I took 1500mg of Clarithromycin ER, and 1875mg of Amoxicillin that night. The following morning took another 1gm of the Clarithromycin ER & 1375mg of Amoxicillin. Still on Day 2 (only 24 post exposure) took 500mg Clarithromycin ER. The next day, today took Amoxicillin 500mg & Clarithromycin ER 500mg & Ceftiaxone 1gm IV (prefer not to explain but I am in healthcare).

Hi auntiejessie, I got tested for syphillis, hepatitis and HIV on the 10th day of my exposure but the doctor said it was too early to be sure of my status. I couldn’t get tested for gonorrhea but she decided to start an antibiotic treatment for it. She also said that i could be infected with HIV and this made me a little sad at that moment although you said it was impossible to get HIV with oral sex. for 3 weeks I have and still been under antibiotics (levofloxacin,ciprofloxacin,clarithromycin,doxycycline and cefuroxime ) i went for an Hiv test 6 weeks after exposure and was negative. I once had extreme fatigue for a whole day during this medication.. My question is could these antibiotics delay immune response to Hiv and thus delay antibody production???

The only other question I have in about the Clarithromycin. In some post it suggest that it can cure/prevent chlamydia,gonn., NGU and syphillis then in others it suggest that it cannot. If I started taking the meds a day after the exposure am I safe from all bacterial stds or can it suppress the symptoms? Thank You!

But here is my question. I ended up with a respiratory infection and the Doc gave me Clarithromycin, I have to take 2X 500mg a day for ten days. I started the medication the day of the sexual encounter. Will Clarithromycin help clear up any of the STD's that I might have caught during the act? There is not too much info on Clarithromycin and STD's out there. I know one thing it is sure working on my respiratory infection big time. Thanks for your responses!

I was on tx. during the katrina nightmare, heat and sun exposure gave me the worst rash and caused a tremendous amount of itching. Stay out of the sun and heat while on tx.

He had some left over clarithromycin 500 mg about 10 days worth and he began taking that. I told him he should just get tested but he dosent have insurance currently and is unemployed. I am very active outdoors and would hate to have to stay out of the sun. I use sun screens and still I get this condition.

actually sun is very beneficial to both you and baby, you need around 20 min of exposure to the sun everyday on your arms and legs, a little more if your dark skinned, your body gets its vitamin D from being exposed to the sun, otherwise you risk having vit D deficiency which isnt good, and you end up by having to take suppliments, just be sure that you dont go out in the hottest part of the day and if you do put on sunscreen :)

It is possible that you have/had sun poisioning. Any antibiotics will add to the harsh exposure of the sun. That is why they tell you to try to avoid the sun if you can or use a high level of sunscreen if you are out in the sun. If you are not feeling better soon, you should see your doctor. Please be careful while in the sun while on these medications. It can cause some major symptoms not to mention the higher risk of sun burn. Hope you feel better soon.

m now freaking out thinking that the original chlam/gonn test taken back in the summer may be invalid and that I could have given my wife chlamydia and that because I was on clarithromycin up until Tuesday of this week the tests which I took on the Wednesday (the next day) could show a negative result even though I did have chlamydia a week before. Hi, if your concerned about chlamydia get tested 7 days post exposure and Clarithromycin is an antibiotic so it may have a positive effect on chlamydia but you would need to talk to you doctor about this as depends on dosage.
