Hi. I have a toddler(will be 2 in July) who seems to have throat infections very often. It started when he was about 7 monthsold or so. The symptoms would start when he didnt want to eat or drink very much. Then he will run a fever. Sometimes the fever will be low grade and sometimes it will be quite high 103.5 degrees. Sometimes he will have a runny nose as well but most of the time it is just the fever and lack of appetite that is present.

A few days ago I woke up with pain on my lower eyelid, on the outer corner. It lasted all day, and then when I went to sleep, I woke up with no pain. That day I was fine. So I went to sleep and yesterday woke up with the inner corner in pain and swollen. It hurt all day and today I woke up with it even more swollen and red and painful.

I know strep and allergies are definitely two different things, but it could be that if he has an allergy issue, his nasal passages and throat get irritated from that and then an infection occurs - the strep throat. This past winter I, myself, got strep throat twice and pneumonia once - the first bout of strep actually landed me in the hospital for 4 days.

2 doctors told me I had strep.. second one tested for strep came back positive.. could 2 doctors be wrong about this? Thanks !!

As far as the concerns go regarding strep throat....Consider your drinking water a source. We were on well water and were informed that the constant strep throat infection my kids had could be coming from the water they were drinking. Strep can be passed through water. Sometimes you can also get swollen lymph nodes under the neck. You don't always get pus (white spots on the tonsils or back of the throat) but you usually do. Strep throat can become serious so they do have to watch you. Sometimes it does go away on its own. I would definitely get the swab done.

If do you it could be a strep throat. IF no fever and no pus but just a red throat it maybe a virus. It should pass in a couple of days if it is a virus. If it dosen't get better then see a doctor and be honest about the oral sex. They can easily do a throat swab for GC and also a culture for strep throat or a rapid strep test and culture. I have a mildly sore throat that is presenting itself like strep with white pus on my tonsils (minus the severe pain, fever and other symptoms). Went to the doctor today and they tested for strep, mono and the flu. All negative. I tested for HIV today and also negative (rapid test, 5 weeks since last exposure) Wondering what else it could be? A throat infection is not caused by hypothyroidism. Throat infections can be streptococcal or a viral infection. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain.

SHe has white spots the size of an eraser on each side of her throat and her throat is almost swollen closed. I took her back today and they gave her clindomycein and prednisone which she had last year for mono. He honestly said "I don't know what to do with you?" and walked out? SHe can't eat and she can't swallow and white spots are getting worse. WHat do I do next? Obviously not go back to the same pediatrician.

If you tested positive for strep throat your doc should put you on antibiotics asap. They should also be able to tell you if you can take anything over the counter to help with the soreness. Feel better!
