Byetta insulin pen

Common Questions and Answers about Byetta insulin pen

byetta

Avatar m tn You may wish to discuss premixed insulin, which is a combination of specific proportions of intermediate/long-acting and short acting insulin in one bottle or insulin pen. Btw, Lantus [not to be confused with Apridra] is a long acting insulin not short [fast].
Avatar f tn isophane insulin starts working after one to two hours and lasts 10 to 14 hours. Examples are Humulin I and Insulatard. * Long-acting insulin: these start working after one to two hours and last for up to 24 hours. Examples are insulin zinc suspension, protamine zinc insulin, and the insulin analogues insulin glargine and insulin detemir. The latter two insulins are now the most widely used long-acting insulins.
Avatar n tn I used Byetta for a long time and I am not an expert or medical person. You are best to get the information from your doctor. Before I started using Byetta, I had to take classes from a nurse on how I had to inject Byetta into my stomach. It was prescribed by my Doctor. Byetta has side effects reported by some people but I had no problems with it other than the expense. It does give you a feeling of fullness and it has a nickname (Spit).
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with type II diabetes 3 months ago. I was started on byetta at the routine initial dose which was increased 2 months ago. I am only taking byetta, and no oral hypoglycemics (metformin, etc.)I have lost 29 lbs in that length of time, primarily due to decreased appetite, nausea, and vomiting. I understand that this is in all likelyhood due to delayed gastric emptying. My question: Is this ever going to get better???
Avatar f tn I have been sick with a cold/flu for three weeks. Two days ago, I developed diarrhea. It seemed to occur immediately after eating. Today, the diarrhea was bright yellow and I passed something the size of a small grape (also yellow in color). I'm currently on synthroid (for hypothyroidism), effexor (for depression), and metformin & byetta (for insulin resistence). I've been on the Byetta for nearly a month, but have not suffered any side effects to date.
Avatar n tn Are you a type 1 or type 2 diabetic? He is type 2 he started taking a new medication called byetta. You inject in your arm before you meals. My husband has lost 40 lbs in the last 6 months. He just can't eat like he used to since he has been on the byetta. It curves your appetite and apparently helps your body produce it's own insulin. It might be something you want to run by your endo doctor. Let me know.

Avatar f tn Inside the pen, where the insulin is contained I found a silver object. I did not inject myself, but would like to know who I could talk to about product liability and quality control. I still have the container even though the pharmacy company wants it back.
1273125 tn?1365077526 t have a problem with needles either, but I gotta tell ya, the shots get old after a while. If you really need the Insulin, talk to your Dr bout which Pen would work best for you - it's much much easier than regular needles!! Good Luck....
Avatar f tn I have a NovoLog FlexPen with 100 units which stopped working after about 1/3 of the insulin had been dispensed. It simply stopped releasing the insulin left in the pen. I pay a lot for these pens since my insurance only covers about half the cost. I took it to my pharmacy who said I must get it from Novo Nordisk, Inc. How can I get a replacement?
Avatar n tn Depends on how you use your insullin. My doctor gave me an insulin to carbohydrate ratio to use. I use 1 unit of insulin to every 12 grams of carbs I eat. The less carbs I eat, the less insulin I use. I have a very physical job for four hours a day and I don't even need my Humalog when I eat lunch. My pen generally lasts me the whole month. My Humalog is only good for 28 - 30 days.
Avatar m tn Usually there are very tiny bubbles holding onto the wall of the insulin pen. If they are at top of the pen I do not worry. But some times they are at the bottom and no matter how much i tap the pen, these tiny bubbles wont budge from their place. Is there way to avoid the formation of these tiny bubbles?
1236243 tn?1277680851 Victoza isn't insulin. It's a new injectable medication for Type 2's and sorry, camaro, but I don't know anything else about it! Btw I use insulin pens and find them very convenient. I have no problem adjusting dosage for my I:C ratio, though I can't do less than one unit. Just a personal preference I guess.
Avatar m tn 6 , howeever my fasting insuling is bit elevated but post prandial insulin level is skyrocket , it is 190 while top range for post prandial in the test is 20 . I feel extreme thirsty and sweat very much and urinate 4 times in the night . I read online that high insluin level in blood can cause fatigue and brainfogg just as i experience now , I had done all tests thats related to fatigue :- sleep analysis feritin , vitamin d , magnesium , electrolytes , cortisol etc .
Avatar n tn I plan on asking my endo for another pen so I can keep some insulin in the work fridge and the pen in my desk. thanks for everyone's concern.
Avatar n tn I was on a different type of insulin 30/70 and it just did not work for me and that was a pen now I am back on the needle and I do not like it and never will I take the Lantus with the needle.
Avatar n tn I was told by my diabetes health staff that the way to verify that the insulin has injected properly is to look for a small drop of insulin on the tip of the needle after injecting. Now that I've done some research online, I see that many people recommend injecting a few units into the air first to make sure all is working fine before actually performing the real injection on myself. So, I'll definitely begin doing that as it seems like the best solution.
Avatar n tn I am having issues with the Novolog pen too...the disc in the pen that acts as a lever pushing insulin out slips. I have had this in more than four pens now. Sometimes, the pen does not dispense at all, seems to function fine till I have to flush out 6-10 units of insulin at a time to make it work again. I have had severe highs with this - when I thought I injected myself with insulin and the pen did not function like it should.
Avatar m tn I am diabetic using an insulin pen (not a syringe). A few hours after I started the treatment, I gave myself an insulin injection. I was traveling and didn't have a new needle, so I used the one I used before and left on the pen. It was more than 4 hours that i used this old needle on my insulin pen. Sorry, that was stupid. Say I was actually infected, would that mean I am having a 2nd exposure by my own possible infected blood, thus ruining my PEP?
Avatar n tn The reading is absolutely positively meaningless. You may or may not have an insulin utilization syndrome. A glucose reading has to be in context. Precisely what did you eat, how long ago did you eat it, and you need a number of readings. The only way to tell for sure where you are in terms of diabetes at is to go to a reputable physician and undergo either a glucose fasting test or undergo an insulin clamp protocol.
Avatar n tn I dont think they mean insulin stored as insulin your using. once I need a new insulin pen I take it out of the fridge and let it worm up before I use it. I do store my unused insulin pens in the fridge.
Avatar m tn Just stop taking the pills on day and the next day start injection with a pen? And does one injection from a pen = 500 mg? or how does one calculate the dosage? I am a newbie at this and a bit anxjous about switching over.
Avatar m tn Studies have shown that both blood and skin cells can reflux back into cartridges as insulin is administered. Using the same insulin pen for more than 1 patient is equivalent to using the same syringe to administer medication to multiple patients. Providers need to understand that these practices can expose their patients to bloodborne pathogens, including hepatitis viruses and HIV. Changing the needle on the insulin pen or syringe does not make it safe for reuse on additional patients.
Avatar f tn A hospital spokeswoman says the needles were always changed, but an insulin pen may have been used on more than one patient. The VA is offering free blood tests to rule out any infections.
Avatar n tn About a month ago I started taking 36 Units of Lantus at bedtime using the Opticlik Cartridge Delivery System and during the day I use Novolog Insulin throaway Flex Pen and that is 12 units before I eat anything. I have had so much problem with that Lantus Opticlik that my Health Providers will switch me to the Levimere Flex Pen after I use up all the lantus cartridges. Is lantus a better insulin or is Levimere just as good as Lantus using it as a basal 24 Hour insulin???.
Avatar m tn I would really like some help with this. Byetta has been wonderful so far, and I've lost 30 lbs, yay! But now I've developed insomnia - terrible, only 3 hours of sleep a night insomnia, which has never bothered me before. If I skip my second Byetta shot for the day, I can usually get a full night's sleep. So that's certainly a clue that I may not be able to take the full two doses of Byetta a day.
