Avatar n tn That's a great suggestion! I was holding a thumb on this thread to see if it got a reply or not, and emaise - I agree with hope_for_more: You should never co-ingest medications and alcohol. Those two usually elevate the effect of either one of them and if it's not the liver, it is the CNS or something else that suffers. You're taking this medication for it's effect.
Avatar m tn In appropriate neurochemical, functional, and behavioural non-clinical experiments, escitalopram shows greater efficacy and faster onset of action than comparable doses of citalopram. The lower efficacy of citalopram in these studies is apparently due to the inhibition of the effect of the S-enantiomer by the R-enantiomer, possibly via an allosteric interaction with the serotonin transporter.
Avatar f tn I gained about 30 lbs on Citalopram. I work out and eat healthy. I just saw a new doctor and he believes the Citalopram is causing my weight gain. I have been on it for about 18 months. I am now taking half a pill of Citalopram in order to wean myself off of it. My doctor then prescribed me Bupropion HCL (take twice a day). He says that should help with weight loss. Has anyone had good experiences with Bupropion? Did you gain weight on Citalopram? Thanks!!!
Avatar m tn High concentrations of GGT are found in the liver, bile ducts, and the kidney. Hence kidney and urinary problems could be causing the high GGT level. Greater-than-normal levels of GGT may indicate: congestive heart failure , cholestasis (congestion of the bile ducts) , cirrhosis, hepatitis , liver ischemia (blood flow deficiency), liver necrosis, liver tumor, high alcohol intake, use of hepatotoxic drugs (drugs toxic to liver).
Avatar f tn in my expirience, drinking makes my anxiety/ocd worse for a few days after. I haven't drank in a year, but when i did, the next few days i was so nervous and anxious i couldn't function. and yes, xanax and drinking can cause liver and kidney problems over time, and in excess can cause overdose.
Avatar n tn Alprazolam (Xanax) and lorazepam are in the same class of meds called benzodiazepines and there is absolute no reason to take both meds..
Avatar m tn She then referred me for a repeat ultrasound on my liver and abdomen to check again for abnormalities and fatty deposits. These were normal and showed no abnormalities. A repeat blood test still showed two enzymes, ALT and Gamma GT to be slightly raised. A Flexible Sigmoidoscopy was then performed and the results were also normal.

Avatar n tn Combining Alprax and Citalopram can cause central nervous system and respiratory depressant effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. Please discuss with your doctor for alternate medications. In the meantime, I would strongly caution you not to drive or operate heavy machinery while on these medications as you might injure yourself or others. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn i take 800 mg of lithuim, 60mg of citalopram for my dipolar II disorder and 125mg of levothyroxine for my underactive thyrod i seem to have problems with my sex drive i never want it could it be the meds
Avatar f tn I am also on Lisinopril (20mg 1x), Rosuvastatin (10mg 1x), and Citalopram (20mg, 1x). In addition to prescription meds, I also take one vitamin D3 (2000 IU) daily, as well as two 650mg Acetaminophen tablets. I tend to pay a lot of attention to my liver, since I had a good friend pass away of liver cancer at an early age. I know that chalky stools can be a symptom of bile duct blockage.
Avatar f tn Thank you. So, I go in for another liver enzyme blood test in a month. I guess I should stop taking both omenprazole and zantac until then? Is that what you would do? Thanks.
Avatar m tn Hi Sorry to burst your bubble but you will suffer withdrawals mine took a few weeks to kick in I came off effexor. But I know my group that Citalopram is not easy to come off you would be better going back on it and weaning off slowly follow cita's withdrawal programme my support group they are on the web.
Avatar m tn and i researched and decided on a liver-cleanse, au naturel, and i did one, and they levels went down by hundreds of points..they were shocked...i dont' know to this day what caused those to shoot up, but....taking prednisone to cover it up and make you gain 100 lbs, while it's killing your organs...ah, no..wondering how you made out...yrs later..do your own research..we must find out the cause, not by poking holes in you...
Avatar m tn 1 mixture of (S)-Citalopram and (R)-Citalopram]; Escitalopram [(S)-Citalopram) is a pure enantiomer. The dosages for Escitalopram are typically 1/2 of those for Citalopram, and there are fewer side effects, suggesting that most side effects come from the (R)-enantiomer.'' Basically escitalopram is the new citalopram with less side-effects and requires only half the dosage and I think it is the reason for it's cheaper price. -http://en.wikipedia.
15256956 tn?1439425231 Let me get this straight. You have a psychiatrist who took you off an antidepressant in just one week? And isn't dealing with the withdrawal problem? The minimum taper should have been six weeks from my experience. You also should research Buspar. See if you think it actually works much of the time. And if your anxiety is related to the heart problem, the beta blocker should theoretically at least have solved that problem.
Avatar f tn I am waiting for results from my MRI, my doctor is not very helpful and thinks its all in my head, why would I waste my time and doctors time if this is all in my head. This is making me depressed and taking over my life, I am currently taking Citalopram for depression just to get me through the day. Can somone shed some light on these symptoms??? Thanks Sarah.
Avatar f tn Lots of people have read about grapefruit and hep c and are trying it but I also know a lot of people on tx or getting ready to tx are using the anti- depressant Zoloft . Zoloft is one of the drugs that can cause big danger to the liver if used with grapefruit. There are others too but this one is especially common to people on interferon/riba. I sure don't want anyone to make this mistake. There are anti depressants that are safe with grapefruit-Celexa is one of them.

Avatar f tn Hi I switched from Fluoxetine to Citalopram about 6 months ago as the Fluoxetine was making me gain weight. Since I've been on Citalopram I've put on even more, and am now about 2 stone (14kg) heavier than I was before I started. I don't want to come off ADs as they're helping me so much, but at the same time I don't know if I can cope with any more weight gain. Has anyone experienced weight gain with certain antidepressants then been able to lose with a different one?
