I took 1500mg of Clarithromycin ER, and 1875mg of Amoxicillin that night. The following morning took another 1gm of the Clarithromycin ER & 1375mg of Amoxicillin. But here is my question. I ended up with a respiratory infection and the Doc gave me Clarithromycin, I have to take 2X 500mg a day for ten days. I started the medication the day of the sexual encounter. Will Clarithromycin help clear up any of the STD's that I might have caught during the act? Clarithromycin isn't the treatment of choice for any STD. However, it would effectively prevent most cases of gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, or nongonococcal urethritis (NGU). But not all. When my physician increased the amount I could take in a 24 hour period without decreasing the acetaminophen my pharmacist called my physician immediately and requested the acetaminophen dose be reduced and the hydrocodone be increased. Mine were only Hydro 5/500 apap at the time and the pharmacist had the physician change it to Hydro10/325 apap. Again I am blessed that not only do I have a great physician, I also have an astute pharmacist.

Dont anyone count on liver regeneration to get past an acute overdose of acetaminophen. The damage is permanet and irreversible. If you are not just recent infected, doxy alone will not do the trick, and clarithromycin may well not either. There are reasons for this that have to do with the bacteria finding ways to hide in your body where these regular meds can't find them. That's the stuff an LLMD knows.
