chantix side effects stories

My son took it for 3 months and although he did quit smoking, the side effects have nearly put us over the emotional edge. He had mild side effects while on it, the dreams, slight stomach ache, manageable headaches, but... when he went off it, the whirl wind began. He began with terrible hives, then numbness, dizzy, foggy, moody and the latest is he has been diagnosed with panic and anxiety.

My friend just quit taking Chantix due to the inability to handle the side effects. She has noticed that since quitting the Chantix alcohol has effected her differently. While on the Chantix she noticed the effects of alcohol tokk in quite quickly where now she seems to have a tolerance that was not there before. Is it possible that theh Chantix caused her intolerabilty to alcohol?

So right now I am currently taking ziprasidone 80 mg, chantix 1mg, topamax 50mg 3x day, and ropinirole for side effects 1 mg once a day. I can't believe I actually made it through the night last night. I had some psychosis and was up all night long, but laying and I had the shakes at first but I'm actually proud I made it through the night without popping that pill. Took my medicine this morning and slept for about 5 hours and no psychosis, hallucinations or anything.

I had smoked for 41 years and had to quit due to excess tissue growth (not cancer) on my vocal cords. The tissue was caused by a combination of smoking and acid reflux and I had gotten to the point where I could hardly talk. I used Chantix and breezed right through the whole ordeal. That was before I was dx'd with hypothyroidism/Hashi's (not necessarily before I had it - just not dx'd).

So, I have heard horrible stories about the side effects of Chantix, how was it for everyone that has used it?? Despite what people say about the side effects, everyone I know that has used it has successfully quit smoking, but I'm nervous about about what they say it does. I have had several people tell me that they have horrible nightmares, have SUICIDAL THOUGHTS, and feel like they are just down right going crazy???

Chantix can have a lot of side effects, including headaches. They may go away after some use of it for a while. And congratulations on quitting smoking, that is one of the hardest things to do in my oppinion. Chantix originally worked for me. Best of luck!

Yes someone I know who used Chantix for smoking cessation got side effects from it that took a long time to go away. If you are having further concerns speak to a doctor about it and as with any medication for information on side effects both short and long term look up the medication website because they all must be listed by FDA law.

There is no mention of headaches as a side effect on the Chantix site but it may be that it is a lesser reported one. I never had any problems other then a little gas/queasiness but that wasn't until my second month. Maybe you should try a few more days and if it persists, call the Chantix hotline. Good luck and try to hang in there!

my best friend quit smoking but first tried chantix an had some really bad side effects felt strange awful nightmares an had seazure from chantix doc took her off asap. Also seen on tv a lawyer saying if you had bad side effects from taking chantix or even death pls call today we have law suit in effect.

She felt that the nicotine withdrawls, combined with the side effects of the Chantix is what caused the severe anxiety.

Last night I looked up Chantix side effects on the web and found HUNDREDS of people with problems like mine that persist long after they stopped taking the pill. Many people in their thirties that just had a heart attack one day out of the blue (this is what I am most afraid of happening to me) Does anyone know how to undo the damage that chantix is causing?

Not that I'm pro Chantix, but allow me to play devils advocate for a minute. When one contemplates quitting and then sets out to do it, there is a profound loss.....like losing your best friend, and we all have to deal with. I myself grieved long and hard. Could your depressed state be that you have finally come to terms with the fact that it is your time to quit? I used Chantix and mourned the loss but I also used it before it was linked to "possible" suicide.

Hi My husband went on Champix for 2 1/2 months and he could have been on it longer but he was having severe side effects, he became very irratic with his personality and he bacame very nasty as times and was up all hours of the night sleep was not until 2AM sometimes.. he would not get off the meds because he thought I was making him aggitated and not the drugs. So I went to my Dr told her what was happening and she contacted his Dr who two weeks later took him off Champix.

Any better today? I've been thinking about you; read a few more posts on Chantix side effects, and if you still feel that deep fatigue, I would quit the Chantix immediately!...and most especially if you have any kind of emotional issues (I don't mean to assume) as Chantix can exacerbate them. There are many other quit aids to choose from if Chantix turns out to be not right for you.

Chantix has worked for me when all other methods have failed. I don't seem to get any side effects and have a tendency towards depression but feel fine.

On Chantix for my 3rd time in 4 years. Side effects getting worse but I have NO CHOICE. I hate smoking and I am an athlete and none of my friends smoke. I have been smoke free for 2 weeks and have no cravings but dream are out of control, I get very sleepy during the day, bloated lilke when I was pregnant. I don't want to give in and just accepting that this is what I have to do in order to stop. Also, I have been so irritated I feel like I could kill someone......

I have been on Chantix . My breast are swollen and tender. Has anyone else had this side effect. Not from my periods - had a hysterectomy 15 years ago.

I also quit smoking and was on Chantix at the same time. I thought the terrible side effects were Chantix. But I still am in trouble after stopping Chantix 7 weeks ago. Pretty nuts, a change from smoking 40 years, Effexor, Chantix, and Prozac. Should I quit every drug and start over?
