My doctor just put me on Cipro for a UTI. I am also on the pill (Ovcon 35). Can the Cipro cause the pill to be less effective?
Answer: When a woman is taking oral contraceptives and has to also take antibiotics (such as Cipro) that could decrease the effectiveness of the oral contraceptives, it is recommended that she use a back up method of contraception (i.e. a condom) during the entire time she is on the antibiotics and for 7 days after she stops taking the antibiotics.
cipro is an antibiotic but there are lists out there of which ones can cause it to decrease, so idk if cipro is, wanted a doc point of view
Was on the birth control nuvaring. Had vaginal fungal infectioon . Took one dose of Diflucan - ended in ER feeling very ill with temp. Given Cipro. Next day, acute swollen, difuse lympadenopathy, fever, joint swelling. Continued Cipro for five days. Extreme fatigue followed, tremor, muscle weakness, perheral neuropathies. Fatigu sever, brfeathing difficult: all PFT normal. Elevagted histamine in urine 3x normal amount. Starting antihistamines and H1 and H2 blockers.
I however have had many problems with many different forms of birth control and have switched to condoms.

I have problems with UTI and kidney infections on a regular basis. I have been on Cipro on and off since 1994. Cipro has allways worked very well for me. I have not experienced side effects from this drug. I have had other antibiotics prescribed to me that did have some negative side effects. In my case Sulfa drugs causes hives.
From 1994 up to 2003, I used to come down with UTI and kidney infections that required hospitalizations with a frequency of about every 3 to 4 months.

I have a really high testerone level. like 2-3x higher than it should be, it's so high that' it's balding my hair (really bad). I have to use Toppik. But they can't treat me with Birth Control/Esterogan, because I an increased risk to throw a blood clot. So they don't know if one of my ovaries is over producing or if there's a tumor on one. Any help is Extremely Greatly appricated. I had an MRI and never heard back.
I am a 23 year old white female, 5'5" and 149lbs. I take birth control, B complex supliments, 1200mg calcium, abd 1000IU D daily. In the past year I have been on two courses of CIPROFLOXACIN 500 MG ORAL TAB for UTI's and one course of Amoxicillin for Strep.
For about 6 months (since June 2010) I have been suffering from hypersomnia. I sleep around 10 hours a night, and wake up exhausted. I fall asleep any time I sit or lay still.
I still have another week till my next period and I just started birth control about 3 weeks ago and have had intense soccer practices for 2 weeks now. I had sex about a month ago (right before I went on birth control) but we used a condom and I'm almost positive it didn't break. So I don't know whats wrong... but the blood in worring me.
WHen i started my birth control pills in december i got a yeast infection every week before my period. (i had previously never had a yeast infection prior to the pills). I of course waas treated by the doctor, he insisted that it wasnt the bc pills. however i think otherwise becuase i got the yeast infection ont he same pill of each month. Anyways, the fourth month i got UTI symptoms .. i went to the doctor after a week of symptoms they said my results were neg.
Has anyone had any problems with heart rhythm and taking cipro? I have read the side effects and it's scaring me. I don't have any QT prolongations but I sure have other rhythm problems.
Hi i have been on birth control almost 6 months now. And i bleed for 2 weeks every period. The first week its just a brown mild red spotting because im still on birth control and then the second week when im on the brown pill is when i actually get the full on effect of my period. Today i got my period again and im still not done with my normal birth control so i decided to skip to the brown pills this week and start a new pack once my brown pills are done.
Can I get birth control without having an exam? I want birth control to regulate my period. I have never been sexually active but my period can go for 5-9 days not heavy or light flowing. It also has a range of 21-30 days in between periods. I do NOT like to be touched and have never had a successful relationship because of it.
Hey what kind of birth control are you considering after birth??? Has anyone ever been on the depo shot? How did your body react? My friend has done the depo shot two different times and each time she has gained alot of weight with it, anyone else experience weight gain? I would like to do the depo shot bc I know I cant remember to always take the pill but I already have a hard time losing weight any advice???
