Avatar f tn Liver Cancer Cells Coaxed To Commit Suicide By Common Anti-Inflammatory The anti-inflammatory drug celecoxib, known by the brand name Celebrex, triggers liver cancer cell death by reacting with a protein in a way that makes those cells commit suicide, according to a new study. Researchers also found that the combination of celecoxib with each of two chemotherapy drugs killed more liver cancer cells in culture, making those combinations more effective than either drug on its own.
Avatar m tn A man aged 81 was taking celecoxib 100mg daily following knee replacement surgery for osteoarthritis. Three weeks after commencing celecoxib he developed jellybean-shaped loss of vision centrally in each eye. This occurred every day after his morning dose and lasted for a few hours. The celecoxib was stopped and there was no recurrence of the visual disturbance.
Avatar m tn t seen anything positive about Celecoxib. My question is how long should I wait until I start taking this on a regular basis. Because, I have had many alcoholic drinks in my time, but if I stay sober should I be able to take this within 2 weeks? I'm only saying that because I'm assuming it might be a good window opportunity for my liver to start healing!
Avatar f tn Ah thanks for your comment,, I have tried celecoxib and arcoxia as my doctors advised but I already got immune with this meds as they can't controll the pain anymore..

Avatar f tn I just did one after I fell and found out that I should not even be on half the medications I am on due to my Celecoxib. So I ended up falling the other day and really messed up my right ankle, low back, neck and right wrist. I was out camping with the hubby and so I took a couple of Benedryll to help me sleep since I was in so much pain...Very Bad Move, it dropped my Blood Pressure way down and caused me to be sensitive to the sun and get sunburned. I was so dizzy.

Avatar m tn Celebrex or celecoxib, on the other hand, is used to treat pain or inflammation including headaches. Medication effect usually varies from one person to another. What is effective to one may not be as effective to another. It would be difficult to say which medicine has a better outlook. You can take the celebrex as an acute medication while the topamax may be your preventive medication. Discuss this with your doctor for proper management. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn Here is the manufacturer information for the company that makes injectable indomethacin. However keep in mindit is not a possible daily option in that this is via IV infusion and is administered by a trained health care professional over 20-35 minutes in hospital setting. Ovation Pharmaceuticals, Inc Four Parkway North, Suite 200 Deerfield , IL 60015 800-455-1141 I would probably suggest you reconsider using the rectal suppositories.
Avatar f tn The same thing happened to me, Also have an allergy to Ibuprofen All of the Coxibs like celecoxib and even to ketarolac - as Dr_Veena said they do belong to NSAID group, however currently I'm very cautious in taking any drugs for headaches, different antipyretics like acetominophen and salicylates like aspirin.
Avatar n tn What has helped me the most is Celebrex (celecoxib); It is an anti-inflammatory and unlike over the counter ibuprofen it is safer for your stomach. You want to target reducing inflammation, instead of killing the pain (such as with Narcotics). If you simply kill the pain, you will revert to habits like poor seating position or movement patterns that can exacerbate the injury -- deadly cycle. Ice does this, as well.
453731 tn?1225199508 You should not take acetaminophen (Tylenol), aspirin, or NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) unless your doctor has told you to. NSAIDs include celecoxib (Celebrex), diclofenac (Voltaren), ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), indomethacin, naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), piroxicam (Feldene), and others. These medicines may affect blood clotting and could cause serious bleeding in your stomach or intestines. Avoid sudden changes in your diet. Vitamin K decreases the effects of Coumadin.
Avatar m tn So went to hospital a week ago and did x-ray and blood test. Doctor has given me Celecoxib 200 mg capsules twice a day for 14 days and a gel to apply on my shoulder. Few times when I'm out I missed applying the gel but never missed the capsules (although once I had the capsules 4 hours late). Today I received the x-ray image and report by email, and still waiting for the blood test report.
Avatar f tn She gave me Ethical ciprobiotic Uro, and an antiinflamitory; Celeco, celecoxib 400mg. 2 to 3 hours later I am now peeing alot of blood. How concerned should I be, becuase I feel slightly wonky and a little scared. I cant get ahold of my friend to take me to the hospital and cant go out alone now becuase its late. Is this normal to pee blood? Is this prescription to high for me?
Avatar m tn Celebrex (there is no generic but the active ingredient is celecoxib) is an expensive NSAID (non-steroidal-anti-inflammatory-drug), and there are no alternatives exactly like it, but you may be able to try something similar. Most NSAIDS follow two pathways in the body, COX-1 inhibition and COX-2 inhibition. The second one is desirable, as it decreases the inflammation. The first pathway can slowly destroy the stomach lining and over time, cause ulcers or GI bleeding.
Avatar f tn Very interesting information Dr. Rajput. However, in the US, all opiods have another type of pain med with them. For example Lortabs are hydrocodone and acetaminophen. Tylenol-3 - acetamenophin and codeine. I didn't know that opiods cause the release of histamine. No wonder I itch like crazy when I take them. I just knew that the itching was a side effect. I wonder if you could use an opiod cough med for pain? I know a lot of people use the pain meds for cough.
Avatar n tn Furthermore, HCV-expressing cells treated with the inhibitors of Cox-2 celecoxib (Celebrex) and NS-398 showed significant reduction in PGE(2) levels. We also observed the enhanced phosphorylation of Akt and its downstream substrates glycogen synthase kinase-3beta and proapoptotic Bad in the HCV replicon-expressing cells. These phosphorylation events were sensitive to inhibitors of Cox-2 (celecoxib and NS-398) and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (LY294002).
Avatar f tn Chances of allergy are high in your case as you got the symptoms after taking the drug and you were almost symptom free when you did not. Instead you can take COX-2 inhibitors like rofecoxib and celecoxib or nimesulide. Try local analgesic creams and sprays and hot water bags. These will be equally effective in relieving pain without loading your system with drugs. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
982333 tn?1305788889 Hello Meubanks, I am sorry to hear about your painful joint symptoms. You are so young to be experiencing this horrid joint pain. Your physician is right and wrong. Opiates do not help with the inflammation in joints but they do ease pain. Prednisone should have provided some relief of the joint pain if it was related to an inflammatory process. It works well on inflammation. Although as you said it does raise havoc with your other systems, especially the GI tract.
Avatar f tn I would wait to hear back from his hepatologist. Here is some information I found on the medication. http://www.rxlist.com/voltaren-xr-drug.htm Here are some of the risks: Gastrointestinal Risk •NSAIDs cause an increased risk of serious gastrointestinal adverse events including inflammation, bleeding, ulceration, and perforation of the stomach or intestines, which can be fatal. These events can occur at any time during use and without warning symptoms.
618585 tn?1236714644 This kind of pain may be controlled by taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) like celecoxib. However, other possible causes of the low back pain should be investigated. Blood levels of uric acid can increase as the tumor disintegrates because of the chemotherapy. This can also cause joint and low back pains. Tumor spread to the spine and hip bones is another possible cause of severe low back pain.
