The chemicals will slowly filter out. The meds I went to without any issues after that is Citalopram. There is a headache as it works its way in but not as bad as the other. Also, I've experienced sexual side effects with both and Citalopram also doesn't have as severe ones. All of this of course depends mostly on your body and how it chooses to react.
I have been taking Citalopram (antidepressent) for years now, 40mg daily. The depressive mood comes and goes! But I wonder if I stop taking it gradually will there be withdrawal symptoms? Is there dependency on this medicine? I was thinking for instance to decrease it 5mg every two weeks or a month.
Am off to docs this week and I know she,ll probably tell me off for stopping and starting hrt again, and suddenly starting back on citalopram , think probably a lot my problems/symptoms are stress related, bad stomach, headaches, sleeplessness.
Am sick of feeling so unwell, maybe its normal and to be expected all these problems as we get older?
Anyway if anyone here knows if its safe to take "nightnurse" capsules with the meds Im currently on I would be very gratefull.
You have to taper off. There are lots of horror stories from those who went cold turkey. I was on 30 per day and went down to 20, 10 and am at 5. Each taper is 2 weeks and I have 1 week left to go for the 5s. So far the effects are not very noticeable.
You should talk to a pharmacist if you can't afford a doctor as there are different tapering strategies.
what effect can you get when stop taking binovum and citalopram as i have been experiencing some side effect and was wondering if its because of the tablets
i have been on citalopram for two years and put on 50lb, which really depresses me since my eating and exercise regime has never changed. looking on the net i discovered wellburtrin, so i will ask my gp if i can swap over to this. i just want to know would i stop taking citalopram and start taking wellburtrin, or would i cut the dosage of citalopram down and take the new wellbutrin with it.

Last night i had the weirdest thing happen to me. I was completely asleep and dreamt of trying to solve some sort of puzzle or problem that i just couldn't figure out. I was suddenly "shocked" awake like someone had stuck my finger in a socket.
I agree with mammo, Citalopram which is the generic of Celexa is almost identical to Lexapro. Lexapro is just a newer version of Celexa. Stopping anti-depressants cold turkey can cause severe withdrawal symptoms. I took it for a while and it only cost 4$ at Target.

Brain zaps are common as withdrawal of certain anti depressant drugs like ssri ( citalopram ) & snri s .
I think thats why my doctor try the zoloft again because i am thinking i am itching and i am not really having reaction to the medicine but he said you do have sentitvie to medicine that why he had a backup medcine for me. my question is anybody taking Zoloft 25mm or Citalopram 20mm before and any side effects from these medicine? also any tips on controling my anxiety and depression ?
Also, is there a reason that you are going off BOTH of them? Is your anxiety completely gone? If you are stopping lexapro because you lost your insurance or something, you should talk to your doctor about switching to the anti-depressant citalopram, which is chemically related to lexapro, but is generic and much cheaper.
The correct spelling is Citalopram, and I'm on 40 mg. Pharmacists are a great resource for alternative medications. Then all you have to do is discuss it with your doctor.

Basically escitalopram is the new citalopram with less side-effects and requires only half the dosage and I think it is the reason for it's cheaper price.

I have suffered for many years from tics, having started in my hands soon after I started taking citalopram around 8 years ago. They have become so bad I have taken myself of the medication (panic managable so far, thankfully) but the tics don't seem to have got any better, if anything they've got worse. Does anyone have any experience of these stopping after a period of time drug free? One would hope they are not a permanent side effect as they are pretty chronic.

I gained about 30 lbs on Citalopram. I work out and eat healthy. I just saw a new doctor and he believes the Citalopram is causing my weight gain. I have been on it for about 18 months. I am now taking half a pill of Citalopram in order to wean myself off of it. My doctor then prescribed me Bupropion HCL (take twice a day). He says that should help with weight loss. Has anyone had good experiences with Bupropion? Did you gain weight on Citalopram? Thanks!!!
