Avatar f tn Hi, all - I've been absent from the boards for a while, but now I've been dealing w/ my 'new' meds for a few months. I'm on Citalopram (10 mg) and Valium (2 mg daily, 3 if I need the extra at night), in addition to BP meds (atenolol and lisinopril, and a baby aspirin.). I've been seeing a psychiatrist now for about 7 months, and because I'm pretty sensitive to the meds, she has been very good about taking things slow.
Avatar m tn my psychiatrist gave me citalopram, after taking citalopram i started felling better, and after couple months i was 99.9% cured. depression had gone, i had high self esteem again feel confident for my self i could do anything.no more panic attacks, i realized that nothing is wrong with my heart and no more agoraphobia.i start doing things again in my life, i was not sitting all day in my room and thinking about it.all those bad thoughts had been disappeared.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with OCD when I was 9. I have been on Prozac, Paxil, Lexapro and now Citalopram for 16 years. At this point the citalopram doesn't seem to be working anymore. I have increased my dosage to 80mg a day and have added xanax about .5 mg 2 to 3 times a day about 1 month ago. I am very depressed and I'm worried about forgetting things. I'm worried about getting alheizmers disease. I need to go to see a neurologist and have some tests done.
Avatar m tn But im on citalopram for hiv based ocd. So forgive me. The Cdc says that it could be up to an 8 percent chance for hiv transmission during oral sex. Where as Dr hook says this is zero. Why do two completely reliable sources have conflicting information? Which is it?

309783 tn?1271958229 My best friend has been taking citalopram for anxiety. She returned from the doctors today with a prescription for concurrent risperdal for OCD. I know her very well. We used to work together and now that we've left work we spend all day together. In the evenings we go to each others houses for supper, our kids all play together and we frequently spend the night at each other's house. We are in constant text contact.
Avatar m tn I found that in my son, who has a variety of mental health issues, guanfacine seemed to agitate him to the point that he physically attacked his older brother, literally 3 times his size. In addition, in a bizarre medication mixup, I had taken that medication in place of my regular medication and found the same to be true, I was extremely irritable and felt like I bordered on uncontrollable anger.
Avatar f tn Well, I'm 22 years old. I've had both OCD and ADD since ever. I started treating my OCD a year ago, taking citalopram, and now it's pretty much under control. I Want to start treating my ADD because it really affects my grades and studying, I'm a medical student by the way. The question is, if I combine a norepinephrin reuptake inhibitor with my SSRI, would it be okay, or it would cause problems?
1001742 tn?1252685847 It is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). It works by increasing levels of a neurotransmitter called serotonin in the brain. Increased serotonin levels can lead to an improved mood. I was prescibed this for my anxiety by my family doctor although I'm not sure if I should take this if I will **** dirty at the meth clinic.
Avatar n tn t help a lot with the OCD just the associated anxiety! Luvox helps a lot with the OCD, but I hate taking it as I do not feel like "me", so hence am happy just to be able to manage the anxiety which helps me "fight" the OCD using CBT. Again, thank you for your answer.
Avatar f tn Hi! I had OCD quite badly when I was a child between the ages of about 7 and 11. I used to do little rituals like touching everything six times and being really scared something bad would happen if I didn't! Well this appeared to all disappear with age.. However a few months ago, my grandad died and for some reason this event seems to have triggered it again. This time I don't have the rituals problem but I've been suffering with obsessive thoughts.
Avatar f tn I have never taken ADD medication so I cannot tell you from experience whether they cause OCD symptoms. My son takes Adderall for his ADHD and he has does not have OCD or OCD-like symptoms if that helps you. Medication is nice in that it does help but there are other things that you can do to help yourself. You can learn cognitive behavioral therapy to help with the thoughts and the anxiety. Along with medication this is a powerful tool.

Avatar f tn My ocd has been going crazy the last 24 hours. I have to recite a words or phrases (certain ones) ans if I do it wrong or mispronounce it I have to start all over again until I get it right, my head hurts and I get really upset if I have to re-do it, sometimes it takes several times to do. Also while I am reciting if the time chances on the clock I have to recite. it's like a ritual. Anyone have this?
Avatar m tn on top of that for past 3weeks i have had ocd thoughts of telling me i dont love my fiancee its killing me they are there 24/7 and i cant stop them.
Avatar f tn I forgot to mention that I've been on Citalopram for my OCD for more than a year. But the menstrual irregularity dates even before I started the medication.
Avatar f tn These medications are also used to treat Trichotillomania and OCD and include clomipramine, fluoxetine (prozac), sertraline, paroxetine, fluvoxamine, citalopram, escitalopram, nefazodone and venlafaxine. These new generation antidepressants - the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors - are really safe. I'm on them myself. You can also try some behaviour therapy like habit reversal training and with Exposure and Response Prevention which some nail biters find helpful. Hope that helps!
7729616 tn?1393795492 Hi I've been suffering from mood swings, low mood, depression and anxiety for quite a number of years and I've had a hard time with my doctors about it. November 2011 - I was found to have an underactive thyroid but the doctors did not put me on medication. A few months after this, my neck swelled up and I had trouble swallowing. The doctor referred me to a counselor and diagnosed me with generalised anxiety and anorexia.
Avatar f tn Ok so I was recently prescribed Celexa for depression/OCD and I already take some other meds, I wa wondering if they are ok to mix, because I have been getting an upset stomach since. I was already taking Oxy, naproxen, flexaril, emtec, ranitidine, xenical and sometimes Arbil and Tylenol, does anyone know if these are all ok together? Thanks!
Avatar m tn Right, but overall my doctor is correct ?
Avatar m tn 1 mixture of (S)-Citalopram and (R)-Citalopram]; Escitalopram [(S)-Citalopram) is a pure enantiomer. The dosages for Escitalopram are typically 1/2 of those for Citalopram, and there are fewer side effects, suggesting that most side effects come from the (R)-enantiomer.'' Basically escitalopram is the new citalopram with less side-effects and requires only half the dosage and I think it is the reason for it's cheaper price. -http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar f tn My 7 year old was diagnosed with OCD a few months ago and is on Prozac. He doesn't do any counting or hand washing, nor do things have to be in any particular order, he just has bad thought ocd. He has to confess everything to me even it happened a year ago. And he will say to me "I just thought you are a pin head, but I don't think that anymore". He can't keep any of his thoughts to himself. He is now on Prozac and I'm wondering if it is making him hyper.
Avatar f tn I have a diagnosis of OCD due to a history of obsessions, and countinual counting in my head, and touching things. Mostly my OCD is 'internal', so people don't notice unless I'm somewhere that makes me very anxious. However, the numbers/counting/touching are now 'externalising' more, and people are noticing. I feel I need to touch and count my elbows a lot, and sometimes have massive urges to touch other peoples (which i try my best not to do unless I know them very well!
Avatar f tn Hey Sara, thought I might be able to help because I've had ADHD my whole life, and OCD (but since OCD has been severe in my immediate family, this was addressed at a very young age.) Many people confuse OCD with cleanliness, but this is not always the case. However, I have never met another patient of OCD who has ever reported living in a messy room per se- there is usually some overarching form of organization to it even if it appears messy. Self-living space is a good indicator of OCD.
