Most uncomplicated UTIs can be treated with oral antibiotics such as trimethoprim, cephalosporins, nitrofurantoin, or a fluoroquinolone (e.g., ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin). Trimethoprim is probably the most widely used antibiotic for UTIs and is usually taken for 7 days. It is often recommended that trimethoprim be taken at night to ensure maximal urinary concentrations and increase its effectiveness.
Between 2006 and 2010 four times more I became that much ill that I needed antibiotics, got both ciprofloxacin and nitrofurantoin, but I react very slow on the last (and I'm allergic to Amoxicilin and the like).
I'm having chronic UTI, but nowadays, as long as it is not really making me ill, we leave it untreated, just drinking enough, to prevent that the antibiotics will lose effectiveness.
Yes, they did sensitivity test too and suggested antibiotics that are sensitive are (in order) nitrofurantoin,ciprofloxacin,norfloxacin,cefoperazone,amikacin. again when we went to doctor, he gave hicobal injection and Gabapin NT along with uribid and montemac as dose.Now no fever,but tingling sensation continues.

Diagnosed with uti 9/17 treated with nitrofurantoin. After one week symptoms persisted so was given ciprofloxacin. After one week symptoms persisted again so another culture was done and diagnosed with staph infection. Treated with amoxicillin but after one week symptoms still persist. Another culture done and came back contaminated was treated with metronidazole. Now done with prescription and systems still persist. Going to call doctor to see if another analysis/culture.
I am given a weeks course of nitrofurantoin. Meanwhile I take STD tests for Gonorrhea, chlamydia, UTI and HIV etc. All of these came back negative.
Week 3 -
Symptoms are persistant - particularly the burning sensation. I am then given a weeks course of Ciprofloxacin, which makes little difference. I am also given a Fluconazole tablet for Thrush (just in case.

Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim or Septra) and ciprofloxacin (Cipro) are commonly used. Other antibiotics that may be used include: Carbenicillin, Erythromycin, Nitrofurantoin,
Tetracycline. Most antibiotics do not get into the prostate tissue well.
I have been prescribed nitrofurantoin (macrobid) for a UTI. I have a hard time swallowing pills. Can these be broken up?
3) Nitrofurantoin (the generic name) is not usually active against gonorrhea or chlamydia. Still, it might interfere with testing. Probably best to wait until you have been off the drug for a couple of weeks.
4) The obvious explanation usually is the right one. I'm sure doctor would agree with my comments above.
Returning to your recurrent UTI: After repeated treatments, it is common for the bacteria causing UTI to become resistant.
I don't know if I have Trich or not but I was wondering if taking Ciprofloxacin 500mg 2x daily would cure it?
9 days ago Nitrofurantoin (200g a day for 5 days) was taken and daily birth control (Qlaira). Both are known to decrease levels of haptoglobin but nothing about complete depletion.
Could this be an extended effect from Nitrofurantoin? When should the test be repeated ?

A couple of weeks later I developed a urinary tract infection. Urologist prescribed nitrofurantoin for the infection. Immediatedly after starting the antibiotic my ears gradually starting feeling clogged. Now, two weeks later, they are both very clogged (no wax buildup) and I can barely hear. Logic tells me the ear clogging is somehow connected to the nitrofurantoin. Has anyone ever experienced this or heard of this happening? Will this clogging go away by itself?

I have been taking ciprobid, doxyl and nitrofurantoin for a month now. but still the is no change. I still have some pains. I took nitrofurantoin for a UTI infection and finished my course on Tuesday morning. Yesterday (Friday), I noticed what appears to be hives (small raised bumps with no redness, they didn’t itch) on my legs. I counted 13 - primarily on my thighs and shins. They appear to be gone today, but after I took my puppy for a walk this morning, I noticed small red bumps on my feet and they itched. Is this an allergic reaction to the antibiotics?

It is difficult to say if they are due to the underlying disease or due to ciprofloxacin. You should consult your doctor for a complete evaluation and diagnosis.
Take all of your antibiotics & drink LOTS of water. Some people will say cranberry juice, my my urologists says that plain water is always the best. And any time you have to urinate, go! This will help flush the bacteria out of your bladder. The best way to prevent bladder infections is to drink lots of water, NEVER hold your pee for a long amount of time, & always wipe from front to back.
What antibiotic is better to take for a tooth infection/ absess tooth Ciprofloxacin or Bactrim?
