Avatar m tn Clarithromycin isn't the treatment of choice for any STD. However, it would effectively prevent most cases of gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, or nongonococcal urethritis (NGU). But not all. Antibiotics, including clarithromycin, have no effect on viruses and therefore cannot prevent herpes, HPV, or HIV.
Avatar f tn So, had brief encounter with sex worker. I am a male and she a female, just for clarity and accuracy of response though I'm confident that this is irrelevant. In any case, I received oral sex lasting only a couple minutes then shortly after completed with handjob. Anyway, that night I had extreme regrets as this not something I regularly do, only once before. So in my anxious state, I thought it best to be proactive and see if I could prevent any full infection from developing.
Avatar n tn Hello, I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be rosacea. Treatment options vary from antibiotic creams, antihistaminics, sun screens to laser treatment.A dermatologist’s evaluation will be the best. Hope it helps.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, My mom was recently diagnosed with Hep C associated cirrhosis. She has had some complications, including esophageal varices and ascites. She remains fairly well compensated and does not exhibit symptoms such as fatigue or confusion. During an endoscopy her doctor also noticed an ulcer and tested her for H pylori (which was positive). He's prescribed Prevpac to kill the bacteria and heal the ulcer.
Avatar f tn [16; Female; 5 '8; 136lbs] So to keep this short, I have red cheeks. It's been present for all of my life and it's one of my main insecurities. No other redness is apparent on my apart from my cheeks. No bumps, veins, and burning on them, it's just a solid, smooth redness that fades near my mouth and somewhat in the middle of my cheek.
Avatar n tn m allergic to Penicillin and Sulfa, I just finished taking Doxycycline for a week and feel better. Thanks for the information.
Avatar m tn Having diarrhea after antibiotics is not rare, but also not normal. I recommend you to have stool test for C-diff and for occult blood. Having problems with breathing is probably from the acid coming up into your throat and then down into lungs. You should fix this promptly, it may damage your lungs (aspiration pneumonia, with lung scars). There's another possibility - alergy to one of antibiotics. Would you say you have any lips or face swelling or skin itching?
Avatar n tn //www.facedoctor.ca is a helpful site for the treatment of rosacea.
Avatar f tn As fas as I know, nexium (esomeprazole) only interferes with biaxin (clarithromycin). It heightens the amount of esomeprazole by inhibiting the degradation of esomeprazole. Macrobid is nitrofurantoin, not clarithromycin. You may also look here: http://www.ehealthme.com/drug_interactions_side_effects/Nexium-2792078.
Avatar m tn You have likely read this but for others who may read this later: Causes: Experts are not sure what causes rosacea. The following related factors are thought to contribute: Abnormalities in facial blood vessels: Skin specialists (dermatologists) suggest that abnormalities in the blood vessels of the face cause the flushing, persistent redness, and visible blood vessels. What causes the inflammation of the blood vessels is still a mystery.

Avatar f tn You can use tacrolimus ointment for this after consulting a dermatologist. Using this rosacea often resolves the itch, redness, and tenderness of steroid-induced rosacea in 7 to 10 days with twice daily application. Complete clearing of steroid-induced rosacea usually takes 1 to 2 months. Sometimes clearing takes a bit longer. Avoiding rosacea triggers, such as caffeine, spicy foods, and alcohol, also may help clear the skin.
Avatar n tn ), weather changes, sun exposure, exercise, alcohol consumption, emotional upsets, and spicy food may trigger blushing and aggravate rosacea. The symptoms of rosacea generally tend to come and go. The skin may be clear for weeks, months, or years and then erupt again. Rosacea generally lasts for years. The medications that you are receiving are alright for the condition and you would definitely see some benefit with these.
Avatar n tn (Tigecycline is a derivative of Minocycline – see previous) Clarithromycin is active against most strains of M. abscessus, and current expert opinion recommends clarithromycin monotherapy for localised cutaneous disease, and combination therapy including clarithromycin and parenteral agents for treatment of disseminated infection, pulmonary infection or extensive cutaneous disease.1,11 Many isolates of M.
Avatar m tn Clarithromycin (Biaxin in the US) is chemically similar to azithromycin (Zithromax), one of the standard drugs for several STDs. Although it has not been studied extensively against STDs, it undoubtedly is effective in either treating or preventing all the infections that respond to azithromycin. In the dose you were give, you were protected from chlamydia, nongonococcal urethritis (NGU), gonorrhea, and probably syphilis.
Avatar m tn Hello. From what you describe, I'd recommend that you contact your family doctor as soon as possible. He/she can help you find a dermatologist to investigate your concerns. Your description does indeed sound like rosacea, and I was diagnosed with it when 27. But you also describe what might be some other conditions. Acne and seboric dermatitis can also occur with it. Plus you might have an infection; I once had a staph infection on my nose. Infections on the face are serious.
Avatar n tn t find thick eye mucus anywhere listed as a symptom for Ocular Rosacea. I have recently started using Latisse and it seems to be helping with the swelling of the upper eyelid, but not with the itching and mucus. Could this be Ocular Rosacea? Is Latisse used for treatment of Ocular Rosacea?
Avatar m tn Hello, What you have is called steroid induced rosacea. Steroid induced rosacea or dermatitis is an adverse effect of using steroids. Some patients develop steroid-induced rosacea within weeks of applying a topical steroid; others may not experience it for years. Using tacrolimus often resolves the itch, redness, and tenderness of steroid-induced rosacea but it should be taken after a dermatologist’s guidance.
Avatar m tn During treatement I have suffered a lot for high redness of the face, recently the Derm doc told me this is Rosacea, I am taking Rozex gel for more then 1 year now, the redness improved but still exist and I have flare-ups from time to time. Recently I noticed that Sylimarin (milk thistle) can help with Rosacea. I took Milk Thistle for about 2 years before treatement and stopped it while I was on treatment. My question - would it be ok to take Milk Thistle now ? Can it cause any problem ?
Avatar m tn Every derm I spoke to uses it and downplays the black box warnings. I still use it every week but less for rosacea and more for some sporadic bouts of seb derm. Here's the basic regimen that works for me after much trial and error and two handfulls of derms. I don't do this anymore daily unless I have a flare. Sometimes now I will go for weeks using nothing but when things were bad, or I had a flare, I would do it daily. Wash face gently in morning with Cetaphil gentle cleanser.
Avatar m tn I had rosacea for many years - they say there's no cure. Well, I went on a gluten free diet (for other reasons) and my rosacea disappeared!!!!! All the usual triggers had no effect on me when I was gluten free. It won't help everyone, but maybe you'd like to give this diet a try. Hope this helps!
