415684 tn?1257329318 OK ... just hear me out. I know of someone who swears that raw peanuts with the red skin will help raise platelets. AND potatoes will help raise white cells. Has anyone heard of this?
7540649 tn?1395719596 A lot of the nutrients are in the skin, so try eating more baked potatoes (with skin) so you can keep the nutrients. Just make sure you scrub the skin very, VERY well before hand. If your worried about eating healthy (which we all are) then try to avoid fried potatoes (french fries) and eat more homemade baked/mashed potatoes. Hope this helps!
20620809 tn?1504362969 The other type of carbohydrates is known as complex carbohydrates - these are foods that take longer to break down in our body so don't turn to sugar right away. These include most vegetables, fish, seeds, nuts, whole grains, etc. You don't have to "love" fish to follow the Mediterranean diet. It does allow lean meat, chicken, etc in limited quantities.
Avatar m tn What does make a point tho is that complex carbohydrates take longer time to break down in your body to that means the blood glucose remains more stable. Complex carbohydrates are startchy food like patatoes, rice and pastas. Simple carbohydrates are what you should avoid and those are desserts and candies.

Avatar m tn Alcohol does have carbohydrates in it, but different types of beverages have different amounts of carbs. It has a lot to do with what is used to make the alcohol and how it is made. (ie: many beers are made from wheat, barley, corn, or rice...typically high in carbohydrates. Wine is often made from grapes or other fruits that are then fermented to produce alcohol) In short- alcohol does have carbohydrates, but the amount of carbs varies a good bit between various types of drinks.

Avatar m tn A1c is the amount of glucose that is stuck to red blood cells. the higher the A1c the higher the BG. since red blood cells live about 90 days the A1c is an average of your BG for 90 days. the symptoms you mention I have never heard of for diabetes. despite what the "media" say weight has little to do with causing diabetes.
Avatar m tn You should be staying away from sugar, white bread, potatoes and etc. Your diet should be high in fibre and breads should be whole wheat. I am diabetic and have cut out so much carbohydrates that many times I am hypoglycemic. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Probably macaroni and cheese or a grilled cheese sandwich. My diet is mainly carbohydrates (convenient now with the nausea and all), so most of the stuff I eat is pretty easy on the belly. The rest is disastrous lol like Chinese food and Pizza Hut.
Avatar n tn Try not to eat large meals laden with carbohydrates and starches [potatoes, white rice, pasta, white breads] or your glucose [blood sugar] levels will elevate above normal. Eat to you feel full, not until you feel stuffed. I believe you already know part of your problem is indulging in sugary sweets. Those "tingling in my arms at night and numbness of my fingers" is your body telling you something neurological is malfunctioning.
Avatar m tn I'm curious when you say Mediterranean diet but say no wine? That kind of rules out that diet, which is partly based on the antioxidants contained in red wine. It's also very high in olive oil and fatty fish, which should give you pretty good HDL levels -- in fact, looking at the numbers, your HDL isn't all that low, at least from what you report -- a couple fish oil or flax seed capsules a day should elevate it.
Avatar f tn an example, add grated cooked eggs to mashed potatoes, ground chicken to soups and gravies, cheese in casseroles, eggs, and soups, and nonfat dried milk in soups, shakes, milk, and mashed potatoes. If you're full too fast, try having more high-calorie foods or slices of foods as opposed to consuming the whole thing (raisins versus grapes, granola and Grape Nuts versus corn flakes, mango slices versus the whole mango). Limit drinking beverages to a half-hour before and after a meal.
Avatar f tn Look on pinterest for crock pot recipes. And choose some you like! They're super easy to do, you just throw everything in in the morning and turn it on. It's ready for when he gets home. :) I put pork roast with steak seasoning all over the top and put the crock pot on low. Then 2 hours or so before we're ready to eat, I turn it up on high and throw in small red potatoes!
Avatar f tn She is considered normal for her age. Carbohydrates are found in dairy foods (milk, yogurt, and cheese), fruits, and vegetables. There is sugar (lactose) in dairy foods along with protein which our bodies breaks down to glucose to use. I realize it is not the ‘traditional’ food sources of carbohydrates, however, if she is consuming these foods daily, then she is getting carbohydrates. If you are very concerned, suggest increase the intake of the above foods.

Avatar m tn I saw from an earlier post that a person had their dog diagnosed with histocytic sarcoma and Aleda Cheng referred to an anti cancer diet (high in protein, low in carb/starch). My dog had a spot on his back which was removed and the analysis determined it was histocytic sarcoma. We are in the process of determining by xrays/ultrasound if it has spread, but I would be interested in knowing what the anti cancer diet recommendation is.
Avatar f tn Steak, red skin mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob!

Avatar f tn Yech!! I'd rather die than swallow a glass of milk ..... and I'm not lactose intolerant; just horrible stuff! I make an exception to cheese though. Over the years,, I've donated literally gallons of my rather uncommon A- blood type to help those who need it, and with the secondary benefit of getting rid of excess iron. Females shed iron each month, while levels can continue to build in males. Donating blood was a good way to keep iron levels in check.
