Common Questions and Answers about Citalopram ssri

celexa

Avatar n tn One is a benzo, used on an as needed bases and the citalopram is an SSRI. In my experience, many doctors will prescribe a benzo when you start an SSRI. SSRIs can take weeks to 'kick in,' and for one to start feeling its benefits. Did you just start taking citalopram?
Avatar n tn Hi, I've been suffering with some problems with anxiety for a long time and more recently they have led me to depression. Months back before I started really feeling the depression my doctor had me try out 20 mg's of citalopram. I was on it for three months and really didn't feel a difference in myself, so I decided to go off them. I did have some trouble withdrawing as it was quite the pain in the ***.
Avatar n tn I take atenolol 100mg daily , and also citalopram ( an SSRI) 10mg daily, no problems whatsoever. Hope you feel better soon. I'm bias with citalopram because of all SSRI it is usually less likely to interact with other drugs and also has the least side effects profile, I feel like a new person since being on it.
Avatar f tn But if you are looking for somethign that you want a instance or close to it anti - anxiety, you need to ask your doctor to give you pills that are not SSRI.
1414174 tn?1304680526 Anyone else using Citalopram during TX? I took 20mg for three days.. I felt like I was on another planet?
Avatar f tn Hello, I can not fine what medication you are taking but there should not be any problem taking a anti-diarreahal together with a SSRI. SSRI are safe and relatively weak therefour they are safe to take and will not cous amy major changes in the bodyphysiology. You can check interactions at http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.
Avatar n tn hi, I've been on citalopram 20mg for just under 3weeks for my anxiety. just wondered if anyone had any good results from this medication and how long it took to work?
Avatar m tn Lexapro has some of the least side effects of the SSRI class anti-depressant drugs.(SSRI-Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitor.) It can cause sexual difficulties, such as lack of interest and more difficulty achieving orgasm (sorry to be so blunt, forgive me) and it can cause some increased sweating. Of course there are other mild side-effects, but this drug may work well for you. It's worth discussing it with your doctor. Lexapro is one of the faster acting antidepressants.
1265681 tn?1270103020 Can I take L-Theanine with citalopram? I use to take L-Theanine and it use to help my anxiety a whole lot. My anxiety is really bad im on my second week of citalopram.
Avatar f tn I tried welbutrin once, and had a terrible reaction, as well as another non-ssri type anxiety medication. It seems like I need to stick to an ssri, but I don't know if any other would be as effective as citalopram has been for me. My mom has an anxiety disorder as well, and has tried many ssri's, but citalopram is the only one that works for her. Has anyone else experienced something similar, or have suggestions of medication?
Avatar m tn I have been taking Citalopram (antidepressent) for years now, 40mg daily. The depressive mood comes and goes! But I wonder if I stop taking it gradually will there be withdrawal symptoms? Is there dependency on this medicine? I was thinking for instance to decrease it 5mg every two weeks or a month.
Avatar f tn but after huge waves of depression due to the lack of energy, fatiuge ect i was totaly exhasted so i started to take this new citalopram the doctor prescribed. I have been taking them for 4 weeks now and already am felling really good. Infact i cant belive the vast improvement. I have had no migranes,no brain fog, no dizziness am thinking on my feet my vocab has speeded back up and i can thin clearer than i have in the past 2 years.
Avatar f tn Medications in the SSRI class like citalopram (brand name Celexa) don't mess with your brain chemistry the way others like xanax, valium or klonopin do. You won't be zoned out and you should begin to notice that you feel better after a few days. My husband and I both take this medication and found it to be more effective than my old lexapro and his zoloft. Regarding your brain chemistry fears, put them to rest.
Avatar f tn If I am not mistaken Citalopram is Celexa. A very effective SSRI from what I have heard. It's about the only one I have never tried. There are some major differences between Effexor and Celexa. Effexor being an SNRI that works primarily by inhibiting the reuptake of Neurephinepherine. This Celexa choice may actually be better for you if you also suffer from Insomnia.
Avatar m tn In general, the newer antidepressants (SSRI and SNRI) do not prolong QT interval so much. A possible exception is citalopram (and escitalopram). As far as I know, paroxetine and vortioxetine are fairly safe. How long is your QT interval?
1305767 tn?1361192676 I'm on 40 mg. of Citalopram and I haven't had it in two days because even though it's only 4 bucks at Walmart I don't even have 4 stinking dollars. The brain zaps are the worse plus I'm irritable and want to cry all the time.
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed me Effexor XR and I got my prescription filled but before taking it I decided to do some research about this drug. The withdral and side affects scared me so I decided agains this drug. Then doctor priscribed me Citalopram and I've been taking it since. I have been taking citalopram 20mg a day for about 3 months. At the time of my visits to the doctor I had an insurance that covered my drugs, now I don't have my insurance any longer.
Avatar n tn s concern may come from the fact that the use of an SSRI (citalopram is one) with aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) or other drugs that affect bleeding may increase the likelihood of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. A pain medication such as vicodin which is usually prescribed by dentists, contains acetaminophen which is not a NSAID and does not effect ones bleeding rate. Your dentist may need a course in pharmaceuticals.
Avatar f tn how many 20mg of citalopram equal 2mg of xanax? my doctor prescribed me both meds but .
Avatar f tn I believe it's an SSRI and is good for depression, you will have to wait and see if it works for you and if it's the right medication.Give it 4 to 6 weeks to kick in.
644988 tn?1236364548 Citalopram (Celexa) is an SSRI, and that whole group of very useful drugs is unfortunately notorious for producing night sweats. You can google it.
Avatar f tn s never did much good in the long run - citalopram is a SSRI - but they sometimes use low doses in conjunction with mood stabilizers. My pdoc is considering adding Wellbutrin as it doesn't usually cause hypomania. I am waiting until I am on the right doses of the drugs I am on now. I just got diagnosed end of July. I was just weaned off Cymbalta, so not getting as many manic episodes. I have been put on Serequal and Lamactil. I believe both are available in the UK.
4762310 tn?1362165935 Ok , because i was put on seroquel 50 mg and 10 citalopram and where on them for 6 weeks and they did nothing at all, so he upped the seroquel to 100mg and citalopram to 20mg and its been 2 weeks and still nothing , :S
Avatar f tn you can always stick to a SSRI and try Zoloft, it is a bit different than citalopram by improving connection between both temporal lobes. Another solution regarding medication would be to try Wellbutrin. Dopamine is highly linked with pleasure sensation therefore I find it to be very effective in depressed people with lethargy. You can also try a tetracyclic that will antagonize the main receptors for serotonin (5-HTs). Such tetracyclic is mirtazapine.
