.
Avatar f tn does that mean he will have re occurring mrsa forever or is it just that he has some of the bodies that are found in mrsa on him? Any advice please? Also surely if he has mrsa here is a high chance like myself and partner now also have it?
Avatar f tn Sparky, behavior issues aside, I am struggling with the thought he has MRSA and is not being treated. I have an acquaintance who had a 4 year old girl with MRSA, and the girl was hospitalized and her home quarantined until it could be disinfected. I don't mean to ignore your concerns about his behavior, but I'm just overwhelmed that it doesn't seem he's being treated for MRSA - has he been treated yet and supposedly cleared? Best wishes.
Avatar n tn not finishing antibiotics will only make the MRSA resistant to whatever antibiotic your daughter used! I should know...I have MRSA. If you want more information please feel free to contact me. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnost with herpes type 2 and i was wondering even with a test done can it be mistaking for MRSA? i did have a case of MRSA in my arm pits as well as a few of my family members with whom i live with, i did not take any anti biotics because it kinda went away on its own. i later found out that its pretty hard to get rid of MRSA. But at the same time i dont experience any itching or burning in the genitalia area and i am aware that it can stay dormant.
Avatar n tn MRSA can be spread by alot of means, but it really depends on where the MRSA is colinized in the person. There are a few ways to get this, and if it is in the nose, mouth, or something like that sure via phone would be a way to get it. The best pertection from this is washing your hands. If you notice you have touched something they have had wash your hands. Also hand santizers are good. You could also ask the person that has the MRSA if they were decolinzed.
Avatar f tn Hello, in 2005 my mother was diagnosed with MRSA due to drainage from a back surgery and one day she woke up not feeling good and when we got her to hospital MRSA had invaded her entire body and my mom almost died. However the MRSA caused her to loose her ability to walk, control her bowel and bladder and it destroyed the nerves and after having MRSA, she constantly got infections of other kinds.
1237007 tn?1267979222 Schiano, Rene has been admitted twice to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital with pneumonia (the first time) and now, with MRSA related lung condition. He is being treatd with Vancomyzion and Zofyn. Naturally this compromises his transplant, but I am very worried about the implications in terms of him being able to fight this off, and get better for his transplant. We have a living donor who is very close to getting the go-ahead from the team.
Avatar f tn health-care facilities, (presumably) including hospital nurseries,[24]were infected or colonized with MRSA.[25]Children are more susceptible to MRSA because they are more likely to exhibit minor scrapes, cuts, bruises, and insect bites than adults. Children (and adults, as well) who come in contact with day-care centers, playgrounds, locker rooms, camps, dormitories, classrooms and other school settings, and gyms and workout facilities are at higher risk of getting MRSA .
