Liver Cancer Cells Coaxed To Commit Suicide By Common Anti-Inflammatory
The anti-inflammatory drug celecoxib, known by the brand name Celebrex, triggers liver cancer cell death by reacting with a protein in a way that makes those cells commit suicide, according to a new study.
Researchers also found that the combination of celecoxib with each of two chemotherapy drugs killed more liver cancer cells in culture, making those combinations more effective than either drug on its own.
A man aged 81 was taking celecoxib 100mg daily following knee replacement surgery for osteoarthritis. Three weeks after commencing celecoxib he developed jellybean-shaped loss of vision centrally in each eye. This occurred every day after his morning dose and lasted for a few hours. The celecoxib was stopped and there was no recurrence of the visual disturbance.
t seen anything positive about Celecoxib. My question is how long should I wait until I start taking this on a regular basis. Because, I have had many alcoholic drinks in my time, but if I stay sober should I be able to take this within 2 weeks? I'm only saying that because I'm assuming it might be a good window opportunity for my liver to start healing!
Ah thanks for your comment,, I have tried celecoxib and arcoxia as my doctors advised but I already got immune with this meds as they can't controll the pain anymore..
Furthermore, HCV-expressing cells treated with the inhibitors of Cox-2 celecoxib (Celebrex) and NS-398 showed significant reduction in PGE(2) levels. We also observed the enhanced phosphorylation of Akt and its downstream substrates glycogen synthase kinase-3beta and proapoptotic Bad in the HCV replicon-expressing cells. These phosphorylation events were sensitive to inhibitors of Cox-2 (celecoxib and NS-398) and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (LY294002).
I just did one after I fell and found out that I should not even be on half the medications I am on due to my Celecoxib. So I ended up falling the other day and really messed up my right ankle, low back, neck and right wrist. I was out camping with the hubby and so I took a couple of Benedryll to help me sleep since I was in so much pain...Very Bad Move, it dropped my Blood Pressure way down and caused me to be sensitive to the sun and get sunburned. I was so dizzy.
Celebrex or celecoxib, on the other hand, is used to treat pain or inflammation including headaches. Medication effect usually varies from one person to another. What is effective to one may not be as effective to another. It would be difficult to say which medicine has a better outlook. You can take the celebrex as an acute medication while the topamax may be your preventive medication. Discuss this with your doctor for proper management. Take care and regards.

I was diagnosed with Chiari in May. Now two of my cousins, my mom and brother have all be diagnosed with it as well. We are joining a genetics study and are curious if any of you others out there have joined any studies. We would like to know what the Pro's and Con's were/are. We feel that since so many of us have been diagnosed in the last three months that our family may be able to help future families and our future generations by joining the study.

Does anyone have any information on current or recent studies on this disease? I was recently diagnosed and would welcome any information. My T3 and T4 are normal but microsomal antibodies are 192(high). Thinning hair and weight gain are my concerns.
The same thing happened to me, Also have an allergy to Ibuprofen All of the Coxibs like celecoxib and even to ketarolac - as Dr_Veena said they do belong to NSAID group, however currently I'm very cautious in taking any drugs for headaches, different antipyretics like acetominophen and salicylates like aspirin.
What has helped me the most is Celebrex (celecoxib); It is an anti-inflammatory and unlike over the counter ibuprofen it is safer for your stomach. You want to target reducing inflammation, instead of killing the pain (such as with Narcotics). If you simply kill the pain, you will revert to habits like poor seating position or movement patterns that can exacerbate the injury -- deadly cycle. Ice does this, as well.
So went to hospital a week ago and did x-ray and blood test. Doctor has given me Celecoxib 200 mg capsules twice a day for 14 days and a gel to apply on my shoulder. Few times when I'm out I missed applying the gel but never missed the capsules (although once I had the capsules 4 hours late).
Today I received the x-ray image and report by email, and still waiting for the blood test report.
She gave me Ethical ciprobiotic Uro, and an antiinflamitory; Celeco, celecoxib 400mg. 2 to 3 hours later I am now peeing alot of blood. How concerned should I be, becuase I feel slightly wonky and a little scared. I cant get ahold of my friend to take me to the hospital and cant go out alone now becuase its late. Is this normal to pee blood? Is this prescription to high for me?
