ve been on citalopram (including myself) and there was no weight gain. However, weight gain is listed under possible side effects, so it does happen to some people. But it's not like mood stabilisers, where the weight gain is very likely. I wouldn't worry about it. Most things that are listed under the side effects of any given drug are very rare.

The sex drive is good to know. Citalopram also gave me that side effect. I am glad the Wellbutrin did not make you gain weight. I wonder how long until it is out of my system. The doctor said if i quit cold turkey on Citalopram, it can cause bad side effects. That's why I am taking half a pill of it. s now been 4 weeks since I took my last citalopram and nothing has changed. How long can the side effects from the citalopram affect the Wellbutrin?

Hi, I was started on nefazadone hydrochloride years ago, worked well but was withdrawn from the market, citalopram for about 12 years, weight gain and few other side effects. stopped working. Escitalopram gave me fast hearbeat as did trazadone, Setraline fast or slow and irreg heartbeat. Never considered effexor xr/venlafaxine as i was so put off with the reviews of weight gain and the awful discontinuation symptoms. Prozac was great but major weight gain in two months.

The manufacturer has by law to list all known side-effects on their product data sheets, even rare side-effects. Remember many people get through their treatment without suffering any major side-effects and hopefully this will be the case with you. So I would relax and forget it. If you worry about a decrease in libido, you'll definitely get a decrease in libido!

If this drug is having you gain any excess weight, and I think that because you know what the side effects of both Wellbutrin and Citalopram are, (weight loss right?) you are more than capable of eating right and exercising. The above is good advice, wellbutrin isn't usually recommended alone for anxiety sufferers. Some psychiatrists will combine it with your ssri, however, to see if it helps with side effects such as weight gain or sexual problems. If you don't want to take two serious meds, and I'm with you on that, one's tough enough, you can taper off slowly what you're on and try a different med, though you could have weight issues with any of them.

There is no question that you did the right thing in immediately notifying your doctor of these side effects and I'm glad you did. ve just been put on citalopram for depression and BDD and after reading the reviews and side effects leaflets, im worried about gaining weight on this medication...Is it the actual increase in hunger that causes weight gain or the tablet itself? I am quite worried about this as my body image issues make me scared about putting on weight..

t get me wrong, it works wonders and the side effects disappear almost as soon as the positive effects start happening. Just keep to them and keep a positive attitude that they'll work and everything will be fine.

Citaloporam takes 2-3 weeks, give or take, to reach therapeutic levels and side effects may be present during this time. Any concerns about side effects should be brought to the attention of his doctor. There ARE some cases where the side effects are just too difficult for someone to manage and that's when a dffferent med should be tried..............

Hi I switched from Fluoxetine to Citalopram about 6 months ago as the Fluoxetine was making me gain weight. Since I've been on Citalopram I've put on even more, and am now about 2 stone (14kg) heavier than I was before I started. I don't want to come off ADs as they're helping me so much, but at the same time I don't know if I can cope with any more weight gain. Has anyone experienced weight gain with certain antidepressants then been able to lose with a different one?

Please read all side effects on the meds you take. Always go with the lowest dose that works for you. Many pdoc's just randomly increase a med for no reason at all, disregarding that the lower dose works. The more of a med you take, the more chance of side effects. That's not to say you won't get any side effects on any dosage. Hope this is helpful.

Not a doc, but the combo of Lexapro and Effexor is pretty odd to me. They both affect serotonin, but Effexor also affects norepinephrine. I can switching from one to the other, but don't understand taking both. You do need to discuss this thoroughly with a psychiatrist, but I'd personally get another opinion if you can for these reasons: This one is just adding meds to meds that don't work. That isn't how augmentation is usually done.

Celexa came first, and when the patent ran out, they played with the structure, took some things out, and made Lexapro. Reportedly it has fewer side effects, but who knows if that's really true? I found Celexa easier to take myself, so it just goes to show. But the core of both drugs is the same. For me, the one drug that really put on the weight was Paxil. For others, it's different.

Not sure citalopram is any different than other ssris in encouraging food consumption -- depends on the person. And some can make you gain weight even if you don't eat any additional food because they can slow metabolism. The only real weight gainer that makes most people eat more that I know of is the tetracyclic Remeron.

Yes, my ears have been stuffed both on Lexapro and Celexa. Apparently one of the side effects is jaw clenching. And if you lose weight on one of these, that's a blessing -- most of us gain. A lot. Give it some time, but not too much time. Sometimes a particular med just isn't for you.
