cipralex and tamoxifen

I have been on Tamoxifen for a little over two years for breast cancer. I am 46 and pre-menopausal. The first 22 months on the tamoxifen I had my period and occassional hot flashes. then one month my period stopped and my hot flashes. At month 27 on Tamoxifen, I had an ultrasound that shows a lickening of the uterean wall and 3 complex ovarian cysts. My Dr. is doing a biopsy but my question is why would my periods AND the hot flashes go away completely?

Hi, I am a 27 year old woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 25, I had a complete mastectomy and given the option of chemo or tamoxifen, we picked tamoxifen becasue being able to have children is very important to us. I have been taking this for just over one year and I had MANY side effects to tamoxifen, so much so that I have considered stopping it.

I have also just been diagnosed with CAD -- Coronary Artery disease. I am frightened of the side effects of Tamoxifen re strokes and heart attacks. My radiologist said that my cancer was the least aggressive -- small -- lymph node negative -- tumour removed with good margins -- he does not feel I will benefit that much from Tamoxifen -- however my oncologist wants me to take it to prevent reoccurence. What should I do in this case -- do the benefits outweigh the risks. Any advice????

After surgery, I had radiation therapy, plus taking tamoxifen. My cancer is stage 1 and grade 1Gradually, my hot flash is stopped and my life is back to near normal. Just to add to what Lauren said regarding tamoxifen vs. other AI's, they do work differently in the body. Tamoxifen works by blocking the body's use of estrogen, whereas AI's reduce the amount of estrogen present in the body. In studies of breast cancer patients, AI's have proven to work better than tamoxifen in preventing recurrence, and there are far fewer serious side effects with AI's than with tamoxifen, too. I was on Cipralex for a year since losing dad and losing my job. had bad anxiety and insomnia.

I take both those meds and avoid all cold medicines and over the counter medications because they can interact with the cipralex and serequel. I always call my pharmacist and ask which medications could counteract with my anti depressants.

went if ever can i expect my pain to go away, since going through chemo and starting tamoxifen, i've been having bad pain and stiffness in hands and feet. medication vicodin help some, also some stiffiness in knees. my doctor has no answers and keep try different medications that is not working. please have some anwers for me . pain started after taking tamoxifen in april, stopped chemo in march. what can i do or take to relief the pain. thank you.

anxiety is a common denominator for all psych disorders. it's not specific to BP alone. Taking cipralex will do you good for a while but then it will drive you manic eventually. you said cipralex, is it the only drug you take or along with other meds ? because if you take mood stabilizers along with then perhaps it's safe. but i never heard someone with BP is prescribed an antidepressant only. cipralex is rather strong it's an SSRI.

I am aware that provera is contraindicated in case of hormone-driven breast cancer, but was wondering whether the fact that I am taking tamoxifen as prevention and the fact that provera is given for four months make any difference? I am also wondering if I will have to choose between what cancer to try and prevent, that of the womb or that of the (other) breast? I am 36 and at the moment do not consider hysterectomy an option. I have been on tamoxifen for 5 weeks now after completing chemo and in the process of completing radiotherapy for breast cancer. I developed bilateral pulmonary embolisms a few days ago due to a dvt in my thigh which i was unaware of. I am on clexane injections for the next 6 months. Is it safe to continue on the tamoxifen? Is there an alternative to this medication that does not have such serious side effects.

He told me to consult with the psychristic. I consulted with the psychristic. He advised me to take cipralex for one and half month. After taking the cipralex too i feels the same sympton. For that i once again consulted with the other neurophysician in bangalore. He advised me for doing the MRI Scan. The result of the MRI saying "Mild ectopia of cerebellar tonsils. The tips of the tonsil is 5mm below the formen magnum. No mass effect is seen on the Brain stem.

I was 39 when diagnoised last year and had 4 cycles of AC chemo, followed by radiotherapy and now Tamoxifen for 5 years. I continued to have a period during chemo, but at the end of my chemo, the blood test showed I was in menopause status, but could not tell if it was permanent of not. 2 months later I did another blood test and was back ovulating. My periods continued and even now that I am on tamoxifen.

My went to visit my doctor about my anxiety and sleeping issues and he has put me on Cipralex 10mg dosage a day and also prescribed me 50mg of trazodone to be taken at bedtime to help me sleep. Does anyone take these prescriptions? if so could I please get some feedback on them?

So do you think panic and fear can be an extra side effect of cipralex and i should increase the above doze of xanax.

I have had head aches on cipralex, and when I drink some or even more then some drinks I get almost sick with a head ache. 1) are head aches common in taking anxiety drugs, 2) any way preventing the head aches. 3) dry mouth is that common with these drugs.

Hi, I too was taking Tamoxifen and then was switched to Arimidex and then Aromasen. I am now back on Tamoxifen. I had so many problems with the other meds. I am very sensative to meds and the later 2 did not work. I have a few problems with Tamoxifen but it is better than the others for me. My Dr. said that it is not a problem being in "forced" menopause and the fact that I had a hysterectomy as well. One thing we always have to remember is that we are our own advocate...

re doctor will take all the facts of your specific medical history and current condition into consideration. In fact, I have LCIS and Tamoxifen is usually prescribed for that, but my oncologist and I decided it wouldn't be right for me. You would just need to be sure the doctor has all the information needed including the name of your other doctor/s, so they can consult and share your medical history.

I would give it some time. and don't keep checking your heart rate. Cipralex and this class of drugs are long acting and not something that would just drop your heart rate. But as your stress and anxiety decrease, your heart rate in the resting mode may go back to normal. A resting heart rate of 50 is in the normal range. You are on a low dose. Hope it helps your anxiety/panic. I have found that often anxiety takes a bit higher dose to really work well.

What you are experiencing now are really not so common side effects of tamoxifen, and I suggest you have yourself evaluated by your doctor to rule out other causes of water retention (e.g. heart or kidney problems). The benefit of 5 years of tamoxifen therapy can be between 10-20%.

I was on cipralex (lexapro in the US) for almost 3 years and initially experienced some dry mouth, but no extreme side effects at all. It worked amazingly for me. I started on 10mg and then doubled to 20mg after 1 year. I recently switched to Paxil about 1 month ago, and have really disliked the way it makes me feel. My anxiety has been much worse and the side effects are just awful. It has been so much worse than cipralex.
