Avatar f tn Liver Cancer Cells Coaxed To Commit Suicide By Common Anti-Inflammatory The anti-inflammatory drug celecoxib, known by the brand name Celebrex, triggers liver cancer cell death by reacting with a protein in a way that makes those cells commit suicide, according to a new study. Researchers also found that the combination of celecoxib with each of two chemotherapy drugs killed more liver cancer cells in culture, making those combinations more effective than either drug on its own.
Avatar n tn According to this study https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8883546 RPE hypetrophy occurs in about 5.5 % of normal individuals and FAP occurs in about 1 in 7000 to 22000 people. Thus REPHypertrophy has no value in predicting FAP in people with no family hx of FAP and no other findings of FAP. So don't obsess on this and quit worrying if no family hx and no other findings of FAP.

Avatar f tn Is there anyone out there with Familial Polyposis (FAP)? I was diagnosed when I was 19 (55 now), had total colonectomy and six years ago Whipple surgery. Would love to chat with someone who understands this disease.
Avatar m tn Colon cancer gets a lot of research, FAP not as much. I think making people aware of FAP is very worthwhile. I've lost 5 family members to it that include a son at 31 and a grandson at 18. Good luck in your chosen profession!
Avatar m tn Hi......having this many polyps at such a young age is typically a symptom of FAP (Familial Adenomatous Polyposis) or AFAP. This is normally an hereditary colon disease but it can happen spontaneously. FAP normally shows up with many polyps in the colon by puberty but it can be up until 40. AFAP is the "attenuated" form where you develop fewer polyps at a slower rate.

3171100 tn?1344114475 Desmoids are very rare with this disease but anyone who has FAP or AFAP should be checked after removal of the colon for the growth of one because trauma such as surgery to remove the colon is what triggers them. There is an FAP Group on Facebook that offers a wealth of knowledge on FAP, and you will meet the nicest people who all share their stories and it's very comforting, educational and supportive....I think you would really benefit from it.
Avatar m tn When colon cancer presents in someone under fifty there is real concern that it is due to an hereditary colon disease in the family such as FAP. If someone develops cancer as young as 34 this needs to be ruled out immediately because the children have a 50% chance of inheriting the mutated APC gene. A Gastroenterologist will ask someone if they have had family members diagnosed or die from colon cancer in their 30's or 40's, as this will make them suspect FAP.
1858622 tn?1319813203 there is a lot of useful information from a group on Facebook. Just search FAP Group and you will find it. They are currently talking about things that help prevent polyps right now. I've heard an aspirin study was done and they concluded that aspirin does help, but in what dosage I don't know. Having one polyp at 52 isn't bad, and so long as you continue to get your routine colonoscopies, you will be fine but I do understand wanting to prevent them all together.
Avatar n tn Were you diagnosed with FAP? (Familial Adenomatous Polyposis) You need to find out if this is the cause of you having so many polyps. It usually is at your age. This is in our family, and my sons had total colectomies at 12 & 16. My grandson at 10. This is an hereditary disease, if this is what you have, you probably have a parent with it. Also, your children will have a 50% chance of inhereting the disease. I lost my oldest son and grandson, but my youngest son is almost 38.
Avatar f tn In December 2009 I was diagnosed with FAP , I had my colon removed Feb 2010. I was 25yrs old then with thousands of polyps. I wouldn’t have even known I had this genetic disease if it wasn’t for my mom being so persistent with my primary doctor on how fatigue I am and the occasional bloody stool. She didn’t know it at the time but she saved my life. Anyway, then a few months ago I started having right side pain under my last rib and nausea.
Avatar f tn for the last 10 yrs my doctors have kept me cancer free, recently i saw a genetic doctor and she says i have been very lucky so far, i have attenuated fap and it is recommended that i have surgery to remove my entire colon.
Avatar f tn Hi Loretta. We have FAP in our family and from what I know adenoma polyps and the sessile serrated are only different in shape, both are pre-malignant and need to be removed. In our family thousands of polyps carpet the colon and removal of the colon is their only hope. I lost a husband, brother-in-law, son and grandson to FAP, I would much rather have been dealing with a sessile. So long as you remain vigilant with your scopes, you will be fine. Take care.
Avatar n tn Also, supernumerary teeth can be a symtom of FAP, not everyone with supernumerary teeth have FAP, and not everyone with FAP has supernumerary teeth. We were told my son had supernumerary teeth, and at age 12 was diagnosed with FAP. This is one of the earliest symptoms one can have, and is well worth looking into.
Avatar m tn Im 19 and i have not ejaculated in over 160 days. I am doing the no fap challenge. But it is extremely hard on me, and i have had days that i had erections and i got overly stimulated, this caused me blue balls. One day after waking up from a sex dream and being overly stimulated, i was really sore from my balls. The next day, my testicles felt really hard and tough. That subsided after a hot bath, but after a week. My right one sends out a little discomfort. What should i do?
Avatar f tn Dear Dr.Thomas D Schiano! I'm need your help in making an important decision. I have hepatitis B with delta-agent, cirrhosis class A. In January 2013 a 0.8cm tumor was found in the liver, AFP was 450. In May 2013 the tumor was 1.5 cm large, AFP 980, and HCC diagnosis was confirmed. On August 23rd I received RFA treatment, but AFP did not fall much, it is at 880 now. I was placed on the waiting list for liver transplantation, but the wait time is long, many months.
Avatar f tn When your aunt was diagnosed did they mention FAP to her? Familial Adenomatous Polyposis is an hereditary colon disease. It usually presents with polyps in the colon starting at the age of 10, and depending on the type of FAP the polyps do turn cancerous either in the 30's or late 40's. It's extremely rare to develop colon cancer at your age even when this disease is in the family.
Avatar m tn I have recently been diagnosed with FAP (Familial adenomatous polyposis) and I am soon to have my colon/large intestine out, I am 16 and will have the surgery done in march. It will be done via "keyhole" surgery. If anyone has had this done could you give me some info on what to expect based on your experences. For example: how long did it take you to be able to attend work or school? how long before you were on your regular diet, and finally what risks did you run across?
Avatar f tn Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge or experience with FAP(Familial Adenomatous Polyposis) and having children. My boyfriend was recently diagnosed with this genetic disorder, which causes colon cancer, and he has a 50% chance of passing it on to children. There is the option of IVF, but being that there's nothing wrong with me I'd prefer not to have to take all those drugs. I was wondering if anyone knew of other options, maybe some sort of sperm screening?
Avatar m tn A man aged 81 was taking celecoxib 100mg daily following knee replacement surgery for osteoarthritis. Three weeks after commencing celecoxib he developed jellybean-shaped loss of vision centrally in each eye. This occurred every day after his morning dose and lasted for a few hours. The celecoxib was stopped and there was no recurrence of the visual disturbance.
Avatar f tn was diagnosed with FAP in May 2006, I underwent a complete hysterectomy and colectomy in June 2006. At that time there were abnormal cells forming but no actual malignacies. In June of 2007 I have a giant agressive Desmoid (paraspinal tumor) that was growing up against my spine removed (it was huge) again no "malignancies" but there were cells outside the margin leaving the real possibilty that it would return.
Avatar m tn t seen anything positive about Celecoxib. My question is how long should I wait until I start taking this on a regular basis. Because, I have had many alcoholic drinks in my time, but if I stay sober should I be able to take this within 2 weeks? I'm only saying that because I'm assuming it might be a good window opportunity for my liver to start healing!
225036 tn?1294509400 A study in England including 55 patients with a genetic mutation that triggers development of precancerous polyps (a condition known as familial adenomatous polyposis or FAP) found that six months of treatment with a purified form of EPA reduced the number of polyps that developed by 12 percent; among participants who received a placebo instead, the number of polyps increased by 10 percent. In addition, the size of the polyps declined by more than 12.
Avatar f tn Ah thanks for your comment,, I have tried celecoxib and arcoxia as my doctors advised but I already got immune with this meds as they can't controll the pain anymore..
