Avatar m tn You live in Cincinnati, the altitude is about 500 feet. I Live in an area with a similar altitude. My ejection fraction was recently pegged at 43%, and I really struggled last weekend walking up two flights of stairs at an altitude of 6000 feet at Mt. Hood, Oregon. I'm four years older than you, and in pretty good physical condition considering my heart trouble. Caregiver gives great advice.
Avatar m tn am I courting more serious problems by considering moving up here permanently? Since I have a home at a lower altitude (3000 ft) I am wondering if I should consider giving up the mountains for the plains and would appreciate feedback.
Avatar n tn If you believe you are suffering from altitude sickness, you immediately need to get some medical help. Altitude sickness is an emergency. Please get some help ok. I am originally from CO and got sick going up Pikes Peak. I know you need to eat carbohydrates I think and are supposed to go up in elevation slowly. Only other thing I can suggest is also getting to a lower altitude of course. Please get better. Well wishes.
Avatar n tn It's as safe as if you were not pregnant. If you're prone to altitude sickness you should know that they will have oxygen masks for people who get lightheaded.

Avatar f tn I am curious if living or traveling at altitude has any effect on people who are at risk for retinal detachment or glaucoma, especially if someone arrives at high altitude quickly by plane rather than acclimating slowly. I recently read an article which said the same drug(Diamox) used to treat AMS(acute mountain sickness) is also used to treat glaucoma, so I was curious if altitude can cause glaucoma.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm planning a trip to peru and bolivia. as known these areas ( mostly cusco and bolivia ) are area located at 3000+ altitude. I'm planning to rise very graddually so altitude sickness won't be a problem. The thing is i'm epileptic. last seizure was 3 years ago. I'm getting 1000mg depalept chromno. 21 yo. healthy besides that. in shape. I am worried these areas can somehow trigger a seizure.
Avatar m tn ve been working very hard on physical conditioning and diet to get ready for the altitude again. My cholesterol runs about 100. I asked my doctor if Diamox would help with acclimitization and he said yes, but that it would deplete my electrolytes such as potassium and that he would recommend Triamterene/HCTZ 37.5/25 instead. I'm not sure I understand why. I thought Diamox was the medicine of choice for acute mountain sickness (AMS) since it increases oxygen delivery.
Avatar f tn Have a blast, often prego women feel great at altitude bc of your extra blood volume! I always get mild altitude sickness above 7000 but not since prego!
Avatar n tn I just looked at several websites about this and only found 2 answers. One, there IS a cialis made for women. Two, women should not take cialis for men. No reason was given. Sorry that's all I have for you.
Avatar m tn Hi i have epilepsy and have been seizure free for a few years, there were all at night. I plan on climbing Kilimanjaro, wear altitude sickness will be a factor. Is it a definite that i will get High altitude cerebral edema as i am epileptic, or does it effect non-epileptics too?
Avatar f tn Also, I found this comment at a high altitude hiker site (I'm the first to exhibit altitude sickness when we go higher, yet still have sats 5% higher than anyone): A misconception of the acclimatization process is that the body returns to its sea level condition or that the hypoxia of high altitude can be nullified by acclimatization. This is not the case.
Avatar m tn I have no idea. Your condition is the opposite of other people's who suffer altitude sickness.
Avatar m tn Altitude is a known trigger for migraine headaches. Has she ever been diagnosed with migraine headaches before?
1323747 tn?1364806882 You state that Denver is around a mile high - this converts to approximately 5280ft, so you would be at a lower height than the usual for altitude sickness, but this said as you suffer from PAF it may be likely that you will begin to feel the effects of this at a lower altitude. At high altitudes the air becomes thinner, therefore, it holds less oxygen and in turn you will recieve less than your body needs to function correctly.
Avatar f tn ve read all about altitude sickness and how some people can feel their heart rate increase and feel short of breath....it just made me think how that will make someone like me (super sensitive to my heart rate and palpitations)- will feel. I am on 25mg of atenelol right now. Was just wondering if anyone here can share some of their experiences with high altitudes their heart rhythm. Thank you!
Avatar n tn Changes to night vision (or day vision) at altitude have to do with the partial pressure of oxygen at altitude. As you go up in altitude you go down in pressure and at some point (quite low for smokers) vision becomes affected. Insufficient oxygen in the blood is insufficient oxygen in the brain and eyes. Eyesight is just about the first thing to be affected.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure if this works because I don't see a reply option. Thanks for the information! I felt better this morning (the day after the hike) and I'm sure it was just the altitude because my legs don't hurt at all. I didn't even think about the altitude when we started the hike, but now I know that I'm not cut out for it. I certainly won't attempt it again without a trainer or until I know I'm in good enough shape for it.
Avatar n tn Colorado has a high altitude (depending on where you are located) and if you have a low iron count then the combination of less oxygen in the atmosphere AND less oxygen able to be carried in your blood could result in a form of altitude sickness. People who are prone to altitude sickness can experience symptoms similar to yours. Have you been to a doctor for a full check up? Has he/she ruled this out? Good luck to you.
Avatar m tn Could it be possible I have some high altitude sickness and could it have been a bad move from 700 ft elevation to 5,280 ft altitude for my particular body condition????
Avatar m tn Denver is an elevation of about 5000 feet. There should not be any problems, and an altitude of 8000 feet may be of consequence for some illnesses. Most people who have a chronic illness, such as heart or lung disease, can safely spend time at a 8000 high altitude if their disease is under control. People who have coronary artery disease, mild emphysema or high blood pressure aren't at greater risk of high-altitude illness than people who don't have these diseases.
Avatar m tn Is there a virus out there that can cause hair loss, chronic fatigue, recurring sore throat, muscle weakness, pale face, longer healing process for cuts and bruises, sensitive skin, motion sickness, and sleepiness.
Avatar n tn Diamox is also used to prevent altitude sickness; I took it for that reason. Most everyone has pins/needles and numbness in hands and feet; carbonated beverages taste flat; appetite is usually reduced.
