Common Questions and Answers about Cipro medication guide

cipro

Avatar n tn FDA is notifying the makers of fluoroquinolone antimicrobial drugs for systemic use of the need to add a boxed warning to the prescribing information about the increased risk of developing tendinitis and tendon rupture in patients taking fluoroquinolones and to develop a Medication Guide for patients. The addition of a boxed warning and a Medication Guide would strengthen the existing warning information already included in the prescribing information for fluoroquinolone drugs.
Avatar n tn is it safe to take 125 mg of cipro each day for 6 months I was prescribed this for a UTI that keeps coming back. Also the pharmacy that filled the prescription gave me 250mg tablets and told me they aren't made in 125mg. and for me to break in half . But the info that comes with the meds says not to break.crush, or chew.
Avatar f tn Hi Diane, Just finished reading your comments. Product names : Cipro, Ciloxan. Ciprofloxacin, a quinolone antibacterial, is used to treat several types of bacteria resistant to other commonly used antibiotics. It is especially useful for some types of chest infections, and skin, intestinal , and urinary tract infections. Possible Adverse Effects Ciprofloxacin commonly causes nausea and vomiting; other side effects are less common, except when high doses are given.

Avatar m tn 2) I was away and got food poising last week and just finished a 7 day course of cipro...would either the sickness or cipro affect the test results? I am scared mainly because I developed alopecia areata...when I looked hard enough there are a few that say HIV may be a trigger....I am 34 and have never had this before....have any of you seen this to be common in HIV positive people?

Avatar m tn It is very difficult to know anything based on what you posted. First, lab ranges even for the different labs in the US differ so without ranges - have no idea if you are low, high or normal. Second - no idea if you are sick or how you are sick. The tests run are not really run for adrenal except DHEA (and that is really more of an adrogen - e.g. it converts to testosterone and estrogen) so not sure why it belongs in this forum.
Avatar n tn If someone has a history of UTI's and has no health insurance, why won't a doctor give a patient a refill? Why do I have to pay anywhere between $100 - $200 to go to the bathroom in a cup to confirm what I already know is true because I have had UTI's many times before. At a desperate attempt, I brought all the empty bottles of cipro and other drugs prescribed for my past UTI's to show that this wasn't something I was making up. I hoped the Dr.
Avatar m tn is sensitive to. I think perhaps the Cipro is the wrong medication for you. If the UTI has gone into your kidneys, then they will need to change your medication. Also, if you are having pain upon urination, they can give you Pyridium which is an analgesic for the urinary system. Be sure you drink plenty of water to flush out the bacteria.
250398 tn?1225263291 Began Bactrim and Cipro yesterday, along with Ibuprofen. I am working out of the country, so tracking down a Urologist or even a general practice doctor that speaks good enough English for me to understand, and for them to understand me, is a challenge. So, am I on a good track? Prostatitis? Bladder/Kideney infection? Thanks for the help.
Avatar m tn 1 gm of zithromax and 500gm of Cipro all in single dosage, is that all or do I need to see the doctor again
Avatar m tn I went to the doctor and got some antibiotics it showed signs of clearing up until about two days after the medication was finished. I went back and got a repeat of the medication and it got only to a clear fluid, mostly seen in the early mornings. I went to see another doctor, who told me this could be a normal sign to see in the morning, being a man. However he gave me some more antibiotics. About 7 days after those were completed, I started to see signs again.
Avatar n tn I took cipro for a UTI and i currently on buspar for anxiety. I have been off of cipro for a week but my anxiety levels are horrible due to this antibiotc. I was wondering if the cipro caused my buspar not to work right and if it will ever work right agin cause buspar helped my anieties for a long time now im in fear that it will not for me agin due to the cipro.
Avatar f tn The dr performed an exam, including a prostate exam and said that he had Prostatitis. He was put on an 8 day course of Cipro. Around day 4 the symptoms started to improve and he was feeling better. About a week later the symptoms came back and were more constant. This time we went to the Urologist. They too said that he had Prostatitis and that a long term antibiotic is needed to get rid of it and was put on Doxycycline for 6 weeks.
Avatar n tn they said they found nothing but to take precautionary steps they gave him a week of cipro... why would they have gave me a smaller dose when i had the std? and would 3 days of cipro take care of the problem?
Avatar n tn So I got diagnosed with gonorrhea and have been taking Cipro for 3 days now. However, the side effects of gonorrhea (pain while urinating, and yellow puss disharge) have only gotten worse. There is more discharge, and the pain has become excrusciating to the point that tears are shed. I want to get rid of this soon, or atleast the pain and drainage. I am afraid that I may have a Cipro-resistant strain seeing that nothing has improved and has only worsen ten-fold.
Avatar n tn Well that medication could skew the test. 1. Odds are low that you had anything and higher then low but still in the low range that if you had a STD that it was passed. 2. Cipro might, not the prescribed medication, but it might. At this point you probably do not have gonorrhea, but it would be wise to go for a follow up test. Might also be wise to have your wife test also. This is a reason why we never recommend self medication.
Avatar n tn Hi StephanCastlecrag, In actual ,, per doctor recommendation I should not be starting the medication for now. But I want to start the medication. I am HbeAg negative. But I want to start the Medication . On my insisting , Dr told me to start with Baraclude 0.5mg (Entecavir) . Should I start this or should go for Tenofovir ???? What is the major difference between the two ???
Avatar n tn Most importantly however, is there a guide on the pain-easing timescales (peeing broken glass versus the urge to pee isnt a dilema im enjoying right now).
Avatar f tn I tested rpr after 16 weeks of possible exposure and it was negative but i take cipro from 6 months for prostata. Can cipro give false negative after 16 weeks for this test?
Avatar m tn For about 5 days this continued, then I started taking cipro 500 mg 2xdaily. I have been on cipro no for 4 days and it felt better after the first few days the chills and frequent urination has come back. What should I do at this point?
Avatar m tn I now also have burning/freezing pain in both legs that is sometimes unbearable (especially at nights) and body-wide twitching 1- I have read that Cipro can have peripheral neuropathy, panic attacks and twitching as side effect that can start (or go on) even months after discontinuation of medication. I know this is more common with the oral/IV Cipro but I may have used the CiproDex for longer duration that was prescribed. I believe that I was misdiagnosed with anxiety and hyperthyroidism.
Avatar f tn to avoid this there is a great product out there which you can get at the pharmacy called Culturelle. Cipro is not the right medication to give for a UTI even if it works. Septra is one and then there is another. if you get those UTI's often, my doctor told me you can prevent them by taking one pill each time you have sex. of course, this only makes sende if you only have sex occasionally.
